A Free Cutting Steel And A Method Of Manufacturing Thereof
Abstract: Present disclosure discloses a free cutting steel and a method for manufacturing the free cutting steel. The free cutting steel includes an alloy composition in weight (wt%) percentage of carbon (C) at about 0.07% to about 0.1%, manganese (Mn) at about 0.8% to about 1.1%, silicon (Si) upto 0.05%, phosphorus (P) up-to 0.09%, sulphur (S) at about 0.27% to about 0.30%, tin (Sn) at about 0.04% to about 0.07%, nitrogen (N) up-to 60ppm, oxygen (O) up-to 0.012%, and the balance being Iron (Fe) optionally along with incidental elements. Further, the free cutting steel with said alloy composition comprises ferrite microstructure (11) and pearlite microstructure (12). The addition of tin aids in improving the machinability of the free cutting steel without being an environmental hazard.
