Specification

Embodiment of the present invention relates to automotive lighting systems and more particularly to a front lamp assembly position for a vehicle.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Lighting systems are one of the most important aspects in automobiles, be it two-wheelers, four wheelers etc. They are responsible for ensuring proper illumination of the way ahead is provided for the vehicle’s driver to see. Headlamps and other lamps are provided to achieve the desired illumination for the driver and at the same time, it is made sure that other drivers of the oncoming vehicles are not affected. Also, off-late the automotive lights such as headlamps, indicators and other auxiliary lights are not just meant for achieving the desired illumination but also contribute to the aesthetics of the vehicle. Headlamps and front lamps add to the looks of the vehicle and make them appealing to the observers. Given the present scenario, looks and aesthetics often become one of the deciding factors for people to buy a vehicle.
So, engineers and designers all over the world keep trying to innovate and develop new designs for headlamps and other lamps to fulfil the lighting requirements as well as add to the beauty of the vehicle. But in some of the presently available solutions, it is evident that headlamps are responsible to fulfil most of the desired illumination needs. So, headlamps are mostly operated on high beams which are often blamed for blinding the oncoming drivers. Further, in some cases, operating the headlamps on low beam are not able to provide sufficient illumination. Additionally, all the auxiliary front lamps are more so used for aesthetics purpose as the illumination area/zone is very limited on front lamps. Auxiliary front lamps are most commonly used as indicators and only for providing good looks to 5 the vehicle. So, there are no such lamps in the prior that make for the lack of illumination and complement the headlamp as well as add to the beautiful aesthetics of the vehicle.
Therefore, there is a need in the art for a front lamp assembly for a vehicle that does not suffer from above-mentioned deficiencies and provide an effective and viable solution.

The front lamp assembly (100) may comprise a housing (102), an illumination panel (106), a PCB (120) connected with the illumination panel (106), an LED (108) connected with the PCB (120) and a glass cover over the back panel and the illumination panel (106).
In accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, the housing (102) configured to house a back panel. The back panel has a light section (104) that comprises a reflector zone (110). The reflector zone (110) is configured to receive a light source (112). The light source (112) may be, but not limited to, incandescent light bulb or LEDs and may be used for purpose of head lamps or indicators. Additionally, the back panel may have a receptacle for receiving the illumination panel (106).
Figure 2 illustrates the illumination panel (106) of the assembly (100), in accordance with an embodiment of the present. The illumination panel (106) may be connected with the back panel using connection means such as screws, bolts, rivets etc. Further, as shown in figure 2, the illumination panel (106) comprises a flat plate (114) that has a plurality of grooves (116). The plurality of grooves (116) may be, but not limited to, straight or curved continuous lines, that may or may not be parallel to each other. Also included in the illumination panel (106) is a light guide channel (118). The light guide channel (118) may be provided at one edge of the flat plate (114). The light guide channel (118) is connected with each of the plurality of grooves (116).
Figure 3a illustrates the light guide channel (118) of the assembly (100), in accordance with an embodiment of the present. As shown in figure 3, the light guide channel (118) is a hollow tube having a reflective internal surface and special optics designed in the light guide channel (118). The optics include a plurality of cuts and bends (122) designed at predetermined angles. The predetermined angles may be in the range of 35°-45° to make the light travelling inside the light guide channel (118) move in a desired direction to illuminate maximum area. However, in a preferred embodiment, the predetermined angle may be 39°.
Further, figure 3b illustrates another embodiment of the light guide channel (118) of the assembly (100), in accordance with an embodiment of the present. As shown in figure 3b, the light guide channel (118) may be an optical cable (1181). The optical cable (1181) may be used to bend the incident light using total internal reflection and to easily divert the light towards the cuts and bends (122) in order to move the light into the plurality of grooves (116).
The invention works in following manner:
In accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, the PCB (120) is connected with the illumination panel (106) proximal to the light section (104) and the light guide channel (118). Additionally, the LED (108) is provided at one end of the light guide channel (118) configured to illuminate the light guide channel (118) when actuated by the PCB (120). The PCB (120) may in turn be connected and actuated with the controls/switches provided to the driver. In one embodiment, the PCB (120) is also connected to the light source (112) of the light section (104) in the back panel.
So, the PCB (120) may also be used to illuminate the light source (112) (such as headlamp, indicator etc.) as and when required by the user using the controls/switches. In one embodiment, the user may have two different controls/switches to actuate the light source (112) of the light section (104) and the LED (108) proximal to the illumination panel (106) of the front lamp assembly (100). In another embodiment of the present invention, the user may have a common control/switch to actuate the light source (112) of the light section (104) and the LED (108) proximal to the illumination panel (106) of the front lamp assembly (100).
In accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, when a user actuates the front lamp assembly (100) using the controls/switches, the PCB (120) turns on the LED (108) provided at the end of the light guide channel (118) of the illumination panel (106). Figure 4 illustrates working of the light guide channel (118), in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention. As shown in figure 4, the light from the LED (108) starts travelling inside the light guide channel (118) going through a total internal reflection within. Then, with the help of cuts and bends (122) designed in the light guide channel (118), the light is directed towards the flat plate (114). The reflected light leaks through the cuts and bends at a preferred angle of 39° into the plurality of grooves (116) and then onto the flat plate (114) to illuminate the whole illumination panel (106). Additionally, the light travelling along the plurality of grooves (116) and through side optics of flat plate (114), providing a light curtain effect.
The present invention provides a number of advantages. Firstly, the front lamp assembly (100) of the present invention solves the problem of the prior art by increasing the illumination area (thereby the increase in illumination) as well as beautiful aesthetics similar to a light curtain effect which hasn’t been seen in automobiles. The present invention may be used in combination with headlamps or also in combination with indicator lights or other auxiliary lights (in pairs) on two-wheelers, four-wheelers etc. So, the present invention provides a cost-effective solution to the problems of prior art.
Various modifications to these embodiments are apparent to those skilled in the art from the description and the accompanying drawings. The principles associated with the various embodiments described herein may be applied to other embodiments. Therefore, the description is not intended to be limited to the embodiments shown along with the accompanying drawings but is to be provided broadest scope consistent with the principles and the novel and inventive features disclosed or suggested herein. Accordingly, the invention is anticipated to hold on to all other such alternatives, modifications, and variations that fall within the scope of the present invention and the appended claims.
