A variable flame length gaseous fuel burner comprising means for generating flame of desired length/shape which can be adjusted by adjusting the flow of a primary air-I steam and a primary air-II stream in relation to the burner gas. In particular, the burner provides for supply of the gap (GP) sandwiched between said outer pipeline (OP) for supply of primary air stream-I and inner pipeline (IAP) for supply of primary air stream-II and varying the flame length by varying the relative proportion of primary air-I and primary air-II. The longest flame-length is obtained when total combustion air is supplied by primary air-I only and no primary air-II is supplied. While the shortest flame length is obtained when no primary air-I is passed through the burner and the complete combustion air is supplied by the primary air-II. The gas burner is thus adapted to provide varying flame length, shape and brightness. The burner can generate stable and perfectly anchored flame in cold furnace condition and also with low calorific value gases.
