THE FOLLOWING SPECIFICATION DESCRIBES THE INVENTION AND THE MANNER OF PERFORMING THE SAME
CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS AND PRIORITY: The present application does not claim priority from any patent application.
FIELD OF THE INVENTION:
The present disclosure in general relates to a handle fixed to a lid of a pressure cooker. More particularly, the present invention relates to an improved pressure cooker handle with a barrier to direct steam-flow for improved safety.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION:
Pressure cookers have been used for many years, they accelerate cooking time, reduce the use of cooking fuel and increase the overall efficiency of cooking by using pressure to cook food articles.
A common type of pressure cooker employs a lid having a plurality of circumferentially spaced flanges, which interlock, with similar flanges on the cooker body or pan when the lid is rotated relative to the pan. A lid with this type of locking mechanism is known as a “bayonet” lid. Bayonet style pressure cookers often operate at pressures of 5-15 psig. These cookers do an excellent job of cooking. However, there is always danger related to steam burns caused to the user by steam which is exiting a pressure vent fixed to the lid of the pressure cooker in the prior art. The steam exiting the pressure vent causes burns related injuries such as skin cladding, and hence the pressure cookers in the prior art are unsafe for use.
Numerous pressure cookers have been the subject of patents, some examples being U.S. Pat. Nos. 4534485, 8393262; Chinese Pat. No. 105559569; Germany Pat. No. 19822905, Japanese pat. No. 0523250; 0724625. These systems add significantly to the safety of the cookers, but they also add to the expense and complexity of the devices, further they fail to disclose simple and cost effective mechanism to safeguard the user from the steam being released from the pressure vent.
In view of the above, there is a need for a pressure cooker which shall overcome at least one of the problems stated above.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION:
Before the present disclosure for an improved pressure cooker handle is described, it is to be understood that this application is not limited to the particular information or technology described, as there can be multiple possible embodiments which are not expressly illustrated in the present disclosure. It is also to be understood that the terminology used in the description is for the purpose of describing the particular versions or embodiments only and is not intended to limit the scope of the present application. This description is not intended to identify essential features of the claimed subject matter nor is it intended for use in determining or limiting the scope of the claimed subject matter.
Some embodiments of the present disclosure, illustrating all its features, will now be discussed in detail. It must also be noted that as used herein and in the appended claims, the singular forms "a", "an" and "the" include plural references unless the context clearly dictates otherwise. Various modifications to the embodiment will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art and the generic principles herein may be applied to other embodiments.
Unless otherwise indicated, this disclosure uses the following definitions:
“User Contact” refers to the area around a pressure cooker wherein the user is most likely to come in contact with the steam released from the pressure cooker, while working with/near a pressure cooker. Typically, it is in the direction of the handle
“Outer lid pressure cooker” refers to a pressure cooker having a type of locking mechanism is known as a “bayonet” lid type locking mechanism.
“Steam” refers to the high pressure and high temperature steam generated and released by a pressure cooker by means of a vent located on such pressure cooker.
“Vent” refers to a steam release mechanism often associated with a “weight” on one end of a “vent pipe” provided typically on the lid of a pressure cooker and enables the steam to escape from the body of the pressure cooker, outside.
Various embodiments of the present invention relate to an improved pressure cooker handle.
An embodiment of the present invention provides a handle 1 fixed to a lid of a pressure cooker, wherein the handle 3 comprising:
a. a base 2 fixed to the lid 5; and
b. a barrier surface 3 between a base edge 2A and a top edge 4 deflects steam escaping from a pressure vent 8 in an opposite direction of the handle 1.
An embodiment of the present invention provides a handle having a barrier surface 3 which is straight or has a curvature wherein, the curvature has a radius between 20mm to 25mm.
This curvature ensures that all the steam which is blocked by the barrier surface is captured within the two ends of the barrier if not deflected in a direction opposite to the user.
An embodiment of the present invention provides an improved pressure cooker handle having a barrier surface 3 at an angle between 40 to 60 with the base.
Such that the top end of the barrier surface is mildly leaning towards the vent of the pressure cooker.
This angling (between 40 to 60) and slant dimension of the barrier surface 3 ensures that all the steam radiating vertically, and within the range of user contact, is blocked and directed away from the user by the barrier surface at the same time allowing for the vent to release steam without blocking its passage.
An embodiment of the present invention provides a handle which is fixed to a lid of a pressure cooker, wherein the pressure vent 8 is at a distance of, between 15mm to 18mm from the barrier surface of the handle.
This distance ensures that all the steam radiating laterally within the range of user contact is blocked by the barrier surface at the same time allows for the vent to release steam without blocking its passage.
The barrier surface of the handle as disclosed in the present invention instantly breaks the velocity of the high temperature steam released in the direction of the user and thereby acts as a barricade between the vent and the user.
The unique dimensions and positioning of the barrier surface for a handle of the present invention prevents the steam released from the vents from contacting the user and at the same time prevents the need for any complex mechanisms to achieve the same safety requirements.
An embodiment of the present invention provides a handle which is fixed to a lid of a pressure cooker, wherein the base 2 is fixed to the lid 5 by temporary or permanent means.
An embodiment of the present invention provides a handle which can be fixed to a lid of pressure cooker.
An embodiment of the present invention provides a handle having a barrier surface, made using a single injection mould.
The handle and the barrier surface of the handle disclosed in the present invention may be made by means of a single induction mould, using a non-corrosive heat resistant material, including but not limited to bakelite.
The heat resistant material forms the handle of the pressure cooker and the barrier surface 3 of the handle as a single unit by means of a single induction mould.
Optionally, the non-corrosive heat resistant material is partly or entirely, coated with a heat resistant material wherein heat resistant material preferably selected from but not limited to silicon, metal composites, inter alia.
Figure 1 of the present invention shows a pressure cooker 100 having barrier surface 3of handle 1 which is fixed to the base 2 of the lid 5. Wherein, the barrier surface 3 between a base edge 2A and a top edge 4 deflects steam escaping from a pressure vent 8 in an opposite direction of the handle 1.
Figure 2 of the present invention shows a detailed view of the lid 5 of the pressure cooker 100. Wherein, a handle 1 comprises a base edge 2A, a top edge 4 and a barrier surface 3 having height 6. A handle 1 is attached to the lid 5 through a base edge 2A.
Figure 3 [A] of the present invention shows top view and Figure 3 [B] of the present invention shows bottom view of the handle 1. Wherein, a handle 1 comprises a base 2, a base edge 2A, a top edge 4 and a barrier surface3 having height 6.
Figure 4 of the present invention shows a side view of the pressure cooker with barrier surface 3 of a handle 1. Wherein, the handle 1 comprises a base edge 2A, a top edge 4 and a barrier surface 3having height 6. A handle 1 is attached to the lid 5 through a base edge 2A. A barrier surface 3 between a base edge 2A and a top edge 4 deflects steam escaping from a pressure vent 8 in an opposite direction of the handle 1. The top edge 4 of the barrier surface 3 having angle of inclination 7 between 40 to 60 with the base edge 2A.
