FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates- to a head rest frame of seat in a vehicle to avoid rubbing noise
during adjustment. The adjustment is carried out to locate the head rest at desired
position.
BACKGROUND/PRIOR ART
Seats of motor vehicle are equipped with head rest. Rear seat head rests are
adjustable. Height of the head rest can be adjusted in two positions including topmost
position and lower most position. Top most position is the actual position of use.
However lowermost position is employed for better rear visibility and also to avail
maximum packaging space while folding rear seat backrest.
Now reference may be made to rear seat headrest frame available in the market as
shown in fig 1. The headrest frame comprises two legs (1,2) in which one leg has two
notches (3, 4) for locking the headrest at one of the two desired positions i.e; lower
most and uppermost position. However while conducting adjustment from lower
position to higher position and vice versa the frame leg with notches moves through a
guide. The guide is assembled with locking means via which leg with notches travels
in vertical direction.
The disadvantage with the above is that it creates noise owing to rubbing (R) between
the locking means in the guide and leg of head rest frame in intermediate position as
inFig2A.

The frame of headrest (F) is subsequently locked in the guide lock (G) as shown in fig
2B. • •
In view of the above there is a requirement to devise a novel headrest frame for seat of
a vehicle, which is adjustable without creating noise.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
An object of this invention is to propose a head rest frame of seat in a vehicle which
overcomes disadvantages associated with the prior art.
Another object of this invention is to propose a head rest frame of seat in a vehicle
which is simple in construction.
Further object of this invention is to propose a head rest frame of seat in a vehicle
which is cost effective and user friendly.
SUMMARY OF INVENTION
According to this invention there is provided a head rest frame of seat in a vehicle
comprises two legs, one of which is provided with two notches maintaining a gap
therebetween, wherein a slot is placed between said notches to avoid rubbing noise
during adjustment for locating the head rest at desired notch by means of a guide.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent from
the ensuing description when read in conjunction with the accompanying
drawings of exemplary embodiments of invention and wherein:
Fig. 1 shows: conventional rear seat head rest frame of vehicle.
Fig. 2A shows: intermediate position of guide and leg of head rest frame in prior art.
Fig. 2B shows: lock position of head rest frame in guide in known art.
Fig. 3 shows: head rest frame of vehicle of the present invention.
Fig. 4A shows: intermediate position of guide and leg of head rest frame according to
the present invention.
Fig. 4B shows: lock position of head rest frame in guide in accordance with the
present invention. .
DETAIL DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION WITH REFERENCE TO THE
ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
The present invention provides a solution to the existing problem by proposing a novel
headrest frame of seat. For the same, reference may be made to fig 3. As. already
discussed the headrest frame is having two legs (1', 2'), out of which one leg (1') is
integrated with two notches (3',4') maintaining a distance therebetween. A longitudinal
flat slot (S) is placed between said two notches (3', 4') on one (1') of the two legs (1', 2').
The slot comprises a depression between the notches.

-5-
The slot is a flat longitudinal slot which runs parallel to the leg in longitudinal
direction. The slot is confined between two steps (Xi, X2) at both ends adjacent to the
notches. Said steps are disposed at an angle with respect to the leg surface
constituting smooth angle for smooth passage of the leg through said guide.
During adjustment the locking means moves through the depression thereby avoiding
contact with the leg due to clearance (T) between the guide lock and slot as illustrated
in fig 4A, which serves the purpose Thus the provision of the flat slot avoids friction
between the locking means of guide and leg during adjustment for locating the
headrest at one of two desired positions without making noise. Reference may be made
to fig 4B for locked position.
Thus, the instant invention comprises a very simple construction to accomplish the
objects of invention for which it is devised.
According to another embodiment, friction between said locking means and leg of
headrest frame can be reduced by subjecting the leg with notches to smoothening.
However, it is quite expensive. Therefore former embodiment is preferred over the
later.
In accordance with present invention leg of frame made of steel is pressed between the
notches to develop the flat slot. The same, can be carried out by means of press
forming without restricting scope of the invention to the same. Thus other suitable
material/method readily apparent to a person skilled in the art are understood to be
within perview of the invention.

The concept of the invention can be extended to any seat head rest frame having
notches for locating the head rest at desired position by locking the same at respective
notche.
Advantageous Features
- . Reduction in friction between locking means of guide and leg of frame
which in turn eliminates noise.
- Eases the processing.
- Cost effective
- Customer friendly.
It is to be noted that the present invention is susceptible to modifications,
adaptations and changes by those skilled in the art. Such variant embodiments
employing the concepts and features of this invention are intended to be within
the scope of the present invention, which is further set forth under the
following claims:-
