Specification

FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates to a carton. By way of example, but without intending to imply any limitation thereto, the carton of the present invention can advantageously be employed for storage and dispensing of tea bags.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
Cartons presently known in the art normally consist of an ordinary carton made of cardboard and having a flap or upper cover member, which may be opened or closed. A distinct disadvantage associated with such a known construction of a carton is that of ingress of air and moisture into the carton, and thereby detrimentally affecting the quality of tea within said bags. Yet another disadvantage is that of ingress of aroma, which results in imparting a tainted taste to tea.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
An object of this invention is to propose an improved construction of a carton.

Another object of this invention is to propose an improved construction of a carton, which can advantageously be employed for storage of tea bags.
Still another object of this invention is to propose an improved construction of a carton, which prevents the ingress of air and aroma into said carton.
Yet another object of this invention is to propose an improved construction of a carton, which is simple.
STATEMENT OF INVENTION
According to this invention there is provided a carton comprising a box structure (1) with openings at either ends along the longitudinal axis closed by flaps (3), characterized in that a tearable flap member (4) is secured to the upper wall (5) through a weak line of the bow structure (1), an inlay or barrier member (6) adhered to the inner surface of said box structure (1) including said tearable flap (4) and having a weak zone tearable upon opening of said flap.

In accordance with this invention the carton has a normal box structure made of any known board material. The ends along the longitudinal axis is closed by flaps. Such features of a carton are known in the art and do not form a concept of the present invention.
Specifically, in accordance with this invention, a tearable cover/flap member is provided on the upper wall of said box and such that the rear end of the cover member is connected to the upper wall through a weak line. The inlay or barrier member is also adhered to the cover member and which is also tearable a1ong three sides.
A carton according to a preferred embodiment is herein described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein :-
Fig.1 shows the perspective view of the carton. Fig.2 shows inlay/barrier member.
Referring to the drawings particularly fig.i, the carton of this invention has a box structure i made of any known board material 2. Flaps 3 are provided at

either longitudinal ends to close said ends. A tearable cover or flap member 4 is provided in the upper wall 5 such that the rear end of the flap/cover 4 is secured to the upper wall 5 through a weak line. An inlay or barrier member 6 is adhered to the inner surface of all the walls csf the carton including the upper wall member
5 such that to be teared off along with the flap 3.
As shown in fig.2 the inlay or barrier member
6 comprises a first member 6A adhered to a second member
6B. The first member 6A may be paper having a thickness
of 35 to 4(3 gms/m2. The second member 6B may of aluminium foil extruded with metallised for ordinary polyethylene film, and wherein the aluminium foil may have thickness of 9-12 microns and polyethylene film may have a thickness of 15-38 microns.
Thus the carton of the present invention may be used for various, applications when ingress of air or around into the carton is to be prevented.

WE CLAIM:
1 A carton comprising a box structure (1) with openings at either
ends along the longitudinal axis closed by flaps (3),
characterized in that a tearable flap member (4) is secured to
the upper wall (5) through a weak line of the bow structure (1),
an inlay or barrier member (6) adhered to the inner surface of
said box structure (1) including said tearable flap (4) and having
a weak zone tearable upon opening of said flap.
2 A carton as claimed in claim 1 wherein said inlay or barrier
comprises a first member (6A) as herein described adhered to a
second (6B) member as herein described.
3 A carton as claimed in claim 3 wherein said first member (6A)
may be a paper sheet of the thickness of 35 to 40 gms/m2.
4 A carton as claimed in claim 3 wherein said second member
(6B) comprises an aluminium foil extruded with metallized or
ordinary polyethylene having the thickness of 15-38 microns.
5 A carton as claimed in claim 5 wherein the thickness of said
aluminum sheet is 9-12 microns.
6 A carton substantially as herein described and illustrated.
