Abstract: The present invention relates to a latching device used to fix the noise shield of a vehicle. The latching device configured for easy locking and unlocking of the noise shield of a vehicle. The said device has handle facilitated for locking and unlocking latching device to chassis member of the vehicle by pulling said handle and fixing the stem provided on the device into the opening provided on the bracket on chassis configured for holding the same. The said noise shield has flanges on its both ends facilitated to rest and locate on the bottom flange of said chassis. The latch exerts a lateral force on the noise shield in order to fix said noise shield in position with said chassis.

PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION
The following specification describes the invention.
FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention particularly relates to a latching mechanism which is meant for fixing the noise shield in place instead of using the fastener type mounting.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The noise shield is used in vehicles to reduce the noise produce by the engine. It is located below engine and connected to long member of the vehicle. It is known that usually fasteners are used to fix the noise shield to long member of a vehicle. While using the nuts and bolts to fix the noise shield, during the time of servicing it is hard to remove all the bolts and nuts every time; due to such obstructions during servicing most of the customers remove the noise shields and leave unfixed. This invention reduces the time of removing and fixing and makes handling also very easy. When nuts and bolts are used to fix the noise shield, due to vibrations the bolt and nut heads penetrates the noise shield loading area (tightening failure) and cannot be able to hold the noise shield in position for long period.
OBJECTS OF INVENTION
The objective of the present invention is to fix the noise shield in its place with out using fasteners like nuts and bolts.
Another objective of the present invention is provide a latching mechanism using which the noise shield of a vehicle can be fixed and removed easily.
Yet another objective of the present invention is to reduce the time taken for removing and fixing the noise shield in a vehicle.
Yet another objective of the present invention is to avoid bearing failure of the noise due to the tightening of the fasteners and the running vibration.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

Figure 4a - 4d, shows steps in fixing the noise shield to long member.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Referring to figures, a noise shield (2) is located under the engine and gear box to reduce the sound produced. The noise shield (2) is directly connected to the long member (1) of the vehicle. As per the present invention the noise shield (2) is attached to long member (1) of a vehicle using latching device. Necessary modification has been made in the noise shield so that it can hold to the long member firmly. The latching device (3) consisting of a handle (5) to pull the device after it locked with the noise shield. The handle is also acting as a locking device to lock the noise shield with the long member. A stem (6) with protrusions (7) at the end attached to the handle. A bracket (4) with a opening to locate the stem (6) of the latching device (3) is connected to the long member (1) of the vehicle so that handle portion of the fastening device can be hold in the bracket. The noise shield is provided with flanges (9) at both sides and located on the flange of the long member of the vehicle. The flange (9) of the noise shield is resting on the bottom flange of the long member and supported on the flange. Depressions (8) are provided on the noise shield to locate the protrusion (7) of the latching device. The depression having a vertical wall (10) to which the protrusion of the latching device is locked with. An opening is provided on depression to insert the protrusion (7) of the latching device. Referring to Fig 4a to 4d, After inserting the protrusion (7) in the opening provided on the depression (8), the latching device (5) (rubber latch) is turn to 90° to lock the protrusion (7) with the noise shield. Once the rubber latch is locked with the noise shield it is pulled by the handle to keep the noise shield flange (9) on the flange of the long member and pull it again to
lock with bracket (4). The bracket (4) is having opening to insert the stem (6) of the rubber latch and handle portion is engaged with bracket so that the rubber latch is locked with bracket by the handle portion.
By the above arrangement the noise shield is supported by the flanges of the long member and fasten to the long member bracket using the rubber latch. The rubber latch locked with vertical depression wall on the noise shield and will exert a lateral force on the noise shield to keep the shield in the position with the long member. For removing noise shield, the handle of the rubber latch can be pulled out to unlock with bracket. Using the rubber latch the noise shield can be easily mount and removed from the long member.
