Abstract: A load car for automatically testing vehicles of various power ratings includes a throttle controller, a dynamometer controller, a load cell and a control unit. The load cell determines the dead weight pull exerted by the tractor and provides input to the control unit. The control unit compares the value of the dead weight pull determined by the load cell with a predetermined value and accordingly controls the throttle controller and the dynamometer controller to select between the engine and the dynamometer for providing the load to the vehicle for testing the performance of the vehicle. 1. A load car for testing the performance of a vehicle, said load car comprising:
a throttle controller adapted for controlling a load provided by an engine to the vehicle;
a dynamometer controller adapted for controlling a load provided by a dynamometer to the vehicle;
a load cell configured for determining a dead weight pull exerted by the vehicle for pulling said load car; and
a control unit configured for selecting between the dynamometer and the engine for providing the load to the vehicle,
wherein
said control unit is configured to compare a value of the dead weight pull determined by said load cell with a predetermined value and accordingly controlling said throttle controller and said dynamometer controller to select between the engine and the dynamometer for providing the load to the vehicle for testing the performance of the vehicle.
2. The load car as claimed in claim 1, wherein said vehicle is a tractor.
3. The load car as claimed in claim 1, wherein said load cell is adapted to be connected between a drawbar and a load car coupler of the vehicle.
4. The load car as claimed in claim 1, further comprising a plurality of rear wheels to provide the load to the vehicle.
5. The load car as claimed in claim 1, wherein said throttle controller controls the load to the vehicle from the engine through a vehicle gear box, a first propeller shaft, a transfer box, a second propeller shaft, a differential, a rear axle and the rear wheels.
6. The load car as claimed in claim 1, wherein said dynamometer controller controls the load to the vehicle from the dynamometer through a planetary gear box, the transfer box, the second propeller shaft, the differential, the rear axle and the rear wheels.
7. A method of operating a load car having an engine, a dynamometer, a throttle controller, a dynamometer controller, a load cell, and a control unit, for testing the performance of a vehicle, said method comprising:
determining by the load cell, a dead weight pull value exerted by the vehicle for pulling said load car;
comparing the dead weight pull value with a predetermined value by the control unit;
controlling a throttle controller for providing a load to the vehicle through the engine when the dead weight pull is greater than the predetermined value, by the control unit; and
controlling a dynamometer controller for providing a load to the vehicle through the dynamometer when the dead weight pull is less than the predetermined value, by the control unit.
