DESC:CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS
[001] This application is based on and derives the benefit of Indian Provisional Application 201741011579, the contents of which are incorporated herein by reference.
TECHNICAL FIELD
[002] The embodiments herein generally relate topower transmission unit in vehicles and more particularly, to an integrated locknut and speedo tonner arrangement for a power transmission unit of at least one of a vehicle and a machine.
BACKGROUND
[003] Generally, aspeedo tonner is a separate component which is mounted on an output shaft of a power transmission unit of a vehicle.Typically, a speedo sensor is provided in communication with the speedo tonner to sense the output speed of the power transmission unit of the vehicle and the same speed which sensed by the speedo sensor is displayed on a cabin dashboard (instrumental cluster) of the vehicle. A locknut is a separate component which is used to secure the components that are assembled onto the output shaft of the power transmission unit. Most vehicles have speedo tonner spaced away from the locknut. The positioning of speedo tonner on the output shaft of the power transmission unit is complex and is one of the challenges posed to the original equipment manufacturers (OEM’S). Further, the manufacturing of the speed tonner involves multiple machining operations and the process is tedious. The chances of failure mode of the speedo tonner are high when the speedo sensor is not properly mounted onto the output shaft. As the speedo tonner and locknut are manufacturedseparately, the cost of manufacturing increases. Further, the packaging of the locknut and the speed tonner separately onto the output shaft consumes more packaging space, increases an overall length of the output shaft assembly and increases an overall weight of the power transmission unit.
[004] Therefore, there existsa need for an integrated locknut and speedo tonner arrangement for a power transmission unit of at least one of a vehicle and a machine, which obviates the aforementioned drawbacks.
OBJECTS
[005] The principal object of an embodiment of this invention is toprovide anintegrated locknut and speedo tonner arrangement for a power transmission unit of at least one of a vehicle and a machine.
[006] Another object of an embodiment of this invention is to provide anintegrated locknut and speedo tonner arrangement for a power transmission unit, where a speed tonner arrangement is integrated with a locknut.
[007] Another object of an embodiment of this invention is to provide anintegrated locknut and speedo tonner arrangement for a power transmission unit, where a lock nut is integrated with a speed tonner arrangement.
[008] Another object of an embodiment of this invention is to provide anintegrated locknut and speedo tonner arrangement for a power transmission unit, which eliminates the need of a separate locknut and a separate speedo tonner.
[009] Another object of an embodiment of this invention is to provide anintegrated locknut and speedo tonner arrangement for a power transmission unit, which has optimized design that reduces an overall length of an output shaft and gear assembly of the power transmission unit, an overall weight of the output shaft and gear assembly and eliminates the failure mode of the speedo tonner.
[0010] These and other objects of the embodiments herein will be better appreciated and understood when considered in conjunction with the following description and the accompanying drawings. It should be understood, however, that the following descriptions, while indicating embodiments and numerous specific details thereof, are given by way of illustration and not of limitation. Many changes and modifications may be made within the scope of the embodiments herein without departing from the spirit thereof, and the embodiments herein include all such modifications.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS
[0011] The embodiments of the invention are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, throughout which like reference letters indicate corresponding parts in the various figures. The embodiments herein will be better understood from the following description with reference to the drawings, in which:
[0012] Fig. 1 depicts a perspective view of an integrated locknut and speedo tonner arrangement for a power transmission unit, according to an embodiment of the invention as disclosed herein; and
[0013] Fig. 2 depicts a front view of an output shaft and gear assembly of the power transmission unit, according to an embodiment of the invention as disclosed herein.
