Abstract: The present invention describes a locking arrangement and a locking system for securing cap of a canister to the body.
A LOCKING ARRANGEMENT
Field of invention
The present invention relates to a locking arrangement, particularly, the present invention relates to a system that firmly secures the top cap of a canister to the body.
Background of the invention
It is known to provide a removable cover for containers, Incase of a container with removable cover, there is possibility of the cover slipping off and being detached during transportation. This inadvertent detachment of cover might lead to loss or spillage of the product contained in the container.
Therefore, it is always desirable to provide a locking mechanism which locks the cover with the container.
One of the conventionally known locking mechanism consisted of an aldrop mechanism. In this mechanism the cover is hinged to the container and one end and the other end of the cover is provided with an aldrop for locking the cover with the container. In another locking mechanism the cover is provided with threads and the corresponding mating threads are provided on the container.
With the construction of the existing locking mechanisms the removal of the cover is difficult. Also, it is difficult and expensive to construct such kind of locking mechanism. Accordingly, there is a need to provide an improved locking arrangement especially for canisters.
Objects of the present invention:
The main object of the present invention is to provide a locking arrangement.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a method for manufacturing of the
locking system/ locking arrangement.
Summary of invention:
The present invention provides a locking arrangement for a canister. The locking system of the present invention comprises a locking means which retains and restrains the cap from getting detached from the container.
Brief description of figures:
Figure 1 depicts a blown-up view of a container as per one embodiment of the invention. Figure 2 illustrates a cap constructed as per one embodiment of the present invention. Figure 3 depicts locking arrangement which can be provided on the cap according to an embodiment of the present invention.
Figure 4 shows a retainer constructed as per one embodiment of the present invention. Figures 5(a) and 5(b) illustrate indicator means with the 'release' and 'lock' position according to an embodiment of the present invention.
Detailed description of the invention:
Accordingly, the present invention provides locking arrangement for a canister comprising a locking means and a retainer, wherein the locking means is released by the retainer upon twisting. Referring to figures, figure 1 represents an embodiment constructed as per the invention. Figure 1 shows a system (1) comprising a container (2) and a cap (3) according to an embodiment of the present invention. The container (2) has an open top portion (4), a closed bottom portion (5) and inner surface (6) forming an enclosure. As shown in figure 1, the container (2) may be an elongated cylindrical container. However, container may be constructed of any suitable shape.
According to an embodiment of the present invention the container is provided with locking means such as radially inwardly extending lugs. The locking means may be any other suitable locking element. Figure 2 shows the container (2) with lug (7) according to an embodiment of the present invention.
Figure 2 shows the cap (3) of the closure system (1) according to an embodiment of the present invention. As shown in figure 2, the cap (3) comprises an abutting end (8) which
abuts with the open top portion (4) of the container (2). Diameter of the abutting end (8) is made equal to the diameter of the open top portion (4) of the container (2).
The cap comprises a peripheral side wall which extends from the abutting end. The peripheral side wall has a diameter which lesser than the diameter of the abutting end. The peripheral side wall has an outer surface which conforms with the said container inner surface. Figure 2 shows the peripheral side wall (9) according to an embodiment of the present invention. The peripheral side wall (9) may be a separate part which is attachable to interior of the cap (3) or the peripheral side wall (9) may be integrally formed with the cap (3). As it may be seen from figure 2, the peripheral side wall (3) has a reduced diameter portion which forms a collar portion (8) which abuts with the top open portion (4) of the container (2). The said collar portion (8) forms the abutting end of the cap. As shown in figure 2, the peripheral side wall (9) extends from the abutting end (8).
According to an embodiment of the present invention, the peripheral side wall comprises one or more locking means for selectably receiving and locking the said lug so as to prevent axial detachment of the cap. The locking means may be constructed so to receive the lug in axial direction when the peripheral side wall is received in the top open portion of the container. The locking means is located on the peripheral side wall so that the lug is received in the locking means at a predetermined position which referred hereinafter as 'release' position. The said predetermined position may be decided as desired by the manufacturer.
According to an embodiment of the present invention the locking means comprises a slot which extends partially in axial direction defining an axial portion and partially in circumferential direction defining a circumferential portion. With this construction of the locking means, the lug may be selectably received first in the axial portion and then in the circumferential portion by rotating the cap. Once the lug is received in the circumferential portion of the locking means the cap can not be removed in axial direction.
Figure 2 shows a locking means (10) according to an embodiment of the present invention. As shown in figure 2, the locking means is slot which extends partially in axial direction defining the axial portion (10A) and extends partially in circumferential direction defining a circumferential portion (10B). As can be noticed from figure 2, the axial portion (10A) of the slot emanates from outer edge (11) of the peripheral side wall so as to form an opening (12) to receive the lug (7). The peripheral side wall (9) is received in the open top portion (4) of the container (2) only when the said opening (12) of the slot comes in selective registration with the lug (7). The lug (7) is received in the axial portion (10A) till the abutting end (8) comes in contact with the open top portion (4) of the container (2); from this location the lug (7) may be received in the circumferential portion (10B) of the slot by rotating the cap (3) in the direction of the circumferential portion (10B). As may be observed from figure 2, once the lug (7) is received in the slot, cap (2) can not be removed in axial direction which is hereinafter referred as 'lock' position. The cap (3) can only be removed by the rotating the cap (3) along the direction of the circumferential portion (10B), when it comes in alignment with the axial portion (10A).
Figure 3 shows that the locking means (10) can be a slot of any suitable shape such as 'L' or'T' shape.
Similarly, the lug (7) can be of any suitable shape which can be selected from the group comprising circular, rectangular, triangular, polygonal etc. Figure 4 shows the some of the possible shape of the lugs which can be envisaged by perusing the description of the present invention. Interior of the slot can be formed so as to according to the exterior of the lug.
According to an embodiment of the present invention, the container and the cap is provided with indicator means for indicating 'release' and 'lock' positions of the cap.
Figures 5(a) and 5(b) illustrate the indicator means (13) for showing 'release' and 'lock' position of the cap in accordance of an embodiment of the present invention.
The present invention is described with reference to the figures and specific embodiments; this description is not meant to be construed in a limiting sense. Various alternate embodiments of the invention will become apparent to persons skilled in the art upon reference to the description of the invention. It is therefore contemplated that such alternative embodiments form part of the present invention.
