Abstract: ABSTRACT A METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MEASURING GEOMETRIC CHARACTERISTICS OF PARTICLES Method and apparatus for measuring geometric characteristics of particles. The method comprises obtaining at least one shadowgraphic image of the particles and processing the at least one shadowgraphic image to determine a threshold radius of the particles and a radial intensity gradient magnitude at a reference intensity by processing the shadowgraphic images. The method further comprises determining a dimensionless depth of the particles from an object plane using the threshold radius and the radial intensity gradient magnitude and determining a dimensionless radius based on the dimensionless depth. Lastly, the method comprises performing calibration-free size measurements of the particles based on the threshold radius and the dimensionless radius.
