A Method And System For An Optimal Choice Of Journals For Publication Of A Manuscript

Abstract: Method and system for automatic selection of journals for publication of- manuscript. The method is defined particularly to recommend a list of journals where the manuscript has the maximum chance of getting published. The system- defined through the present invention particularly provides the order of suitability of the journals by providing a list of journals in which the author has the greatest probability of successful publication with better revelation of the manuscript.

A METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR AN OPTIMAL CHOICE OF JOURNALS FOR PUBLICATION OF A MANUSCRIPT;
CRIMSON INTERACTIVE PRIVATE
LIMITED, A COMPANY ORGANIZED AND EXISTING UNDER THE LAWS OF INDIA, WHOSE ADDRESS IS 225, LINKWAY ESTATE, ABOVE GREEN RESTAURANT, LINK ROAD, MALAD (W), MUMBAI - 400064, MAHARASHTRA, INDIA
THE FOLLOWING SPECIFICATION
DESCRIBES INVENTION

FIELD OF THE INVENTION:
This invention relates to automatic short-listing of journals .for publication of manuscripts, particularly to provide a list of journals in which -the author has the greatest probability of successful publication..
BACKGROUND ART:
It is already well-known and is important that an author's choice of journal for publication of manuscript has to be as precise as possible to minimize the lag to publications and reduce the associated costs, and requirement of resources. The process followed by an author, for choosing the right journal for a manuscript is a challenging exercise as factors such as focus of the journal, the impact factor of the journal, timeliness and many others influence the final decision. The focus of the journal depicts the information related to journal type, field of study, type of articles accepted. The impact factors are relevant for fields that have a similar publication pattern. As of now, the journal information is obtained manually relative to the factors such as cost of publication, circulation and coverage, accessibility, acceptance rate and many others.
Based on the extracted information, the journal is evaluated manually for.publication of the manuscript respective to the factors . relative to manuscript. The factors relative to manuscript include expected geographical reach, purpose of publishing, urgency of publishing, budget etc. This is a time consuming and tedious process.
Thus, evaluating number of journals manually becomes very
2

time consuming, tedious and may not provide accurate results.
The review process for each journal requires a long period of time. The top reasons for outright rejection are that the target journals are not appropriate in terms of scope, focus- and coverage information.
OBJECT OF THE INVENTION;
The object of the present Invention is to provide a method and system for automatic selection of' journals for publication of manuscript. The method is defined particularly to recommend a list of journals where the manuscript has the maximum chance of getting published. The system defined through the present invention particularly provides the order of suitability of the journals by providing a list of journals in which the author has the greatest probability of successful publication with better revelation of the manuscript.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS:
Figure- 1 shows a system for an optimal choice of journal for a publication as per one embodiment herein. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS:
The Fig. 1 may define the method and system for predicting journal for publication as per an embodiment of present invention. The modules confining the system may carry associative functions of the method for predicting journals for publication.
•3

The user interface module referred as "UI Module" (.501), may receive inputs from the external user and' may provide outputs to the external user.
The coder - decoder module referred as "I/O Codec Module" (502), may perform the "decoding /coding respective to the directive communication to the modules as UI Module(501), I/O Codec Module (502), OD Module (507) . and Processing. Unit (505).
The input response value ' generation and encryption module referred as "IRGE Module" (503) may generate encrypted input response value relative to the input received from I/O Codec Module (502) .
The arbiter & impact parameter generator module referred as "AIPG Module" (504) may generate impact levels. The impact levels may be resultant of the mapping established by executing linkage arbitration.
The lookup' stacks referred as "LUS Module" (506) may form the journal database.
The Processing Unit (505) may process the impact levels through the logic combining percentile points and weights to generate final result.
The-output decryption logic referred as "OD Module" (507) may decrypt the result generated by processing in reference with the LUS (506) and communicates the same to the I/O Codec "Module (502) .

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION:
According to an embodiment of the present invention, a series of' objective, inputs are provided to the system. The series of objective inputs may comprise many individual variables, ' but advantageously may comprise between ten and twelve such individual variables.
The variable may convey any desired parameter relating to publication analysis.
The journal database formed may consist of lookup stacks. The lookup stacks essentially may comprise of journal characteristics as category, type of linking, and type of list of journals to be searched and are coded with field code
The objective input response value parameters may be mapped to the mapping logic. The mapping logic essentially may consist of journal characteristic parameters forming mapping environment. The mapping environment may have . dexterity of modifications to journal characteristics used to generate impact factors.
The mapping logic may perform linking arbitration to establish injective or^ surjectiye mapping. The injective mapping depicts one-to-one mapping where as surjective mapping refers to not-one-to-one mapping. The mapping is resultant of the received objective inputs, under the map types as "Shortlist", "Add Weights", "Percentile Points-Descending", "Exclude". Based on the impact factors, the impact levels maybe generated.
5

The impact levels may be further processed through the
logic combining' percentile points and weights to generate
final result. The final result may comprise essentially .of
the ' order of suitability of the journals for the
publication of the manuscript. • '
An exemplary embodiment of the present invention is as follows:
The: journal selection- system is constructed of the modules which may carry associative functions of the method for predicting journal for publication. The user interface module referred as "UI Module" (501), may receive 12 objective inputs. The objective input variable convey levels of desired parameter such as geographical reach, field of study and many others relating to publication analysis. .The input response value generation and encryption module referred as "IRGE Module" (503). may generate, encrypted input response, value relative to the received input. The arbiter & impact parameter generator" module referred as "AIPG Module" (504) may generate impact levels. The impact levels may be resultant of the mapping established by executing linkage arbitration. The lookup stacks referred as "LUS Module" (506) may form the journal database. The journal database formed consists of lookup stacks comprise of journal characteristics such as Scope, Focus, Accessibility Information, Cost and many others. Each of the responses is mapped to journal characteristics by means of short listing or weighting or percentile point's. The Processing Unit (505) may process the impact levels through the logic combining percentile points and weights to generate final 'result. The final report may
6

consist of the top 5 scores with particular details which' Will aid the user in his decision. The final report may give the following (top 5 journals) in order of suitability:
a. Journal Name
b. Link to' instructions to authors
c. Link of Home page
d. Journal focus
e. Rejection rate + Reasons for rejection
f. language proficiency requirements pre-submission
g. Accessibility information
h. Cost information (relative)
i. Quality information (relative)
j. Last updated date
k. Recommendations for Editing
The present .invention may overcome the challenges of the current scenario through the automatic and quick linking arbitration and mapping features. The present invention may produce result providing a list of journals in which the author has the greatest probability of successful publication.
