Abstract: The present invention relates to devices and associated methods for determining authorized presence of an individual operating an electronic device in a determined geographical area. A FIRST DEVICE and a PLURALITY of SECOND set of DEVICEs exchange multiple triggers to detect authorized presence of SUCH SECOND set of DEVICES and thus presence of the individuals operating the second device.
Technical Field
Embodiments of the present disclosure relates to devices and associated methods for determining
authorized presence of an individual, and more specifically, but not limited to, a system and
method for determining said authorized presence of the individual in a determined geographical
area.
Background
Telecommunication has experienced enormous growth in the past years. The use of electronic
devices such as mobile phones, smart phones, and personal digital assistants (PDAs) has increased
tremendously. The growth in the usage of electronic devices is also revolutionizing
telecommunication services offered to subscribing customers.
One of the foremost security need is to determine the authorized presence of an individual.
Traditionally, the most common method of marking presence of a group of individuals has been
to manually call said individuals by their names or any assigned unique identity assigned to them.
For example, in a typical educational institution, a teacher marks attendance of students in such
manual manner.
One of the disadvantages of such manual operation is that it is extremely time consuming. With
increase in the number of individuals to be marked the effort and time required to manually call
each individual is highly cumber some.
Thus, to mark presence of members (which may be few hundred), the effort required to mark
presence of each member is huge.
Thus, the most common disadvantage with the present invention is that when multiple members
need to be dealt with the time and cost required increases exponentially.
Thus, there is a long felt need for a mechanism wherein presence of multiple individuals can be
marked in a timely manner.
More particularly, there is a need for a mechanism wherein increase in the number of individuals
that need to be marked does not increase the time or effort.
Also, there is a need for a mechanism, wherein said marking is done almost instantaneously
irrespective of the number of the individuals.

In line with the embodiments of the present invention, the electronic devices of the present
invention are configured with an app utility.
Said app utility allows said devices to selectively and simultaneously operate as a CLIENT and a
SERVER.
For example, in a typical scenario, a FIRST DEVICE operated by a FIRST USER is configured with
a FIRST APP UTILITY.
Said FIRST APP UTILITY allows said FIRST DEVICE to display a SINGLE number in a random
fashion on the DISPLAY of the FIRST DEVICE.
Said random number is displayed on the DISPLAY of said FIRST DEVICE in response to an INPUT
EVENT by the FIRST USER on the GUI MENU of the DISPLAY.
In response to said INPUT EVENT at FIRST DEVICE said RANDOM NUMBER is additionally and
instantaneously displayed on the DISPLAY of a SECOND ELECTRONIC DEVICE as part of a GROUP
of other RANDOM NUMBERS.
Now, said FIRST DEVICE in response to said display of a SINGLE RANDOM number at FIRST
DEVICE is configured to send an audio signal representing said SINGLE RANDOM NUMBER.
The user of the SECOND DEVICE in response to said AUDIO SIGNAL are required to select said
SINGLE RANDOM number from said GROUP of RANDOM NUMBERS within a predetermined TIME
INTERVAL.
Selection of a RANDOM NUMBER at a SECOND DEVICE from a group of multiple numbers said
RANDOM NUMBER being also displayed at FIRST DEVICE results in successful marking of presence
of said individual.
A successful marking of the presence of an individual (ENTITY) is recorded when
- User of SECOND DEVICE selects a number that is also displayed on the FIRST DEVICE and
- Said selection of same number is effectuated by the user of SECOND DEVICE within a
predetermined interval.
4
On selection of the SINGLE RANDOM number on the SECOND DEVICE and which is also
displayed in the FIRST DEVICE, a trigger notification of type “SUCCESSFUL” is sent from
said SECOND DEVICE to said FIRST DEVICE.
On receipt of said notification of type “SUCCESSFUL” at FIRST DEVICE, the USER of the
SECOND DEVICE is marked as “PRESENT”.
In order to permanently store said mark as “PRESENT”, the FIRST DEVICE is coupled with
a DATABASE REPOSITORY. The DATABASE REPOSITORY in an embodiment is an
electronic device and comprises of a MEMORY AREA to store and retrieve electronic
records.
In case, no RESPONSE/NOTIFICATION TRIGGER is retrieved from the SECOND DEVICE
within the predetermined interval or a RESPONSE/NOTIFICATION TRIGGER is sent after
said interval, then the corresponding default entry in the DATABASE REPOSITORY is
unchanged.
The default entry in the DATABASE REPOSITORY is marked and stored as “ABSENT”.
Further, in order to increase the security, while sending trigger notification of type
“SUCCESSFUL” from said SECOND DEVICE, an additional information indicating
geographical information of the SECOND DEVICE is sent to said FIRST DEVICE.
The FIRST APP UTILITY on the FIRST DEVICE is configured to interpret said geographic
location as received and compare the same with a predetermined criteria.
For example, in an embodiment the predetermined criteria is that if the geographic
location of the SECOND DEVICE is NOT within four (4) meters of the geographic location
of FIRST DEVICE then such a trigger notification of type “SUCCESSFUL” is disregarded
and no change is made .
Thus, no change is made to the default entry in the DATABASE REPOSITORY when said
criteria is not met even if the trigger notification is of type “SUCCESSFUL”.
Thus, in an embodiment said criteria of determining and comparing geographic location is
given priority over Type of notification received.
A person skilled in the art would appreciate that in a typical scenario, multiple SECOND
DEVICES shall be communicating simultaneously and in parallel with the FIRST DEVICE.
The FIRST DEVICE is configured to receive and interpret multiple trigger notifications from
SECOND DEVICE.
The electronic devices of the present invention have an exemplary architecture as follows.
The architecture comprises of CPU bus which is, essentially, an interconnection wires that
all subsystems are connected to. In general, only one pair of devices can talk to each
5
other at a time, so communication of the bus must be coordinated to prevent message
collisions. This coordination is often handled by the CPU.
The central processing unit (CPU) executes instructions contained in memory. These
instructions are executed at a rate specified by the computer's clock.
The CPU needs to access two different types of memory in order to execute a program.
There are two types of memories used in micro-controllers. These are read-only
memory (ROM) and random access memory (RAM).
In a micro-controller, read-only memory (ROM) is used to store permanent programs,
operating drivers, and data. Many micro-controllers use erasable programmable read-only
memory (EPROM) or electrically erasable programmable read-only memory (EEPROM) to
store programs, operating drivers, and data. EPROM and EEPROM are non-volatile
memories.
Random access memory or RAM is used to temporarily store data and instructions.
The relevant components of electronic device(s) and base station subsystems of the
present invention selectively comprise of:
- Signal control unit (not shown):
. Device: Mainly comprising of CPU + software in memory + rf section, for
controlling the bandwidth usage in device.
• Service provider network: Mainly comprising of server + software in memory
+ rf section, for controlling the bandwidth usage in network.
- Memory unit:
. Device: Mainly comprising of memory, for storing software + data associated
with one or more services/tasks/operations as transceived by the said signal
control unit.
• Service provider network: Mainly comprising of memory, for storing software
+ data associated with one or more services/tasks/operations as transceived by
the said signal control unit
- Signal processing unit:
. Device: Mainly comprising of CPU + software in memory + speaker, for
processing short switching trigger data pulse signal to accomplish the operations
by performing output to the speaker after recalling the corresponding service
memory from device and confirm to network provider/operator.
• Service provider network: Mainly comprising of server + software in memory,
for processing short switching trigger data pulse signal to accomplish the
operations by transceiving to device and confirmation from device.
