A method for producing hot briquetted iron (HBI) with high carbon content comprising following steps.a feeding a first stream of calcined petroleum coke into a second stream of direct reduced iron fines to obtain a third combined stream of material, which is a mixture of calcined petroleum coke and directly reduced iron finesb. feeding the above said third combined stream into a fourth stream of direct reducediron form the product discharge chamber of direct reduction reactor to obtain a fifth combined stream of material.c. subjecting the said fifth stream to a briquetting stage andd. withdrawing a final briquetted product of Hot Briquetted Iron with high carbon.
