Specification

TECHNICAL FIELD

The present disclosure relates to the field of 3d animation. More particularly the embodiments of the disclosure relate to creation of customized 3d movie clip on a handheld device.

BACKGROUND OF THE DISCLOSURE

Recent advances in mobile network technologies and its multimedia capability coupled with the emergence of reliable standards in mobile devices has given consumers the ability to personalize their handheld devices. This has led to a growing market in mobile device applications that consumers may purchase and download to their handheld devices. Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) is one of the third generation or 3G mobile network technologies that offer significantly faster mobile personal configuration data rates than older GPRS (also known as 2.5G) technologies, allowing for the transfer of richer media content such as movies, video telephony and interactive web sites to video capable mobile devices.

The adoption of 3G mobile network technologies provides consumers with the opportunity to customize their handheld devices with content that was not available with previous mobile network technologies. For example, 3G capable mobile devices allow consumers to send and receive animated movie clips. However, 3d animated movie clips cannot be personalized by the average consumer due to the high cost of required software tools and technical skills and knowledge required to operate them. The animated movie clip has to be carefully scripted to overcome the issues of aggressive compression techniques, small screen resolution, and limited color range and slow frame rate of current 3G capable handheld devices. Hence, personalization of 3d animated movie clips is not readily available as a product to the majority of consumers.

Hence, there is a need to provide users of the handheld device with an application to create and personalize the 3d movie clip such that the users can easily personalize the 3d movie clip without using much of the software tools and technical skills.

An embodiment of the present disclosure provides a method for creating a customized 3d movie clip on a handheld device.

Fig.1 shows launch screen of an application configured in the handheld device.

Referring to Fig.1 the application enables user of the handheld device to create and customize 3d movie clip. The application provides plurality of pre-built animated templates which are stored in "Animated templates". The stored animated templates are preconfigured movie clips. The application enables the user to retain the pre-built animated template or to perform customization techniques on the animated template and create a customized 3d movie clip. Also, the application enables the user to create an account for storing the customized 3d movie clip. Further, the application enables the user to share the customized 3d movie clip by uploading the customized 3d movie clip to server in a compact and precise format.

User starts creating a customized 3d movie clip by selecting one of the animated templates from the plurality of the templates as shown in the Fig. 2. Once the template is selected, it is loaded in a new screen as shown in the Fig.3. Fig.3 also shows plurality of icons such as actor, music, scene and story using which the user performs customization technique on the selected template and creates a customized 3d movie clip. The icons shown here are for illustrative purpose only. User can add or download number, type of icons on handheld device.

Figs. 4a-4m illustrates the customization techniques performed on the template. The customization techniques are model customization and scene customization.
In model customization technique, the user clicks on the actor icon for selecting plurality of actors for enacting the animated template. Fig. 4a shows plurality of ways in which the actors are selected. The actors are selected from either the application hosted in the device or media gallery of the device. The user is also provided with an option to capture the image using the device camera while carrying out the creating process and the captured image is used as the actor. The user can also download the actors from web. The handheld device is connected to the web through a network. The network may comprise a public network e.g., the Internet etc. or private network e.g., local area network (LAN), etc. or any combinations thereof e.g., a virtual private network, LAN connected to the Internet, etc. Furthermore, the network need not be a wired network only, and may comprise wireless network elements as known in the art. Fig.4b shows plurality of the actors which allows the user select an actor for enacting the animated template.

In an embodiment, the image captured using device camera is further edited using an edit tool. Once the image is loaded on the handheld device, the user can select any portion of the image by using a predetermined marker. Various forms/types of marker are provided in the handheld device for the purpose of selecting portion of image.

Referring to Fig. 4c the user selects face portion from the picture and adjust the markers on the face. The edited image is used as the actor.

Upon selecting the actor for enacting the template, the user adds costumes to the selected actor. In an embodiment, the costumes include but are not limiting to dress, headgear, spectacles, hairstyle, mustache, and beard.

In scene customization technique, the user clicks on the scene icon for selecting a background scene for the animated template.

The background scene is selected from atleast one of the pre-bundled background scenes provided by the application, image of a place or artifact that is captured using the device's camera, image from the device's media gallery and downloaded from the web as shown in the

Fig.4d. After selecting the background scene the user customizes the 3d movie clip by adding additional props and by providing lighting. The plurality of light templates is provided by the application.

In an embodiment, the user clicks on lights icon to select a light template for the 3d movie clip.

Further, a virtual camera is associated with the 3d movie clip which helps the user to define the 3d movie clip upon his interest. The placement of the virtual camera gives a different perspective of the 3d movie clip. In an embodiment, the user clicks on the view icon to customize the virtual camera view by changing the camera position and field of view. The plurality of options provided by the view icon is as shown in the Fig. 4e. The Rotate option allows the user to rotate the 3d movie clip. The Translate option allows the user to move the 3d movie clip vertically or horizontally. Once the 3d movie clip has been translated to another location the processing will continue with the 3d movie clip in that location. The Zoom in and Zoom out option allows the user to zoom in and zoom out the 3d movie clip. The close-up option allows the user to take a close-up of the 3d movie clip or the actor.

In an embodiment, the user clicks on the music icon to select background music for the animated template.

The user selects the background music for the animated template from at least one of pre-bundled music provided by the application, media gallery of the device and recorded music as shown in the Fig. 4f. The application enables the user to record music using the device microphone as shown in the Fig. 4g. The application also enables the user to select any part of the audio portion to be used in the movie as shown in the Fig. 4h.

In an embodiment, the user clicks on the story icon to provide a story for the 3d movie clip. As a part of this process, the application enables the user to enter the names of the actors, the name of the director who creates the movie which is by default the user, the title of the movie, the end note which appears at the end of the movie and the story which appears in the beginning of the movie in the screen provided by the application as shown in the Fig. 4i.

In an embodiment, the present disclosure enables the user to preview the customized 3d movie clip at each stage of the customization technique.

Figs. 4i-4m shows preview of the created customized 3d animated movie clip to the user when the user clicks on the preview button. Firstly the title, name of the actor and director is displayed as shown in the Fig. 4j. Secondly the story created for the 3d movie clip is displayed as shown in the Fig. 4k. Fig.41 shows the enactment of the animated template and finally, Fig.4m displays the end note of the customized 3d movie clip.

In an embodiment, the present disclosure enables the user to redo any of the customization technique until the user is happy with the created customized 3d movie clip. The user is provided with an option to upload the customized animated 3d movie clip to the server in a compact and precise format. The uploaded link can also be shared with others using social networking sites, video sites, SMS, and email.

In an embodiment, the 3d movie clip is viewed on multiple devices ranging from a basic handheld device supporting video playback to desktops. Depending on the viewer's device capability, the content is disseminated in a fashion to give best possible user experience on the consuming device. On compatible devices, the viewer would experience the clip in 3d. The viewer can also take the existing clip, customize it as described above and create an altogether different clip. This newly created clip can be shared again for further consumption.
