Abstract: The present disclosure provides a method of quantification of particulate matter deposition on hair that is superior than conventional methods using scanning electron microscopy. Also provided in the present disclosure is a composition for inhibition of particulate matter deposition on hair.
CLIAMS:1. A method of quantification of particulate matter deposition on hair, said method comprising of:
a. exposing hair fibers to particulate matter;
b. incubating said hair fibers from a) for a period of time;
c. removing particulate matter not attached to hair fibers;
d. washing off particulate matter attached to hair fibers; and
e. quantifying washed off particulate matter,
wherein said method is economical, and faster than conventional scanning electron microscopy method.
2. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein said hair fibers are pre-treated prior to exposure to particulate matter by treating them with coconut oil overnight at room temperature, followed by washing with sodium lauryl ether sulfate, and water.
3. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein said particulate matter is diesel particulate matter.
4. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein said incubation of step b) is carried out for 4 hours at room temperature.
5. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein step d) is carried out by incubating hair fibers with 0.1% SDS solution overnight at room temperature.
6. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein said quantification of step d) is carried out by measuring the optical density of washed off particulate matter at 600nm.
7. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein deposition of particulate matter on hair is directly proportional to the amount of hair fibers.
8. A composition comprising of:
a. lecithin;
b. glycerine;
c. phenoxyethanol;
d. xanthan gum; and
e. water,
wherein said composition inhibits particulate matter deposition on hair fibers.
9. The composition as claimed in claim 8, wherein lecithin weight percentage in said composition is in the range of 0.1-0.2%, glycerine weight percentage in said composition is in the range of 0.3-0.6%, phenoxyethanol weight percentage in said composition is 1-3%, xanthan gum weight percentage in said composition is 0.5-0.6%, and quantity sufficient water to 100%.
10. A method of inhibiting particulate matter deposition on hair fibers, said method comprising of:
a. obtaining a composition as claimed in claim 9; and
b. contacting said composition with hair fibers,
wherein said method inhibits particulate matter deposition on hair fibers.
