Abstract: The present disclosure proposes a method steps of ascertaining oil dilution in a vehicle. In method step 201, the amount of fuel released in oil for every fuel after injection is measured. In step 202, a value 5 of fuel released in oil per plunger stroke is calibrated. In step 203, the amount fuel in oil associated with the operation of the fuel injection pump (106) is calculated based on the calibrated value and engine (101) parameters. In step 204, an integrated value of said determined amount of fuel released in oil for every 10 fuel after injection is added to an integrated value of said calculated amount of fuel in oil associated with the operation of the fuel injection pump (106). In step 205, a value of fuel evaporation rate and an oil consumption rate is deducted from said added value to ascertain oil dilution in a vehicle.
Claims:1. A method (200) of ascertaining oil dilution in a vehicle, the vehicle
comprising a fuel injection pump (106) operating by means of at least one
plunger, an electronic control unit in communication with the fuel
injection pump (106), the method steps comprising measuring 5 the amount
of fuel released in oil for every fuel after injection, characterized in the
method steps:
calculating a value of fuel released in oil per plunger stroke;
calibrating the amount fuel in oil associated with the operation of
10 the fuel injection pump (106) based on the calibrated value and
engine (101) parameters;
adding an integrated value of said determined amount of fuel
released in oil for every fuel after injection to an integrated value of
said calculated amount of fuel in oil associated with the operation
15 of the fuel injection pump (106);
deducting a value of fuel evaporation rate and an oil consumption
rate from said added value to ascertain oil dilution in a vehicle.
2. The method of ascertaining oil dilution in a vehicle as claimed in
20 claim 1, wherein the value of fuel in oil per plunger stroke is predetermined
value calculated for specific type of fuel pump (106).
3. The method of ascertaining oil dilution in a vehicle as claimed in
claim 1, wherein the engine (101) parameters comprise pump drive ratio
and at least an engine (101) rpm.
4. An Electronic control unit (ECU (104)) adapted 5 to ascertain oil
dilution in a vehicle, the vehicle comprising a fuel injection pump (106)
operating by means of at least one plunger, the ECU (104) in
communication with the fuel injection pump (106), the ECU (104)
configured to:
measure the amount of fuel released in oil for every fuel after
injection, characterized in the method steps:
calibrate a value of fuel released in oil per plunger stroke;
calculate the amount fuel in oil associated with the operation of the
fuel injection pump (106) based on the calibrated value and engine
15 (101) parameters;
add an integrated value of said determined amount of fuel released
in oil for every fuel after injection to an integrated value of said
calculated amount of fuel in oil associated with the operation of the
fuel injection pump (106);
20 deduct a value of fuel evaporation rate and an oil consumption rate
from said added value to ascertain oil dilution in a vehicle.
5. An Electronic control unit (ECU (104)) adapted to ascertain oil
dilution in a vehicle as claimed in claim 4, wherein the value of fuel in oil
per plunger stroke is pre-determined value calculated for specific type of
fuel pump (106).
6. An Electronic control unit (ECU (104)) adapted to ascertain oil
dilution in a vehicle as claimed in claim 4, wherein 5 the engine (101)
parameters comprise pump drive ratio and at least an engine (101) rpm. , Description:The present disclosure proposes a method steps of ascertaining oil dilution

in oil per plunger stroke is calibrated. In step 203, the amount fuel in oil
associated with the operation of the fuel injection pump (106) is calculated
based on the calibrated value and engine (101) parameters. In step 204, an
integrated value of said determined amount of fuel released in oil for every
10 fuel after injection is added to an integrated value of said calculated
amount of fuel in oil associated with the operation of the fuel injection
pump (106). In step 205, a value of fuel evaporation rate and an oil
consumption rate is deducted from said added value to ascertain oil
dilution in a vehicle.
