A Method Of Generating Recyclable Products From Primary Steelmaking Slag
Abstract: The invention discloses a process of treating primary steelmaking slag with carbonaceous material to obtain a lime rich powder having P2O5 content less than 1% for recycling in iron & steel making processes as flux and metal values for special application . In this process, the primary steelmaking slag is treated with a carbonaceous material at a temperature range of 1600-1700 oC to form a powdery mixture of oxides lean in FeO and P2O5 and rich in lime content (>60%).The powdery mixture is attained by slow cooling and aging of the treated product in normal atmospheric condition for a few days, and the process does not involve any crushing, grinding or milling. Since the powdery mixture has low P2O5 and high lime contents, it can be used as a metallurgical flux in iron and steelmaking processes. Also, the obtained powdery mixture is fine in size and has composition very close to that of Portland cement. This makes the product a potential agent for cement manufacturing. {Fig. 1}
