Abstract: The end-holding clamp (5) of CNC insulating taping machine is movable end hence is moved from its position to avoid collision with tapping head during taping on hydrogenerator stator bars (10). The clamp (16) is disposed to act as a bridge between the stator bar end (3) and movable end holding clamp (5) of CNC taping machine. The clamp (16) is disposed to act as a bridge between the stator bar end (3) and movable end-holding clamp (5) of CNC taping machine. The clamp (16) holds the stator bar (10) at end (3) without any change in position of stator bar (10) on CNC taping machine and makes the CNC insulation taping machine suitable for hydro generator stator bars.

Specification

FIELD OF INVENTION
The invention relates to a method of insulation taping on hydro generators stator
bars (10) on a CNC insulating taping machine.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
For turbo generator stator bars, this CNC taping machine works satisfactorily but
it creates problem with stator bars of hydro generator. The profile of the second
bend of 'U' shaped hydro bar is such that the taping head collides with the
movable end-holding clamp (5) during insulation taping. Hence, it was not
possible to have insulation taping on this hydro stator bar as per Engineering
drawing on CNC taping machine.
The taping on hydro stator bar was done manually. The process involved more
manpower and consumed more time.
CNC Insulation Taping M/C is suitable for automatic insulation taping on 'U'
Shaped stator bars. Stator bar is fixed on CNC taping M/C with one fixed end-
holding clamp (4) & another movable end-holding clamp (5) with adjustable
distance.
Taping head (9) on CNC Taping Machine moves along the profile of Stator bars
according to the Insulation Program in its computer.
Hence, there exists a need to explore an arrangement or a holding clamp to
facilitate the taping of the stator bars of Hydro Generator.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
Therefore, it is an object of the invention to propose a method of insulation
taping on hydro generators stator bars (10) on a CNC insulating taping machine
which ensures the feasibility of said insulation taping.
Another object of the invention is to propose a method of insulation taping on
hydro generators stator bars (10) on a CNC insulating taping machine which can
eliminate manual taping and saves time and manpower.
A further object of the invention is to propose a method of insulation taping on
hydro generators stator bars (10) on a CNC insulating taping machine which
gives better quality insulation compared with manually insulation taped stator
bars.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWING

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE
INVENTION
To avoid the collision of taping head (9) with movable end-holding clamp (5),
position of this clamp (5) is shifted with the use of new holding clamp (16). This
new holding clamp (16) holds the end of stator bar (3) such that the position of
stator bar (10) remains unchanged. In this way, the path of rotating taping head
(9) is cleared from any collision.
Fig.l shows a U-shaped hydro stator bar. At the ends of its slot length, there are
two bends, which are called 1st bend (1) and 2nd bend (2) as shown in this fig-1.
Overhang portion lies between 1st bend (1) and 2nd bend (2).
Fig.2 shows the CNC Taping Machine. Stator bar (10) is placed on bar supports
(6) and end of stator bar (3) is clamped with end holding clamps (4) and (5) of
CNC Taping Machine. Position of end-holding clamp (4) is fixed but the position
of end-holding clamp (5) can be adjusted according to the length of stator bar
(10). This CNC taping M/C has a control panel (7) consisting microprocessors and
a monitor (8). Insulation tape is wrapped on stator bar (10) by a Rotating taping
head (9). Rolls of Insulation tape are placed on spools (11) and this taping head
(9) rotates around the stator bar and moves as per Insulation program.
Fig.3 shows the position of taping head (9) at the end of overhang of stator bar.
The profile of Hydro stator bars are such that at the end of stator bar (3), taping
head (9) collides with movable end-holding clamp (5).
Fig.4 shows the detail of holding clamp which was developed to solve the
problem. End of stator bar (3) is hold by a jaw (12) and tighten with screw (14).
Jaw is enabled to rotate by 360 degree in horizontal plane by a cylindrical hold
(15). A
small size plate (13) is used to fix this clamp (16) with movable end-holding
clamp (5).
Fig.5 shows the use of holding clamp (16) when clamp 5 is shifted. The
implemented method is described below.
1- Movable end-holding clamp (5) of CNC insulation taping Machine which
collides with taping head (9) was removed from its position through a
developed holding clamp (16) as shown in fig. (5)
2- This new developed clamp (16) holds the stator bar (10) at end (3)
without any change in position of stator bar (10) on CNC Taping Machine.
3- Only the position of Movable end-holding clamp (5) of CNC Taping
Machine is shifted so that the collision of taping head (9) is avoided.
4- This holding clamp (16) act as a bridge between the Stator bar end (3)
and Movable end-holding clamp (5) of CNC Taping Machine.
5- This holding clamp (16) makes the CNC Insulation taping M/C suitable for
Hydro Generator stator bars.
Detail of this new clamp (16) is shown in fig.4.
WE CLAIM
1. A method for insulation taping on hydrogenerator stator bars (10) on a
CNC insulating taping machine comprising;
removing end-holding clamp (5) of CNC insulation taping machine to avoid
collision with taping head;
implementing a holding clamp (16) in the position of removed end-holding
damp (5);
arranging the holding clamp (16) to act as a bridge between the stator
bar end (3) and movable end-holding clamp (5) of CNC taping machine
when the holding clamp (16) holds the stator bar (10) at end (3) without
any change of position of stator bar (10) on CNC tapping machine
wherein only the position of end-holding clamp (4) is fixed and position of
end-holding clamp (5) is adjusted so that the holding clamp (16) makes
the CNC insulation taping machine suitable for hydro generator stator bars
(10).
2. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the stator bar (10) is placed on
bar supports (6) and end of stator bar (3) is clamped with end holding
clamps (4) and (5) of CNC taping machine.
3. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the insulation tape is wrapped on
stator bar (10) by a rotating taping head (9).

ABSTRACT

taping on hydrogenerator stator bars (10). The clamp (16) is disposed to act as a
bridge between the stator bar end (3) and movable end holding clamp (5) of
