Abstract: 1. A mobile charging unit for a motor vehicle comprising a box for being rigidly fixed to the exterior of the body of the vehicle ; a lid for opening and closing the box, said lid being provided with a lock; an electric charger, with a fluorescent body, fitted inside and in one portion of the box, the other portion being available for use as a glove compartment or other storage compartment, said charger being connected to a source of electric power of the vehicle; a LED lamp placed within the box for being switched off and on when the lid is closed and opened; at least one LED fixed to the exterior of the box to visually indicate the beginning and end of charging.
This invention relates to a mobile charging unit for a motor vehicle, such as, for example, a scooter type motor vehicle. Needless to say, the said mobile charging unit also relates to other motor vehicles as well to which this invention is applicable.
The mobile charging unit is intended for use for electrically charging small articles of daily use, such as, cell phones, electric torches and so on, which the user may require from time to time.
In the known art, mobile chargers are fitted on the exterior of the vehicle and, consequently, are exposed to the elements, wind and rain, with attendant dust and mud. This exposure results in the malfunctioning of the mobile charger, ultimately leading to its total failure.
It is therefore an object of this invention to propose a mobile charger which is free from the above
mentioned drawbacks, to enable it to function efficiently over long periods of time.
The mobile charging unit for a motor vehicle, according to this invention, comprises a box for being rigidly fixed to the exterior of the body of the vehicle ; a lid for opening and closing the box, said lid being provided with a lock; an electric charger, with a fluorescent body, fitted inside and in one portion of the box, the other portion being available for use as a glove compartment, said charger being connected to a source of electric power of the vehicle; a LED lamp placed within the box for being switched off and on when the lid is closed and opened; one green LED fixed to the exterior of the box to visually indicate the beginning and end of charging.
This invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings which illustrate, by way of example, and not by way of limitation, one of
possible embodiments of the mobile charging unit proposed herein
Fig. 1 illustrating the box installed on the body of the vehicle with the lid closed
And
Fig. 2 illustrating the said box with its lid open.
A box B is rigidly fixed to the exterior of the body A of the vehicle. A lid L is provided for opening and closing the box B, said lid being provided with a lock D for preventing the box being opened by unauthorized persons. In the case of a motor vehicle such as a scooter the box can be conveniently installed in front of the rider on the front panel.
An electric charger C has a fluorescent body for easy identification. The said charger is fitted inside the box, in one portion E thereof, the other portion F of the box being available for use as a glove compartment or other storage compartment.
The charger is connected to a source of electric power of the vehicle, such as, the battery.
LED lamp J placed within the box switches off when the lid is closed and switches on when the lid is opened. This is achieved by a push button switch K placed near the hinge of the lid, enabling the lid when closed or opened to operate the said switch to go off or on. The purpose of the lamp is to illuminate the interior of the box when the lid is opened to enable the user to have a clear view of the interior of the box.
At least one LED connected to the mobile charger visually indicates from outside the vehicle - the beginning and end of charging. This LED is green in
colour and fixed to the exterior of the box, preferably, fixed to the instrument panel provided on the front side of the vehicle. The green LED glows intermittently signaling the charging and completion of charging of the mobile to enable the user, at any time, to ascertain as to whether charging is continuing or whether charging has been completed.
It will be appreciated from the foregoing description that other embodiments of this invention are possible without departing from the scope and ambit of this invention.
We Claim:
2. A mobile charging unit as claimed in Claim 1 wherein a push button switch is placed near the hinge of the lid, enabling the lid when closed or
opened to operate the said switch off or on for switching the LED lamp off or on.
3. A mobile charging unit as claimed in claim 1 or
claim 2, wherein the said LED is green in colour.
4. A mobile charging unit as claimed in any one of
the preceding Claims, wherein the said LED is
fixed to the instrument panel of the vehicle and
glows intermittently, signaling the charging and
completion of charging of the mobile.
5. A mobile charging unit for a motor vehicle
substantially as herein described and illustrated
with reference to the accompanying drawings.
