FIELD OF INVENTION
[001] The present disclosure relates to the field of cosmetics in general, and in particular discloses a moisturizing composition comprising high oil content.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[002] Maintaining skin moisture is essential to avoid skin damage and to prevent infections on the skin. The balance of moisture and nutrients ensures the overall health of the skin. Variation in moisture levels may lead to occurrence of skin problems like acne. A suitable skincare formulation help treats dry skin and prevents the possibility of any skin problems. The formulations help in retaining water and act as a barrier against any external reactions. The skincare formulations usually comprise occlusive, humectants, and emollients. Occlusive ingredients prevent water from being lost from the skin during exposure to harsh environments, humectants help skin cells to absorb water thus making the skin smoother and gives a wrinkle-free appearance, whereas emollients fill up the space between rough or peeling skin thus helps in smoothening the skin. The weight percentage of the ingredients is decisive to the overall sensory appeal and effectiveness of the skincare formulation.
[003] Skincare formulation comprising high oil content are preferred forms of
delivery since these are capable of percutaneous delivery of actives. There are well-known delivery systems such as water-in-oil emulsions. However, these emulsions tend to be mostly sticky, oily and lack sensorial appeal to consumers.
[004] US20070048235A1 discloses a moisturizing composition comprising an adduct of a vegetable oil and maleic anhydride in a weight percentage of 1 to 3% with respect to the composition.
[005] US6194364B1 discloses a personal cleansing emulsion composition containing a moisturizing phase and an aqueous cleansing phase.
[006] There is, therefore, a need felt in the art to devise oil-in-water emulsions that have high oil load content such that these can be sensorially more acceptable to consumers and have desired properties with respect to the shelf life.

ning,
[0019] Ratios, concentrations, amounts, and other numerical data may be presented herein in a range format. It is to be understood that such range format is used merely for convenience and brevity and should be interpreted flexibly to include not only the numerical values explicitly recited as the limits of the range but also to include all the individual numerical values or sub-ranges encompassed within that range as if each numerical value and sub-range is explicitly recited. For example, a ratio range of about 1:0.025 to 1:0.40 should be interpreted to include not only the explicitly recited limits of about 1:0.025 to about 1:0.40, but also to include sub-ranges, such as 1:0.070-1:0.10, 1:0.030-1:0.090, and so forth, as well as individual amounts, including fractional amounts, within the specified ranges, such as 1:0.070, and 1:0.031, for example. Example 1
Working ranges of various ingredients
[0067] The composition of the present disclosure comprises: (i) at least one emulsifier;
(ii) at least one thickener; and (iii) at least one oil, wherein the at least one emulsifier to
the at least one thickener has a weight ratio in a range of 1:0.025 to 1:0.40. Table 1
describes the working range of weight percentage of various ingredients with respect to
the total composition as disclosed for the composition of the present disclosure.
[0068] The present disclosure discloses the composition comprising high oil content. Therefore, the preferred weight percentage range of oil is 20-50% with respect to the composition. The present disclosure also discloses that the presence of high oil content was balanced by the addition of a small amount of thickener. Therefore, as per one of
the embodiments of the present disclosure, weight percentage range of the thickener is 0.15-2.2% with respect to the composition. The composition comprises emulsifier having a weight percentage in a range of 2-8% with respect to the composition. [0069] The oil that has been used for the purposes of exemplification is mineral oil, specifically, white mineral oil, however, other types of oil that have been disclosed also to be considered for use in the present composition. The preservatives used is at least one selected from a group consisting of phenoxyethanol, sodium benzoate, caprylyl glycol, methyl paraben, propyl paraben, and combinations thereof. The other excipients such as additives and fragrances used were as per the substances known well in the art for serving respective purposes in the composition.
Example 2
Working Examples
[0070] The present section provides support to the composition of the present
disclosure by mentioning two working examples depicted in Table 2.
Table 2:
[0071] Table 2 mentions the weight percentages of various ingredients that has been used in preparing working Example 1 and working Example 2. The working Examples have been evaluated on the basis of the following parameters: (i) stability; (ii) oily sticky feel; (iii) texture; (iv) moisturization; and (v) viscosity. The working Examples 1 and 2 differ in the type of thickener used in their preparation. The working Example 1
comprises 0.5% of acrylates/acrylamide copolymer (and) mineral oil (and) polysorbate-
85, whereas working Example 2 comprises 0.2% of ammonium
acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP copolymer. It can be appreciated that all the ingredients are
present within the working ranges in case of both the Examples, therefore are stable,
have no oily/sticky feel, and also effective in terms of the moisturization ability. As far
as texture of the compositions is considered, the working example 2 displays an
excellent superior texture, whereas the texture of the working example 1 is good.
Overall, it can be observed that both the working examples are stable in spite of high
oil contents and also provide effective moisturizing ability.
Example 3
Non-working example
[0072] The present section provides two non-working examples of the composition of
the present disclosure.
[0073] The non-working Examples NW-A and NW-B differ in the type of emulsifiers used in the preparation of the compositions. The absence of any thickener is the common feature among both the non-working examples. Both examples contain high oil content of 46% with respect to the composition. It can be appreciated that both the compositions are not stable and also have undesirable texture. It should be noted that in case of absence of any thickener, the composition with desirable features was not obtained. Therefore, the non-working examples justify the presence of different ingredients in the composition of the present disclosure.
[0074] NW-C comprises emulsifier and thickener in a weight ratio of 7.4/0.15 which is equal to 1:0.020. It can be appreciated that the ratio of emulsifier to thickener in case of NW-C falls beyond the disclosed weight ratio of 1:0.025 to 1:0.40. Therefore, it can
be concluded that since the weight ratio of emulsifier to thickener is not in accordance as per the disclosed range, the present example does not show desirable characteristics. [0075] NW-D comprises emulsifier and thickener in a weight ratio of 6.4/4 which is equal to 1:0.625. It can be appreciated that the ratio of emulsifier to thickener in case of NW-D falls beyond the disclosed weight ratio of 1:0.025 to 1:0.40. Therefore, it can be concluded that since the weight ratio of emulsifier to thickener is not in accordance as per the disclosed range, the present example does not show desirable characteristics. [0076] NW-E comprises cetearyl olivate (and) sorbitan olivate as an emulsifier. Although the weight ratio of emulsifier and thickener is within the disclosed range, because of the presence of a different emulsifier, NW-E does not show the desirable characteristics. NW-E was observed to be of compromised texture and not stable, therefore, the type of emulsifier which is a part of the composition of the present disclosure affects the sensorial.
Example 4
