A Motor Vehicle Structure With Unique Impact Energy Absorbing Capability
Abstract: This invention relates to motor vehicle structure for absorbing forces of impact and to provide better passenger safety. It consists of two parts, chassis - floor provided with grooves on which a " passenger shell" is movably disposed. Two paris of calipers are rotatably mounted on the chassis frame. Each pair of calipers extended from the point of mount to the front and rear pillars of the passenger shell of the motor vehicle. On impact forces of inertia moves the vehicle forward and backward in the grooves of the chassis floor. The calipers restrict such movements until the vehicle bocy comes to rest. Since the vehicle body alongwith its occupants move forward, the inertial forces which are felt by the passengers I greatly reduced. Hence increasing the safety of passengers and giving rise to a new class of vehicle body architecture.
