PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION
The following specification particularly describes the invention and the manner in which it is to be performed

FIELD OF INVENTION
The present invention relates to the lubrication system for an internal combustion engine, and more particularly to an integrated mounting arrangement for an oil cooler and an oil filter of the internal combustion engine in a preferred location on the cylinder block, and providing a passage for the lubricating oil to flow from cylinder block to the oil filter and the oil cooler.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The automotive internal combustion engines have high heat rejection rates, thus, it is necessary to cool the engine lubricating oil. This is sometimes accomplished by passing the oil through an air-to-oil heat exchanger which is mounted in the air stream flowing past the vehicle. Another technique is mounting a heat exchanger within the radiator of the vehicle so that coolant flowing through the radiator chills the oil passing through the heat exchanger. This is disadvantageous because such hoses increase the expense of the system as well as causing problems because of the fact that their mere presence requires additional space and packaging considerations within the engine compartment of the vehicle.
The modern day engine compartments are so cramped that the oil filter are usually mount in an inaccessible area. The limited space also force to use smaller capacity filters which ultimately lead to frequent replaced of the filters. Conventionally the filters are integrally mounted to cylinder block with or without using an adaptor wherein the filter is positioned in line with mounting axis. Most often this makes the location of the oil filter inaccessible and the replacing oil filters becomes cumbersome.
The US patent no. 4492632 proposes mounting the oil filters away from cylinder block to avoid limitation of space and accessibility. The patent describes about an

assembly for converting integrally mounted spin off or cartridge type oil filter to larger capacity externally mounted replaceable cartridge type oil filter. The assembly comprises a hollow cast adaptor housing having a centrally displaced threaded spindle and a radialy removed circular sealing member for permitting the sealed mounting of the cast adaptor member to an engine's existing spin off filter or cartridge filter receiving casting.
A pair of inlet and outlet ports and hoses couple oil from the engine to a large peripherally mounted, replaceable insert type cartridge filter receiving assembly. However, the arrangement has the disadvantages of usage of more number of components, a separate mounting arrangement for the oil filter and additional hoses for connecting to the filter.
Further the hoses are connected to the block through an adaptor. Usage of adaptor, separate hoses and mounting arrangement make the system complex in terms of number of parts used and compactness of the arrangement. This type of system also suffers from a major drawback as the hoses are subject to failure, with often catastrophic results if the driver of the vehicle does not stop the engine almost immediately.
Moreover, the hoses increase the expense of the system as well as causing problems because of the fact that their mere presence requires additional space and packaging considerations within the engine compartment of the vehicle.
With respect to the conventional mounting arrangement of oil filter and oil cooler, it is necessary to provide an improved mounting arrangement for the oil cooler and oil filter for an IC engine free from the above-mentioned disadvantages and the short comings involved in the conventional arrangements.

Therefore, it is necessary and desirable and advantages to have a system which overcomes the above difficulties with simple in construction, less number of parts, easily to fix and remove the filter and orienting the filter in a desired location to have easy accessibility and space.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
The main object of the present invention is to provide a mounting arrangement for oil filter and oil cooler, which is simple in construction, having less number of parts, and easily to fix and remove the filter.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a rigid structure for the mounting of the combination of oil cooler and oil filter and connection of this combination onto the cylinder block.
Another object of the present invention is to provide the direction to oil filter in suitable location as per the vehicle layout so that required accessibility and space is available.
Further object of this invention is to provide a passage for the lubricating oil to flow from the main gallery in the cylinder block into the oil cooler & filter and for the filtered with required temp drop in oil to flow back into the cylinder block.
Still further object of this invention is to provide an improved mounting arrangement having positional reference for the accurate location of the oil cooler on the engine.
Yet another object of this invention is to provide an integral location for the oil pressure switch from which the oil pressure signal is taken for vehicle dashboard indication.

Yet another object of this invention is to provide an improved mounting arrangement having flexibility in the design, manufacture and operation of internal combustion engines.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The present invention which achieves the objectives relates to an improved mounting arrangement for oil filter and oil cooler for an IC engine. The arrangement for an engine includes a cylinder block provided with internal oil lines to lubricating the internal rotating parts. A machined surface for mounting an oil filter is provided on the side wall of the cylinder block. Oil inlet and oil return lines in the main oil gallery are located on the machined surface to carry the oil from the cylinder block and back to the cylinder block.
An adaptor made of Aluminum High Pressure Die Cast is assembled with cylinder block. The adaptor has two angled faces respectively for attaching to the cylinder block and mounting an oil filter. The adaptor is assembled with the side wall of the cylinder block, such that the inlet passage and outlet passage on the attaching face of the adaptor mate with the inlet and outlet passages on the machined surface of the cylinder block.
The adaptor includes two concentric circular mounting flanges on which the combination of oil cooler and oil filter are mounted. The inner circular mounting flange has a threaded internal diameter on which a special threaded connecter made from steel is mounted. The other end of this adaptor is connected to the internal diameter of the oil filter. The oil cooler is mounted with its internal diameter located on the outer diameter of this threaded cylindrical connector.
A connector having through hole connecting the adaptor and the oil filter, such that the connector channellize the oil communication between the cylinder block and

the oil filter through the adaptor, and the oil filter is prevented from having direct contact with the side wall of the cylinder block. The oil cooler is secured between the adaptor and the oil filter, such that the oil cooler surrounds the connector and provide a circumferential passage for the oil flow to the oil filter and simultaneously cool the passing oil.
