Abstract: The present disclosure provides a mounting structure (300) on an air cleaner housing (108) for mounting a suction pipe (106) in automobile, the mounting structure (300) comprising an integrated portion (302) extend forward from the air cleaner housing (108); and an overhang portion (304) extend forward from front end (302-F) of the integrated portion (302), the overhang portion (304) comprises a plurality of pockets (304-P1, 304-P2) on top surface (304-T) of the overhang portion (304), a curved portion (304-C) extend forward from the front end (304-F) of the overhang portion (304); and a bolt-nut mounting hole (304-H) provided in between the front end of the overhang portion (304) and the plurality of pockets (304-P1, 304-P2). Description:A MOUNTING STRUCTURE ON AN AIR CLEANER HOUSING FOR MOUNTING A SUCTION PIPE IN AUTOMOBILE
TECHNICAL FIELD
[0001] The present disclosure in general relates to an integration between an air cleaner housing and a suction pipe. In particular, the present disclosure relates to a configuration of a structure integrated with an air cleaner housing and used for mounting a suction pipe in an automobile.
BACKGROUND
[0002] Automotive industry in India is one of the main pillars of the economy. With strong backward and forward linkages, it is a key driver of growth. In addition, automotive industry has always been known to be very competitive as far as its design and material usage are concerned. Therefore, the automotive industry is always facing greater market pressure to develop high quality products more quickly with different variants of a particular vehicle model in order to cater different segments of end users.
[0003] In general, an air cleaner are employed for cleaning the intake air that is supplied to the combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine for proper combustion of the fuel. The air cleaner includes a filter element and a housing having the filter element situated therein, with the housing having an inlet and an outlet section wherein the inlet section permits entry of air into the housing through a suction pipe and the outlet section allows a filtered air to flow into the engine.
[0004] Due to this reason, the outlet of the suction pipe is connected to the inlet of the air cleaner housing. In addition, there is also a need of an assembly that holds the suction pipe in position. Therefore, as per the requirement, the existing prior art related to this field of technology proposes an assembly 100 comprises two intermediate metal bracket 102, 104 welded at the center for supporting the suction pipe 106 as shown in FIG.1 in which first metal bracket 102 is mounted on the air cleaner 108 and the second metal bracket 104 is mounted on the cylinder block 110.
[0005] Through the above disclosure, it is clear that the suction pipe 106 is fully mounted on the engine body. Hence, the problem arises, when this suction pipe is mounted over the vehicle body having configuration different from the existing one, as the configuration of the vehicle is modified as per the requirement of different variants of a particular vehicle model in order to cater different segments of end users. As a result, the above mentioned problem increases the complexity of manufacturer while assembling the components near the engine of the automobile.
[0006] In addition, the above mentioned problem also compel the manufacturer to employ an assembly that in turn requires more no. of parts which makes the assembly complex.
[0007] Accordingly, there is a need of a structure having configuration that helps in easy mounting of a suction pipe in different variants of a particular vehicle model in order to cater different segments of end users.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
[0008] The primary objective of the present subject matter is to provide a mounting structure having configuration that helps in easy mounting of a suction pipe in different variants of a particular vehicle model in order to cater different segments of end users.
[0009] It is yet another objective of the present subject matter is to provide the mounting structure having enough strength and robustness.
[0010] It is further objective of the present subject matter is to provide the mounting structure having better load bearing capacity.
[0011] Furthermore, another objective of the present subject matter is to provide the mounting structure that leads to reduction of no. of parts and improves the overall space, leading to lesser complexity.

In accordance with an embodiment, the mounting structure comprising an integrated portion extend forward from the air cleaner housing; and an overhang portion extend forward from front end of the integrated portion , the overhang portion comprises a plurality of pockets on top surface of the overhang portion , a curved portion extend forward from the front end of the overhang portion ; and a bolt-nut mounting hole provided in between the front end of the overhang portion and the plurality of pockets .

[0022] To solve the problem, the present disclosure proposes an assembly 200 between a suction pipe 106, and an air cleaner housing 108 incorporating a mounting structure 300. The front view and top view of the assembly 200 are illustrated in FIG.2A, and FIG.2B.
[0023] In addition, this mounting structure 300 helps in achieving the goal of easy mounting of a suction pipe 106 in different variants of a particular vehicle model to cater different segments of end users. This mounting structure 300 mounts the suction pipe 106 via the bolt-nut mounting hole 304-H. Moreover, the mounting structure 300 along with the air cleaner housing 108 forms an integrated unit. Furthermore, the mounting structure 300 along with the air cleaner housing 108 is manufactured by means of blow moulding process.

[0026] The mounting structure 300 comprises an integrated portion 302 and an overhang portion 304. The integrated portion 304 extend forward from the air cleaner housing 108 and an overhang portion 304 extend forward from front end 302-F of the integrated portion 302.
[0027] The overhang portion 304 comprises a plurality of pockets 304-P1, 304-P2 on top surface 304-T of the overhang portion 304, a curved portion 304-C extend forward from the front end 304-F of the overhang portion 304 and a bolt-nut mounting hole 304-H provided in between the front end of the overhang portion 304 and the plurality of pockets 304-P1, 304-P2. The plurality of pockets 304-P1,304-P2 are adjacent to the integrated portion 302.

It further comprises the curved portion 304-C that includes a set of plurality of left side pockets 304-P3,304-P4 and a set of plurality of right side pockets 304-P5,304-P6 provided on the curved portion 304-C along height of the overhang portion 304.

ADVANTAGES
[0031] Due to the proposed mounting structure, a suction pipe is easy mounted in different variants of a particular vehicle model in order to cater different segments of end users. This in turn reduces development efforts like calibration, etc.
[0032] In addition, this mounting structure provides one fixed mounting point on air cleaner housing and a flexible mounting point at suction pipe side that in turn helps in reducing the assembling time. It also improves serviceability.
[0033] Moreover, due to increment in overhang portion in the mounting structure, the bending stress as well as the torsional stress on the mounting area reduces. This single mounting point with extension from the mounting point helps in shifting the parting line at the end that in turn reduces the stress arises in order to meet destructive torque of mounting.
[0034] Furthermore, due to the proposed mounting structure, the suction pipe opening directs towards the bumper opening which helps in achieving the optimum intake air temperature. This in turn helps in achieving the better water hammer performance as the distance between the bumper, and the suction pipe is increased.
[0035] In addition, the multiple grooves on the mounting structure increases the strength and robustness of the mounting structure. It further increases the load bearing capacity of the mounting structure. In addition, multiple grooves also lead to less blow holes in the material, which eventually increases the part rigidity. Moreover, the proposed mounting structure also leads to reduction of no. of parts and improves the overall space, leading to lesser complexity.

an integrated portion (302) extend forward from the air cleaner housing (108); and
an overhang portion (304) extend forward from front end (302-F) of the integrated portion (302), the overhang portion (304) comprises:
a plurality of pockets (304-P1, 304-P2) on top surface (304-T) of the overhang portion (304),
a curved portion (304-C) extend forward from the front end (304-F) of the overhang portion (304); and
a bolt-nut mounting hole (304-H) provided in between the front end of the overhang portion (304) and the plurality of pockets (304-P1, 304-P2).
2. The mounting structure (300) as claimed in claim 1, wherein a suction pipe (106) is mounted on the mounting structure (300) via the bolt-nut mounting hole (304-H).
3. The mounting structure (300) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the plurality of pockets (304-P1,304-P2) are adjacent to the integrated portion (302).
4. The mounting structure (300) as claimed in claim 4, wherein the overhang portion (304) tapers down from the front end (302-F) of the integrated portion (302) to the front end (304-F) of the overhang portion (304).
5. The mounting structure (300) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the curved portion (304-C) comprises a set of plurality of left side pockets (304-P3,304-P4) and a set of plurality of right side pockets (304-P5,304-P6) provided on the curved portion (304-C) along height of the overhang portion (304).
6. The mounting structure (300) as claimed in claim 5, wherein the set of plurality of left side pockets (304-P3,304-P4) and the set of plurality of right side pockets (304-P5,304-P6) are joined by a longitudinal rib (304-R) along height of the overhang portion (304).
7. The mounting structure (300) as claimed in claim 6, where the longitudinal rib (304-R) extend from the top surface (304-T) to the bottom surface (304-B).
8. The mounting structure (300) as claimed in claim 1, wherein a notch profile (304-N1,304-N2) is provided in between the curved portion (304-C) and the front end (304-F) of the overhang portion (304) at both sides.
9. The mounting structure (300) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the mounting structure (300) along with the air cleaner housing (108) forms an integrated unit.
10. The mounting structure (300) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the mounting structure (300) along with the air cleaner housing (108) is manufactured by means of blow moulding process.
