Abstract: The present invention relate to a multipurpose air compressor for catering functions of loco-motion, including operating the horn and windscreen wiper which is operated by means of a single energy efficient pure air compressor mode. This air compressor also caters other pneumatically operated gadgets in the loco/wagon/rakes and will have the foot print, drive system and other parameters similar to that of the expressor so that the retrofitting is done easily without any major modifications/alternations what so ever on the existing loco and also ensure, that most of the existing spare of the expressor are interchangeable with the developed pure air compressor to avoid fresh inventory of spares and utilization of existing spares in stores. The a multipurpose air compressor for catering function of loco- motion, including operating the horn and windscreen wiper comprising of a two stage reciprocation compressor of V - form having a rank shaft, a crank case, cylinders and other technical parameters similar to that of the compressed air part of the expressor, can produce compressed air of 100 cfm FAD at a working pressure of 140 Psi and installed inside space of the Loco by replacing of the existing expressor. The improved air compressor is provided with 2 cylinder in V-form which have less number of reciprocating component which undergo heavy wear and tear and more space available for easy and proper maintenance.
FIELD OF THE INVENTION:
The present invention relates to a compressor, more particularly the present invention relates to a multipurpose air compressor for catering functions of loco-motion, including operating the horn and windscreen wiper.
BACK GROUND OF THE INVENTION:
For year back Indian Railways started to change its wagon fleet from vacuum brake system to air brake system. In general, every locomotive is provided with air cum vacuum brake system. For air cum vacuum brake system, the locomotive is provided a expressor for braking purpose which includes a compressor as well as vacuum mechanism. Gradually with the withdrawal of vacuum mechanism in locomotives operation, still the engine power is consumed in operating the vacuum mechanism which is the wastage of engine power. To overcome this power wastage, an emphasized is made for installation of a suitable compressor so that the unutilized rated capacity of existing expressor can be replaced specially after ceasesion of vacuum brakes. The necessary alternation and modification of parts inter-aiia related to both air and vacuum system has been developed

so that one driving mode can able to operate the bracing system in tne engine well as the brake meehasing in attached wagons.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION:
It is therefore, an object of the present invention to propose a multipurpose air compressor for catering functions of loco-motion, including operating the horn and windscreen wiper, which eliminates the disadvantages of prior art.
Another object of the present invention is to propose a multipurpose air compressor for catering functions of loco-motion, including operating the horn and windscreen wiper, which creates no disturbance in the dynamics of loco superstructure and bogie.
A still another object of the present invention is to propose a multipurpose air compressor for catering functions of loco-motion, including operating the horn and windscreen wiper where the new device can be retrofitted easily in the existing place of express.
A yet another object of the present invention is to propose a multipurpose air compressor for catering functions of loco-motion,

A further object of the present invention is to propose a multipurpose air compressor for catering functions of loco-motion, including operating the horn and windscreen wiper which consumes less fuel.
A still further object of the present invention is to propose a multipurpose air compressor for catering functions of loco-motion, including operating the horn and windscreen wiper which provides enough space inside loco for easy maintenances with low maintence cost.
An yet further object of the present invention is to propose a
multipurpose air compressor for catering functions of loco-motion,
including operating the horn and windscreen wiper which consumes
less lubricating oil.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION:

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION:
As show in Fig 2 and 6, a multipurpose air compressor for catering functions of loco-motion, including operating the horn and windscreen wiper comprising of a reciprocating Compressor of V-form, having a crank shaft (2), a crank case (1) a plurality of cylinders (5,8) and cylinder head (7) a air intake strainer (8), a lube oil pump with gear (10), a oil pressure indicator value (12), a inter cooler (14) and a cooling fan (15) and other accessories for capable of generating compressed air of 100 cfm FAD at a working pressure of 140 Psi and installed in same inner space of the loco by replacing the existing Expresser without any modification of previous base plate structural of Expresser. This will keep the dynamics of loco superstructure and bogie unchanged.
The compressor device specially developed to meet the high volume

of air requirement with moderate pressure, to be used In Diesel Locomotive. The compressed air generated are catered to the pneumatic brake system of the Loco and to the pneumatic brake line attached with each wagon assembled In a railway rake. The compressed air is also used for horns and windscreen wipers of the locomotive.
The compressor (24) package is shown in fig. - 2. It consists of two sets of cylinders (5,6) and cylinder heads, (33,34) one pair for 1st stage (low pressure) and one pair for 2fl(1 stage (high pressure) fitted in a V form on a crank case (i). The crank case (1) houses the crank shaft (2) and connecting rod (16) assembly which receives and converts circular motion in to reciprocating motion. The drive is taken from the Engine (27).
Low pressure cylinder head (33) is fitted with air intake strainer (8) assembly. Cylinder head (33) has two inlet and two discharge valves of LP and HP cylinders heads (34) are equipped with suction unloader. An Intercooler (14) is provided between stages and after cooler
8 connecting HP cylinder head (34) to the air receiver.
A gear drive lube oil pump (10) is positioned inside the crank case (I) for lubricating all the moving parts. The oil pump (10) circulates oil under pressure. Drive is taken from the crankshaft (2) by means of a set. of gears with an idler; to pump the oil through the system. It is also provided with oil pressure indicator valve (19) oil pressure relief valve, a breather (13) and oil level indicator and safety valves (20). A dynamically balanced fan (15) is fitted on the other end of the crank shaft (2) for cooling the Compressor (24).

- the crank case (1) houses the crank shaft (2) and a

the compressor (24) comprises at least two low pressure zone in first stage and at least two High Pressure zone in second stage fitted in a 'V' form on a crank case (1);

2. The device as claimed in claim 1, wherein low pressure cylinder
head (33) is fitted with a air intake strainer (8) assembly.
3. The device as claimed in claim I, wherein low pressure cylinder
head (33) has two inlet and two discharge value of LP.
4. The device as claimed in claim 1, wherein High Pressure
cylinder heads (34) are equipped with a suction unloader.
5. The device as claimed in claim 1, wherein an intercooler (14) is
provided in between two zones and an after cooler connecting
High Pressure cylinder head (34) to the air receiver.
6. The device as claimed in claim 1, wherein a gear device lube oil
pump (10) is positioned inside the crank case (1) for lubricating
all tiie moving parts under pressure.

the compressor (24).
10. The device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the compressor
air generated are catered to the pneumatic brake system of the
loco and to the pneumatic brake line attached with each wagon
assembled In a railway rake through connecting means.
11. The device as claimed in claim 1, wherein compressor air is
used for horns and wind screen wipers of the locomotive.
12. The energy saving braking device in locomotive adoptabie
in railway rake as substantially described and Illustrated herein
with reference to accompanying drawings.
