Abstract: A new check rail with new check rail bracket arrangement used at level crossing and curved section of rail track comprises: a new check rail(2) and a new check rail bracket(4) ; wherein the new check rail is horizontally fixed on the new check rail bracket so that the rail head of the new check rail is parallel to the flange of the running rail(l) and the width of new check rail foot(14) is same as that of the rail head of the new check rail; the profile of the side edges(ll, 12) of the top surface of the check rail bracket is such that it matches with the fishing planes(9) of the new check rail.
The present invention relates to a new check rail with new
check rail bracket arrangement used at level crossing and curved
section of rail track.
In the prior art, a check rail is fitted to a check rail
bracket which is fixed on the concrete sleeper by plate screws
tightened into dowel casted in the concrete sleeper. Check rails
are made by cutting rail at the web and providing a double dee
hole for fixing the check rail vertically to the check rail
bracket by means of bolt and nut such that the check rail is
parallel to the rail flange of the running rail. The said bolt
and nut is covered by cast iron distance piece placed inbetween
the check rail and running rail so that it maintains a fixed
distance between the running rail and check rail bracket.
Disadvantage of this arrangement is that the check rail
develops stresses due to cutting at the web and also causes
bending of the check rail thereby resulting in breakage of check
rai 1.
The object of the present invention is to provide a new
check rail and new check rail bracket arrangement for supporting
the new check rail which is much stronger than the one used in
prior art.
In the present invention, there is provided a new check rail
and new check rail bracket arrangement for use at level crossing
and curved section of railway track.
The new check rail foot is such that the width of the new
check rail root is same as that of the head of the new check rail
and provided with double dee holes in the web of the new check
rail. The new check rail bracket is made of cast iron. The new
check rail is fitted at the top surface of the new check rail
bracket by means of galvanized high tensile bolt through the
double dee holes provided in the web of new check rail and the
hole provided in the said top surface . The new check rail
bracket is fitted to the concrete sleeper by a pair of plate
screw alongwith single coil spring washer. The profile of the new
check rail bracket is such that top surface is supported by the
side walls and prevents top surface from bending.
According to the present invention there is provided :

wherein the new check rail is horizontally fixed on the new check
rail bracket so that the rail head of the new check rail is
parallel to the flange of the running rail and the width of the
rail foot is same as that of the rail head of the new check rail;
the profile of the side edges of the top surface of the check
rail bracket is such that it matches with the fishing planes of
the new check rail.

In the present invention the new check rail(2) is fitted to
the new check rail bracket(4) such that a predetermined gap
between new check rail head and running rail(l) is maintained at
the curved section and level crossing of the rail track.
The running rail(l) is fixed to concrete sleeper(8) by means
of MCI insert(16) and elastic rail clip(17) with a liner(18)
inbetween the rail(l) foot and elastic rail clip. A grooved
rubber sole plate(15) placed inbetween the rail(l) and concrete
sleeper<8). A pair of threaded dowels(7) is cast in the concrete
sleeper(8) for fixing the new check rail bracket on the concrete
sleeper. In new check rail(2) the rail foot is such that the
width of the new check rail foot(14) is same as that of the head
of the new check rail. Double dee holes(19) are provided in the
web(20) of the new check rail. New check rail bracket(4) as shown
in Fig.3 is made out of cast iron with a bottom surface
comprising holes through which plate screw(6) together with
single coil spring washer(5) is inserted into the dowel(7) for
tightening the new check rail bracket on the concrete sleeper(8).
The upper surface of the new check rail bracket is provided with
a threaded hole(10) and new check rail is fixed horizontally on
the said upper surface by means of galvanised high tensile
bolt(3) inserted through the double dee hole(19) and the said
hole(10). The edges(ll,12) of the top surface of the new check
rail bracket is so machined that it matches with the profile of
the fishing planes(9) of the new check rail. The height of the
new check rail bracket is such that after fixing the new check
rail, the top surface of new check rail should not be more than
the height of the running rail. The new check rail is arranged
horizontally on the top surface of the new check rail bracket so
that the head surface of the new check rail is parallel to the
flange of the running rail as shown in Fig. 2.
Although the invention has been described with reference to
the preferred embodiment, it will be readily appreciated by those
of ordinary skill in the art that many modifications and
adaptation of the invention are possible without departure from
the scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.

at level crossing and curved section of rail track as claimed in
claim 1, wherein the new check rail comprises double dee
holes(19) in the web(20) of the new check rail.
4. A new check rail with new check rail bracket arrangement used
at level crossing and curved section of rail track as claimed in
claim 1, wherein the new check rail is fixed on new check rail
bracket by galvanized high tensile bolt(3) inserted through the
threaded hole(10) on the top surface of the new check rail
bracket.
5. A new check rail with new check rail bracket arrangement used
at level crossing and curved section of rail track as claimed in
claim 1, wherein the new check rail bracket is fixed on the
concrete sleeper(8) by inserting plate screw(6) together with
single coil spring washer(5) through the holes provided at the
base of the new check rail bracket and tightening into the
dowel(7) casted in the concrete sleeper.
6. A new check rail with new check rail bracket arrangement used
at level crossing and curved section of rail track substantially
as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying
drawings.
