Abstract: A novel bacterial species of genus Paracoccus and production of carotenoid pigments therefrom using a novel culture media. A novel bacterial species being a local soil isolate to produce biologically active carotenoids such as astaxanthin, βcarotene, canthaxanthin, α-carotene etc. that are accumulated in the cells and a novel medium for the production of carotenoids by culturing this locally isolated bacterial strain. The novel bacterial strain is identified as belonging to the Paracoccus sp. based on biochemical characterization and is hereinafter referred to in the patent as "ABCC001" (having depository Accession No. MTCC 52481)
