Abstract: This invention relates to a novel composition for treatment of Gingivitis comprising 52-66% by weight of Katha Sokhta (Acacia catechu wild) seeds, 12-38% by weight of Mazu (Quercus infectoria Olive) seeds, 2.5-11.5% by weight of Filfil-e-Siyah (Piper nigrum Linn) and 7-15% by weight of Namal-e-Toam (Common salt). A process of preparation of the novel composition consisting of finely powdering Katha sokhta (Acacia catechu wild) seeds , Mazu (Quercus infectoria Olive) seeds, Filfil-e-siyah (Piper nigrum Linn) and Namak-e-Toam (Common salt) each separately, followed by thoroughly mixing the ingredients in the form of paste and finally dried.
FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates to a novel composition for curing Gingivitis and a process for its preparation.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Gingivitis (Warm-e-Lissa) is a common problem caused by dental plaque. It is the inflammation of the gingival or the gums caused by dental plaque, material alba and calculus. The inflammation caused by such local irritants gives rise to associated degenerative, necrotic and proliferative changes in the gingival tissues. Various chemicals and medicines are used for the treatment of gingivitis like Chlorhexidine, Iodine, Alum and Listerine, etc., as a mouth wash and in ointment form. However, though these medicines give a good response, they cannot be used for long durations because of their toxic effects on effects on the oral mucosa. These medicines sometimes produce allergy and disturb the ecology of the oral cavity, which further causes severe inflammation leading to ulceration. Unani preparations are usually side effect free and hence this preparation was tested for efficacy against gingivitis.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
The object of the present invention is to provide a synergistic composition that is effective and safe for the treatment of Gingivitis as compared to the commercially available medicines.
It is also an object to provide a synergistic composition for the effective and safe treatment of Gingivitis that can be used over a longer period of time without causing and toxicity.
It is further an object of the invention to provide a method for preparation of a synergistic composition to treat gingivitis.
STATEMENT OF INVENTION
According to this invention, there is provided a novel composition for curing Gingivitis comprising 52-66% by weight of Katha Sokhta (Acacia catechu wild) seeds, 12-38% by weight of Mazu (Quercus infectoria Olive) seeds, 2.5-11.5% by weight of Filfil-e-Siyah (Piper nigrum Linn) and 7-15% by weight of Namak-e-Toam (Common salt).
Further according to this invention there is provided a process for preparation of composition for curing of Gingivitis comprising steps of powdering of Katha Sokhta (Acacia catechu wild) seeds, Mazu (Quercus infectoria Olive) seeds, Filfil-e-Siyah (Piper nigrum Linn) and Namak-e-
Toam (Common salt) each separately to extraction followed by drying prior to mixing, preparation of a paste followed by drying.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The present invention provides a process for preparation of novel composition for the treatment of Gingivitis comprising:
1. Katha Sokhta (Acacia catechu wild) seeds - 55-70%
2. Mazu (Quercus infectoria Olive) seeds - 15-40%
3. Filfil-e-Siyah (Piper nigrum Linn) and - 03-12%
4. Namak-e-Toam (Common salt) - 7-15%
The process consisting of powdering each ingredient separately to a fine powder followed by drying.
Prior to mixing, the extraction of Mazu seeds is done using for example 30% alcohol-water mixture followed by drying. The salt is dissolved in deionised water and all the ingredients are mixed thoroughly in the form of a paste followed by drying. The drying of all the ingredients except Namak-e-Toam is carried out till the total moisture content is not more than 5% w/w, which normally takes approximately 4 hours in which the drying is done at 105-110°C in a dry air oven.
Table 1: Age-wise Response
(Table Removed)
Table 2: Grade-wise Response (Table Removed)
Table 3: Duration of Treatment and Response (Table Removed)
Thus, the Unani preparation is very effective and devoid of side effects as compare to the commercially available medicines.
The mean Gingival score before treatment was 58.08 ±15.90 and after treatment it was 16.88±18.59. The difference was found statistically significant i.e. the drug was highly effective in reducing inflammation and bleeding in the case of Gingivitis.
WE CLAIM:
1. A novel composition for curing Gingivitis comprising 52-66% by weight of Katha Sokhta (Acacia catechu wild) seeds, 12-38% by weight of Mazu (Quercus infectoria Olive) seeds, 2.5-11.5% by weight of Filfil-e-Siyah (Piper nigrum Linn) and 7-15% by weight of Namak-e-Toam (Common salt).
2. A process for preparation of composition for curing of Gingivitis comprising steps of:
- powdering of Katha Sokhta (Acacia cathechu wild) seeds, Mazu (Quercus infectoria Olive) seeds, Filfil-e-Siyah (Piper nigrum Linn) and Namak-e-Toam (Common salt) each separately to extraction followed by drying prior to mixing,
- preparation of a paste followed by drying.
3. A process as claimed in claim 2 wherein Katha Sokhta is 55-70% by weight, Mazu extract is 15-40% by weight, Filfil Siyah is 03-12% by weight and Namak-e-Toam is 7-15% by weight.
4. A process as claimed in claim 2 or 3 wherein the drying is carried out at 105-110°C till the moisture content is maximum upto 5% w/w except in case of Namak-e-Toam.
