Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel system for diesel engine to improve performance and emission comprising of an idler gear connected to electro magnet, which is controlled by an electronic control unit (ECU) provided in connection with RPM sensor and throttle position sensor.
FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates to a novel system for diesel engine to improve
performance and emission. This is achieved with the help of variable injection
timing.
BACKGROUND/PRIOR ART OF THE INVENTION
As it is known diesel engine causes emission necessitating diesel engines with
least possible emissions.
Injection timing in a diesel engine plays a very effective and major role in
achieving better performance of the engine. It also affects the formation of
undesirable particles in combustion like NOx etc. In a common rail engine the
injection timing is programmed to be varying for achieving both better
performance and emissions. However, while using mechanical pump the
processing is very difficult on a running engine.
Hence, it is required to develop a novel system for diesel engine to improve
performance and emission so as to obtain the required flexibility in timing in a
inline mechanical pump to achieve better performance emission on a running
engine.
In existing diesel engines the amounts of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons,
oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and particulate matter are measured in ppm, which is
converted to g/KWh. These values are compared with emission norms set by
the government. For tractors parameters are measured at 8 points-at rated
RPM 4 points are taken(ful1 load,75% of full load,50% of full load,lO% of full
load),at peak torque RPM 3 points are taken(ful1 load,75% of full load,50% of
full load),at low idle speed 1 point is taken at no load. For car engines 13 points
are taken whereas for genset engines 5 points are taken. The same is indicated
hereinbelow: -

OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
The primary object of the present invention is to provide a novel system for
diesel engine to improve performance and emission which overcomes
disadvantages associated with the prior art.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a novel system for diesel
engine to improve performance of engine on different rpm and loads.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a novel system for
diesel engine to improve performance and emission which is reliable and
efficient.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a novel system for
diesel engine to improve performance and emission which is cost effective.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent from
the ensuing description when read in corljunction with the accompanying
drawings and wherein:
Figure 1 shows: Block diagram of the present invention.
Figure 2 and 3 shows: LHS and RHS of novel system for diesel engine to
improve performance and emission according to
present invention.
SUMMARY OF INVENTION
According to this invention, there is provided a novel system for diesel engine
to improve performance and emission comprising of an idler gear connected to
electro magnet, which is controlled by an electronic control unit (ECU) provided
in connection with RPM sensor and throttle position sensor.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION WITH REFERENCE TO THE
ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
This invention discloses a novel system for diesel engine to improve
performance and emission. Reference may be made to fig. 1, wherein said
system comprising of an idler gear (1) connected to electro magnet (2), which is
controlled by an electronic control unit (ECU) (3) provided in connection with
RPM sensor (4) and throttle position sensor (5) as shown.
Further, the control unit is provided with power back up by means of a battery
(6).
The gear hub also contains a permanent magnet (9) in same pole as
electromagnet (2) as indicated in fig. 2.
The ECU is programmed to control the electromagnet for different position of
TPS at different RPM. Therefore, when suitable inputs from the sensors is given
to the ECU, it operates the electromagnet & when both magnets get the same
pole it makes the Idler gear to move forward and vice versa. As the IDLER gear
(1) is having the helical threads, hence the forward and backward movement of
gear changes the injection timing which leads to improved performance and
helps in achieving the emissions.
Now reference may be made to fig. 2 and 3.
The timing gear housing (T) accommodating a plurality of gears is provided
with a timing gear cover (8) to prevent engine oil from splashing into the gear
housing.
Further according to the invention there is provision of a metallic strip (M) such
as copper strip which is provided in contact with the gear as shown on its one
side. So that it can supply electricity to the electromagnets. This is located
below the electromagnet/permanent magnet. Roller bushes (R) are available for
helping in rotation of gears as commonly provided.
Thus with the help of above provision injection timing can be changed. This
results in improved performance and achievement of the desired emissions.
It is to be noted that the present invention is susceptible to modifications,
adaptations and changes by those skilled in the art. Such variant embodiments
employing the concepts and features of this invention are intended to be within
the scope of the present invention, which is further set forth under the
following claims: -
