PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION
The following specification particularly describes the invention and the manner in which it is to be performed.
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to a novel wheel. Particularly this invention relates to a wheel of a novel construction for use in the rolling stock.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The steel rail to steel wheel mode of transportation has evolved over the years and today the need of such mode of transportation has been applied to mass rapid transport systems with very narrow curves. Due to the narrow / steeper curves, wear effect on the wheels have increased and therefore maintainability of the rolling stock has increased.
Therefore, there is a need to modify the profile of the steel wheel so as to minimize the wear effects on the wheel.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
Therefore an object of the present invention is to provide a wheel of a novel construction for rolling stocks which obviates the disadvantages associated with the conventional wheel.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a wheel of a novel construction for rolling stocks capable to reduce wear effects thereon and thus to increase the life of the wheel.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a wheel of a novel construction for rolling stocks such that the flange contact on the rail happens at a lesser rate in narrow curves.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
According to this invention there is provided a novel wheel comprising a flange 1 integrally provided at inner side 2 of the rim 3 of a wheel 4, plurality of regions A, B and C being provided between the flange 1 and rim 3 of the wheel 4, radius R being provided in the region A with respect to region B such that to provide smooth transition during running of the rolling stock.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
A novel wheel according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention is herein described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1, illustrates a perspective view of a portion of a novel wheel of the present invention,
Figure 2, illustrates profile graph of the wheel,
Figure 3, illustrates sectional view of the wheel,
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
A novel wheel is herein described with numerous specific details so as to provide a complete understanding of the invention. However these specific details are exemplary details and should not be treated as the limitation to the scope of the invention. Throughout this specification the word “comprise” or variations such as “comprises or comprising”, will be understood to imply the inclusions of a stated element, integer or step, or group of elements, integers or steps, but not the exclusions of any other element, integer or step or group of elements, integers or steps.
Referring to the drawings, particularly figure 1, a novel wheel according to this invention comprises a flange 1 integrally provided at inner side 2 of the rim 3 of a wheel 4. The rim 3 is integrally provided with the wheel web 5 provided with a central hole for accommodating a bearing therewith. Plurality of regions, for example, A, B and C are provided between the flange 1 and rim 3 of the wheel 4. Radius R is provided in the region A with respect to region B and till the slope 6. The slop 6 is provided between the regions A and B for smooth transition during running of the rolling stock.
In one embodiment radius R is increased by 8 – 12 times so as to get smooth flow and also to achieve rolling radius difference. Also, radius R1, provide in the region C has a smooth flow moving inwards to the curve provided in the region B, is equal to 10 * R, wherein R is the radius provided in the region B. The curves provided in the regions A and B are connected with each other with a sufficient slope.
The benefit of this type of wheel construction is that when the railway wheels 4 enter in narrow curves, before rubbing, the tendency of wheels moving towards the tread is there and hence reduction in wheel wear is there.
Certain features of the invention have been described with reference to the exemplary embodiments. However, the description is not intended to be construed in a limiting sense. Various modifications of the exemplary embodiments as well as other embodiments of the invention, which are apparent to the persons skilled in the art to which the invention pertains, are deemed to lie within the spirit and scope of the invention.
,CLAIMS:We Claim:
1. A novel wheel comprising a flange 1 integrally provided at inner side 2 of the rim 3 of a wheel 4, plurality of regions A, B and C being provided between the flange 1 and rim 3 of the wheel 4, radius R being provided in the region A with respect to region B such that to provide smooth transition during running of the rolling stock.
2. The novel wheel as claimed in claim 1, wherein radius R is provided till slope 5 provided between the regions A and B.
3. The novel wheel as claimed in claim 1, further comprising radius R1, provide in the region C has a smooth flow moving inwards to a curve provided in the region B.
4. The novel wheel as claimed in claim 1, wherein radius R1 is equal to 10 * R, wherein R is the radius provided in the region B.
