Specification

The present invention relates to a pop up pitcher which can be used for storing
water as well as other drinks as per the requirement.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION;
Earlier, people used to cook and store foods and water in metal wares and used to
derive mineral value (minerals like copper, silver, iron etc.) to enrich water or food.
In India copper was used to sterilize drinking water 2600 and 2200 B.C. It is still
used in many households for storing water.
Traditionally Indians (Asian) used to store water in Copper wares. Copper is
considered an essential mineral for our body. Earlier water supply used to be
through copper pipes and taps and its anti-microbial properties were observed.
Ayurveda recommends storing water overnight in a copper jug and drinking the
same in the morning keeps good health. The water stored this way is called 'Tamra
Jal' (copper water). Ayurveda reckons Copper jug water to balance all the three
doshas (Body humors- Kapha Vata and Pitta) and get rid of Piles, skin diseases,
inflammation, respiratory disorders, spleen and gynaecological disorders.
Article published in journal of Health, Population and Nutrition (J Health Popul
Nutr. 2012 March; 30(1): 17-21.) suggests that after 16 hours, there was a slight
increase in the pH of water from 7.83 to 7.93 in the copper pots while the other
I physicochemical parameters remained unchanged. Copper content (177±16 ppb) in
j
I water stored in copper pots was well within the permissible limits of the World
Health Organization. Copper holds promise as a point-of-use solution for microbial
purification of drinking-water, especially in developing countries.
2
Copper water can be prepared in two ways. First, fill a clean copper vessel with
water or alternatively you can use a glass or plastic vessel or and add copper scrap,
copper wire bundle etc so that water absorbs copper. When copper dissolves in
water, water becomes ionic (electrolyte) as can be ascertained by its pH
measurement. That is the reason the micro-organisms get killed in such water.
Storing for more period causes no harm, as concentration of ions gets saturated.
However, if the vessel is made of copper then it can be used for only storing water,
not other drinks such as soft drink, juices, hot drink, and milk because of the
reactive nature of copper.
If the copper scrap or copper wire bundle is used that there may be chances that
person gulps the piece of copper with water while drinking it and creates health
issues for himself
OBJECT OF INVENTION:
To invent a pop up pitcher in which copper water for drinking can be prepared.
To invent a pitcher which can be used for storing water as well for other drinks
such as soft drink, juices, hot drink, and milk etc.
To invent a pitcher for storing drinking water and other drinks, which is safe and
convenient in use.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION;
3
-
The invention is directed towards a pop up pitcher where in the pitcher comprises
of main body which has upper part and lower part, separated by neck portion ; and
removable hollow copper ball, which can be inserted or removed from the main
body as per the requirement. In the invention, to secure the hollow copper ball in
main body, rubber stopper is provided. The upper part is provided with a beak for
easy pouring of water or drinks. Also, to secure the drink from dust and other
impurities, upper part is provided with top cover, which works as tumbler to drink
water and lid to cover the pitcher.
DETAILS OF DRAWINGS:
FIG - 1: Perspective view of pop up pitcher
FIG - 2: First step of insertion of hollow copper ball inside main body
FIG - 3: Second step of insertion of hollow copper ball inside main body
FIG- 4: Third step of insertion of hollow copper ball inside main body I
FIG - 5: shows that the water is completely filled in the pitcher
FIG- 6: shows that the water is poured in to the tumbler
i
j DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION;
i
The invention comprises of main body (1) which has upper part (2) and lower part
(3). separated by neck portion (4) . The upper part is provided with beak (5) for
easy pouring of water or drinks. The advantage of pitcher lies in removable hollow
I copper ball (6), which can be inserted or removed from the main body (1) as per the
requirement.
4
If person wants to store drinking water, then the hollow copper ball is inserted
from open bottom of lower part; and to trap the ball inside the main body, rubber
stopper (7) is fitted in the lower part (3) of main body (1). Figures 2, 3 and 4
explain this process. Figure 2 shows that the main body (1) is inverted so that the
open bottom of lower part can be seen clearly. Now the hollow copper ball (6) is
inserted in the open bottom of the lower part (figure 3), the ball falls freely and
rests on the neck. Figure 4 shows that rubber stopper (7) is fitted in the lower part
(3) of main body (1) by the pressure of thumb to secure the hollow copper ball in
the main body; now the main body is inverted so that rubber stopper (7) works as
base of pitcher.
Now to prepare water enriched with the qualities of copper, nornial water is filled
inside the main body of pitcher from upper part. The water is kept in pitcher for a
period of time, as the water is in constant contact of copper ball, it becomes 'Tamra
Jar(copper water) . Ayurveda reckons 'Tamra Jal' to balance all the three doshas
(Body humors- Kapha Vata and Pitta) and get rid of Piles, skin diseases,
inflammation, respiratory disorders, spleen and gynaecological disorders.
Figure 5 show s that, when the water is completely filled in the pitcher, the copper
ball rises up. As ball reaches the neck of the pitcher, the ball closes the neck,
indicating the user, the maximum level of water that can be filled has been reached.
Figure 6 shows that, when the water is poured in to the tumbler, the ball shifts from
its position to allow the water to pour out.
5

Another advantage of invention is that, same pitcher can be used for drinking
copper water (with hollow copper ball) and for other drinks which may be reactive
with copper metal (without copper ball).
When user wants to store other drinks (such as soft drinks, juices, hot drink, and
milk; reactive with copper ball) then hollow copper ball can be kept aside by
removing the rubber stopper (7); again the rubber stopper is fitted to prepare the
pitcher for holding the drink.
To save the water from dust and other impurities, top cover (8) is provided which
works as tumbler to drink water and lid to cover the pitcher.
I
The pitcher is made of such metal which is non-reactive with water and other
drinks.
In the foregoing specification, the invention has been described with reference to
specific embodiments thereof It will, however, be evident that various
modifications and changes may be made thereto without departing from the broader
spirit and scope of the invention. The specification and drawings are, accordingly,
to be regarded in an illustrative rather than a restrictive sense.
