PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION
The following specification particularly describes the invention and the manner in
which it is to be performed.

FIELD OF INVENTION
The present invention is related to power windows used in automotive applications and more particularly it relates to a power window operating system with manual override mechanism.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
Currently majority of the cars in the developed or developing world have power window and central locking system as standard features in the vehicle. The power windows operate electrically to open or close the window of vehicle. The power window facilitates the convenience to the customer or occupant of the vehicle which customers prefers to have in their cars. There is an intrinsic safety hazard in accident situations. In case of accident situations or electrical failure, the customers may not be able to open the window and in some cases even the door. There have been cases in India of people being trapped inside their cars during flood, fire and accident situations, which have been proved fatal.
In order to address the above disadvantages, window with manual override mechanism is developed which is low in cost and simple to operate.
The existing power window mechanism consists of a mechanical system of moving the window up and down driven by a steel wire through a pulley. The pulley is rotated using a motor which is operated by the user through a switch in the passenger cabin. The drive from motor to pulley is through a worm gear mechanism. For the manually operating the mechanism the electric drive train has to be first disconnected from the system and then the manual override system can be engaged.
In order to have a low cost manual override function in this kind of a setup, it was decided to drive the existing motor shaft rather than having an expensive electromagnetic clutch system.
2

The mechanism for manual override function is only activated when the electrical failure occurs, and is non operational during normal operating conditions of the power window.
OBJECTS OF INVENTION
The main object of the present invention is to provide a power window operating system with manual override mechanism.
Another object of the present invention is to a provide power window operating system with manual override mechanism which allows the user of the automobile to operate the window even in cases of electrical failure.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a power window operating system with manual override mechanism which provides a safety feature to enable the user to escape from an accidental vehicle.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a power window operating system with manual override mechanism which simple in construction and cost effective.
Still another object of the present invention is to provide a power window operating system with manual override mechanism which uses only mechanical system and does not use a magnetic clutch system.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION
In accordance with the present invention, a power window operating system with manual override mechanism, said power window operating system comprises ; a

Motor (1) for providing power to power window, drive housing (2) for accommodating drive system and manual override assembly(9).
Said drive housing comprises; spur gear drive (3) which is engaged with worm gear (4) provided on the shaft of said motor , extended member (5) of shaft of said motor (1), said extended member (5) is extended to be coupled with manual override assembly (9),
Said manual override assembly (9) comprising crown gear (6) which is engaged with spur gear (7), said spur gear (7) is coupled with the shaft member of said handle (8) which is provided to operate manually in case in failure of power window.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS
In accordance to the present invention,
Figure-01 shows a power window operating system motor with manual override
mechanism in detail.
Figure-02 shows a power window operating system coupled with manual override
mechanism.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION
Referring now to the drawings wherein the showings are for the purpose of illustrating a preferred embodiment of the invention only, and not for the purpose of limiting the same,
Now referring to figure-01 to 02, In accordance with the present invention, a power window operating system with manual override mechanism, said power window system comprises ; an electrical power generating means, such as a motor (1) for providing power to power window, drive housing (2) for accommodating drive system and manual override assembly (9).
4

Said drive housing comprises; spur gear drive (3) which is engaged with worm gear (4) provided on the shaft of said motor , extended member (5) of shaft of said motor (1), said extended member (5) is extended to be coupled with manual override assembly (9),
Said manual override assembly (9) comprising crown gear (6) which is engaged with spur gear (7), said spur gear (7) is coupled with the shaft member of said handle (8) which is provided to operate manually in case in failure of power window.
The said manual override assembly (9) is attached to power window mechanism. The shaft of said power window motor is extended (5) and at the end of it a crown gear (6) is attached. The said crown gear (6) is rotated in case of electrical failure and the existing drive train mechanism is used for moving the window up or down. The said crown gear (6) is to be driven by a spur gear (7) attached to said handle (8) though a crank. The folding handle (8) along with the said spur gear (7) is to be engaged through a cavity provided in the door panel and will usually be stored at an easily retrievable location. The said engaged spur gear (7) will rotate the said crown gear (6) which will in turn rotate the pulley on the window operating mechanism.
Now referring to Figure-02, override mechanism comprises; Motor connected with Drive Pulley (2), Window Glass (13), Clamp(12), Power window mechanism rail (11), Cable (10), Manual override system (9).
The manual override system is attached to the existing power window motor. in this system the existing power window mechanism is kept as is and the manual override system (9) is the additional unit which is interfaced with the motor. In the existing system the Motor (1) drives the spur gear drive (3) through a worm gear (4). The spur gear (3) is coaxially attached to a pulley and cable (10) system which operates the window. The manual override system will be operational when the removable handle is connected and rotated.
5

In case of electrical failure, the said motor will fail and hence the user will not be able to operate the power window. The window can then be manually operated by engaging the handle. In Fig. 01 the spur gear (7) of the handle (8) will lock into place upon insertion into the door trim cavity. The handle (8) and the spur gear (7) are integrated to be in one piece and have a slot type locking arrangement (14) in the housing. The handle(8) along with the spur gear (7) locates itself in said locking arrangement provided . The other end of the handle has a bulb shape with a centre slot arrangement (15) so as to snap fit into the locking arrangement. The handle (8) can be engaged and disengaged by providing sufficient force. Turning the said handle (8) and integrated spur gear (7) will turn the crown gear (6) and hence the shaft (5) and worm gear (4) will rotate. The said worm gear (4) will then drive the pulley and cable arrangement (10) through the spur gear (3) which is coaxially attached with said pulley and cable arrangement (10). By using handle override operation can be done manually similar to the electric operation in case of power window failure. The invention uses very small motor mechanically coupled to spur gear which in turn is coaxially coupled to pulley and cable to operate automatically if motor rotates. In case of motor failure, while cranking, motor still rotates since the torque required for rotating is very small The torque is so small that even without crank handle it can be rotated. Rotating motor manually will not produce any undesirable damage to motor.
The foregoing description is a specific embodiment of the present invention. It should be appreciated that this embodiment is described for purpose of illustration only, and that numerous alterations and modifications may be practiced by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. It is intended that all such modifications and alterations be included insofar as they come within the scope of the invention as claimed or the equivalents thereof.
