Abstract: This invention relates to a pressure release means which acts as a whistle counter means in a conventional pressure cooker. The pressure release plus counter means will have a detachable rotating and reciprocating portion (B) with a plurality of counter pins. It includes a stationary portion (A) mounted on the lid of the pressure cooker having plurality of grooves. The pins in (B) portion moves in the said grooves. A marked head cap portion (E) fixedly mounted on the portion (B) which will represent released whistles is based on the movement of pins. During the pressure build up inside the cooker, the portion (B) moves towards portion (A) and moves away from portion (A) during pressure release thereby moving relative with respect to head cap portion, which then becomes indicative of the number of pressure releases and thereby corresponding number of whistles generated. FIELD OF INVENTION :
Pressure cooker with whistle sound and a whistle counter.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION :
The domestic pressure cooker is one of the most essential cooking utensils used in Indian kitchens. Using a pressure cooker ensures that the food is prepared in lesser time, and still retains the nutritional value of the "used" ingredients. One of the major challenges faced by homemakers is the duration of the use of pressure cooker for preparation of food. Though the pressure cooker provides indication in terms of number of whistles about the status of the particular food being cooked, it demands the homemakers to be attentive to the cooker all the time. On many occasions, the exact number of whistle counts is missed leading to either over or under cooked food. This may lead to wastage of fuel and at times endanger the safety of the user and/or the cooker.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION :
To develop a pressure cooker which is not only innovative but is also thoughtfully designed to make cooking easier and healthier.
The other object is to create a cooker with a thought that every homemaker deserves perfectly made kitchen appliances that work as hard as her to prepare delicious and healthy food for her family.
Hence innovation, quality and service are the core values of this invention. This product is a combination of quality, precision and durability and helps in preparing the tastiest and healthiest food.
The invention also promises to be a boon for hearing impared person as it will be visible as to how many times the whistles are blown.
This particular invention, involves a counting mechanism for counting the number of times the cooker whistled (weight lifted) and displayed.
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION :
The pressure cookers are widely used in households for preparing food. The pressure cookers have preference over the conventional cooking utensils due to the advantages of retaining the nutrition value and flavor of the cooked food and less time required for cooking, also requires lesser attention freeing up time for homemakers to continue multitasking with other chores which results in considerable savings in time.
Boiling point of water raises when atmospheric pressure raises, this phenomenon is utilized in pressure cooker. When heated, the temperature inside the cooker raises which produces steam from water in the food. The steam thus produced increases pressure inside the cooker raising the boiling point of the water and hence the temperature inside the vessel. The vessel is completely sealed from all sides. This ensures that the water inside the vessel reaches higher temperature - this increases the speed of cooking and affect proper boiling of food. When the pressure increases beyond a certain limit, steam is vent out through the steam regulator to prevent the cooker from exploding. The escaping steam produces a whistling sound.
In Indian homes, the whistling sound produced in a pressure cooker is monitored by homemakers to conclude completion of cooking. But on many occasions, it becomes difficult for the homemaker to keep attention on the count due to other activities. Thus, monitoring the progress of cooking becomes a challenging job. The situation becomes particularly unsettling for the hearing impaired. The innovative design described in this invention,
counts the number of whistles produced by the pressure regulator an provides visual feedback to the user, thus making it more userfriendly.
Whistle counter:
In the invention the weight on the vent tube of pressure cooker is made t raise in a guided path which is inclined. There are 4 pins positioned radiall inward in the weight which gets located in the guided path. While the weight i lifting it follows the inclined path and gets rotated by an angle. At the top th pins completely leave the inclined path and come above a vertical path below When the pressure drops due to gravity, the pins fall through the vertical pat retaining the angular shift caused by the inclined path while lifting, this anguls reposition registers a count of whistle. This is how the reciprocal motion of th< regulator is converted to rotary motion.
Vent tube assembly:
In the invention the usual vent tube is replaced by a specially designed vent tube which also houses an Indexing cam on which the Weight gets guided and indexes by one step while undergoing raising and lowering during every whistling cycle.
Pressure Regulator Assembly:
The pressure regulator body has a 4mm hole at the top in which the pin is fixed. The pin seats over the hole in the vent tube thereby arresting the steam from escaping from the cooker till a pressure of 1bar is achieved. The pressure regulator body has a slot in it in which the spring is placed. The spring acts as a retainer. When the pressure regulator lifts up, during whistling, the spring passes over the vent tube and gets retained at the taper end of the vent tube thereby preventing the pressure regulator body to fly. It has four holes at 90° to each other in which the counter pin gets seated. The counter pin moves inside the groove in the vent tube. When the pressure regulator body lifts up during whistling, the counter pin directs the body in the direction of the groove, thereby rotating the body. The counter pin now seats in the next groove and the process continues. The counter pins are fixed firmly to the pressure regulator body by means of a split spring which holds the counter pin against the body. A nylon cap with a metal insert is fastened to the Pin at the top of pressure regulator. It has numbers from 0-7 due to the availability of 8 groovs in the vent tube, and can be any number provided that many number of grooves are available in the vent tube and purely depends on size and availability of space projected around the circumference. We have a fixed indicator mark in the lid handle. This indicator can be engraved suitably in the lid too. During each whistle the counter gets rotated and the corresponding number points towards the indicator mark in the handle thereby informing how many whistles have been blown.
As per one embodiment, a conventional pressure cooker with a body and lid, having a pressure release has been modified to create a pressure release which acts as a whistle counter means simultaneously. The said pressure release cum whistle counter will have a detachable rotating and reciprocating
portion (B) having a plurality of counter pins (B1 Bm). It will have a
stationary portion (A) mounted on the lid of the pressure cooker, having
plurality of grooves (A1 ....An) to move the pins (B1 Bm) of portion B along
an accurate path along its own surface. A marked head cap portion (E) fixedly mounted on portion (B) representative of released whistles of the pressure cooker. The arrangement is such that the portion (B) moves towards portion (A) for pressure buildup within the body of the pressure cooker and moves away from portion (A) for pressure release from and within the body of the pressure cooker. Each of the grooves of portion (A) has two paths, a first linear straight path (C) and extending into a second curved path (D). The said pins (B1...Bm) move downwardly in a vertical reciprocal motion towards and into portion A along the first linear straight path (C) of the groove for providing pressure buildup in the body. The arrangement also has the said pins (B1 ...Bm) move upwardly away from the portion (A) along the curved path (D) of the groove for providing pressure release from the body and further providing a rotary motion of portion B. The head portion (E) is marked (N1....Nn) corresponding to the number of grooves (A1....An) and marked at points corresponding at which each of the curved paths D of portion B ends, thereby providing whistle counts N1 ...Nn.
In another aspect, the arrangement is such that and can be variable with respect to the number of grooves, each of the groove (A1....An) representing a whistle (N1....Nn) i.e., number of pressure releases, thereby the number of grooves (A1....An) etched on the portion A is equal to the number of whistles/pressure releases (N1....Nn) to be identified. Accordingly the arrangement can have any desirable number of grooves.
In another aspect, the number number of pins is preferably even in number such as 2, 4, 6, 8, etc though this is not a limiting factor. Even numbers are preferred for the purpose of stability as it can be arranged in opposite directions.
In another aspect as detailed above, the relationship between number of pins (B1...Bm) and number of grooves (A1....An) is that number of grooves (A1....An) is multiple of number of pins (B1....Bm) since they are cooperatively functioning with each other whereby the pressure release system is able to provide a whistle counter mechanism when it is performing its normal and basic function.
Additional objects and advantages of the invention and modifications may be realized by skilled persons, all of which are within the spirit and scope of the invention.
