Abstract: A primary packaging for a centrifugal pump (I) comprising a totally enclosed fan cooled electric motor (2) having a suction head (3) and a discharge head (4) at the opposite sides thereof. The primary packaging comprises a suction head support (5) comprising a double walled hollow body formed of corrugated cardboard paper and having front and rear walls (5a, 5b) and bottom and top walls (5c, 5d). The space in the hollow body between the front and bottom walls thereof corresponds to the suction head. Strips (6, 7) are cut from the front wall and top wall of the hollow body to form an opening (8) corresponding to the suction head. The rear end of the strip cut from the front wall and the rear end of the strip cut from the top wall remain attached to the front wall and rear wall respectively and are folded against each other to provide a self generated additional support for the suction head. The primary packaging further comprises a discharge head support comprising a double walled hollow structure (10) formed of corrugated cardboard paper and having front and rear walls(10a, 10b) and bottom and top walls (lOc, IOd). The front wall of the discharge head support is formed with an aperture (11) corresponding to the discharge head and further formed with a notch (12) corresponding to the condenser (13) of the pump. (Fig 2).

PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION
The following specification describes the invention:
Field of invention
The invention relates to an improved packaging for an electric pump, the packaging being reinforced by portions cut out of the sheet enclosing the pump end.
Background
An electric pump is generally packed for storage or transportation by first mounting it on a wooden pallet using nuts and bolts. The pallet comprises flat wooden pieces held together with wooden battens nailed to them. The motor shaft and corresponding front end shield and the back end shield are covered with corrugated paper. The pump is covered with a polyethylene bag and provided with a corrugated paper closure or sleeve around it. The pump is then located in a corrugated paper carton, covered with a paper sheet at the top and the flaps of the carton are closed against the paper sheet and sealed with tapes. The packages so formed are, however, prone to breakage and crumpling from the pump end due to the higher weight at the pump side as compared to that in the motor end.
Detailed description
Accordingly the invention provides an improved packaging for an electric pump, the packaging being reinforced by portions cut out of the sheet enclosing the pump end.
In one embodiment the invention provides an improved packaging for an electric pump, the packaging comprising an enclosure formed by a folded sheet enclosing the pump end and the motor end, the enclosure being reinforced at the pump end by portions cut out of
the sheet, the reinforcement being capable of maintaining a gap between base of the motor end of the pump and the surface of the enclosure.
In another embodiment the invention provides a method for reinforcing the packaging for an electric pump at the pump end, the method comprising cutting a sheet for enclosing the pump end in an enclosure formed from the folded sheet, folding and arranging the cut out portions in the enclosure so as to support the pump end and to maintain a gap between base of the motor and the surface of the enclosure.
The invention provides a durable packaging for electric pump that helps in avoiding the damages caused during handling and transit. The reinforcement using the cut portions from the sheet in the pump end of the package provide strength to resist the higher weight at the pump end as well as to prevent the contact of the motor end of the pump with the package. The improved packaging of the invention thus provides enhanced safety and stability to the packed pump at a relatively low cost.
