A Process For Applying Safety Insulation For Electrical Safety Applications

Abstract: ABSTRACT A PROCESS FOR APPLYING SAFETY INSULATION FOR ELECTRICAL SAFETY APPLICATIONS A process for applying safety insulation for electrical safety applications comprising cleaning the surface. Applying plurality of coating of an insulation composition on the cleaned surface uniformly and allowing the same to dry for about 25 - 45 minutes each time. Applying second coating and allowing the same to dry for about 25 – 45 minutes. Repeating above step to apply plurality of such coatings over one another and drying the same each time so as to obtain a layer of coating of a thickness of about 0.6 – 1 mm, curing said layer of coatings for a period of 68 - 74 hours at a temperature of -10 to 40 degree Celsius so as to obtain an electrical safety coating onto the said surface.

Specification

DESC:FIELD OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to a process for applying safety insulation for electrical safety applications and an insulation composition. Particularly this invention relates to a process for applying safety insulation, for electrical safety purposes, for example, on a pantograph and related equipment used in railways and the insulation composition.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The use of electric engines in the railways and mass rapid transit system (MRTS) is well known. The Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) is introduced in the metropolitan cities, nowadays, for the ease of passengers traveling. The MRTS is provided with 25 kV AC, single-phase overhead current collection system. It is noticed that sometimes stray wires fall on Over-Head-Line and equipments mounted on the car roof. Also, incidents of flashover, due to the falling of kite thread on the roof, are common. Therefore, to avoid the above incidents and damages to the rooftop of the coach/car and rake a coating of insulating material like paint is provided over the rooftop, current collection system, pantograph, etc.
However, there are disadvantages associated with the prior art. One of the disadvantages is that the insulation layer is not of the required strength and sometimes the car roof is punctured.
Another disadvantage associated with the prior art is that such incidents not only results in interrupting train running and power supply system, but also rakes are withdrawn and loss of revenue takes place.
Therefore, there is a need to provide a process for applying safety insulation over the rooftop of a coach/car and rake for electrical safety applications to minimize maintenance cost and damage.

OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
Therefore, an object of the present invention is to provide a process for applying safety insulation for electrical safety applications which obviates the disadvantages associated with conventional systems.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a process for applying safety insulation which is highly hydrophobic in nature having excellent water repellent properties.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a process for applying safety insulation which is resistant to UV radiations.
Still another object of the present invention is to provide a process for applying safety insulation which is simple and the insulation provided is durable and maintenance cost is less.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a process for applying safety insulation which has high electric strength.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a process for applying safety insulation which reduces leakage current.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
According to this invention, there is provided a process for applying safety insulation for electrical safety applications comprising cleaning the surface, applying plurality of coating of an insulation composition on the cleaned surface uniformly and allowing the same to dry for about 25 - 45 minutes each time, applying second coating and allowing the same to dry for about 25 – 45 minutes, repeating above step to apply plurality of such coatings over one another and drying the same each time so as to obtain a layer of coating of a thickness of about 0.6 – 1 mm, curing said layer of coatings for a period of 68 - 74 hours at a temperature of -10 to 40 degree Celsius so as to obtain an electrical safety coating onto the said surface.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
A process to applying safety insulation for electrical safety applications and an insulation composition, according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention is herein described in the following description and illustrated in the accompanying examples.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
A process to applying safety insulation for electrical safety applications is herein described and illustrated with numerous specific details so as to provide a complete understanding of the invention. However, these specific details are exemplary details and should not be treated as the limitation to the scope of the invention. The invention may be performed with slight modifications. Throughout this specification the word “comprises” or variations such as “comprises or comprising”, will be understood to imply the inclusions of a stated element, integer or step, or group of elements, but not the exclusions of any other element, integer or step or group of elements.
A process for applying safety insulation for electrical safety applications according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises in cleaning the surface on which the insulation coating is to be provided. First coating of the insulation composition, for example paint, is then applied on the cleaned surface uniformly with the help bristle brush or spray gun. The coating is then allowed to dry for about 25 - 45 minutes and then second coating is applied on the first coating. Again, the second coating is allowed to dry for about 25 – 45 minutes. According to an option plurality of such coatings, for example 3 – 5 coating, are applied over one another so as to obtain a complete coating of a thickness of about 0.6 – 1 mm. The coated surface is then allowed to be cured for 68 - 74 hours at a temperature of -10 to 40 degree Celsius so as to achieve full electrical safety quality coating on the required surface.
,CLAIMS:WE CLAIM:

1. A process for applying safety insulation for electrical safety applications comprising cleaning the surface, applying plurality of coating of an insulation composition on the cleaned surface uniformly and allowing the same to dry for about 25 - 45 minutes each time, applying second coating and allowing the same to dry for about 25 – 45 minutes, repeating above step to apply plurality of such coatings over one another and drying the same each time so as to obtain a layer of coating of a thickness of about 0.6 – 1 mm, curing said layer of coatings for a period of 68 - 74 hours at a temperature of -10 to 40 degree Celsius so as to obtain an electrical safety coating onto the said surface.

2. The process for applying safety insulation for electrical safety applications as claimed in claim 1, wherein the coating is applied with the help bristle brush or spray gun.

3. The process for applying safety insulation for electrical safety applications as claimed in claim 1, wherein the second coating is applied on the first coating and this process is repeated for three to five time.
