Field of the Invention
This invention relates to a process for preparing anti-counterfeit aluminium foil
and in particular, this invention relates to a process for preparing anti-
counterfeit aluminium foil and its use for producing packaging material,
decorative foils and advertizing media. More particularly, this present invention
relates to the anti-counterfeit aluminium foil. The invention relates furthermore
to the use of the counterfeit-proof aluminium foil as claimed in the invention
for producing packaging material, for example for medications. Furthermore,
this invention also relates to the process of preparing counterfeit-proof
aluminium foil which is made by using a specialized optical image transfer
technology which creates an encrypted image on the aluminium foil.
Background of the invention and the related Prior Art
The demand for counterfeit-proof packaging material, for example for
medications, has grown in recent years to the extent the amount of counterfeit
medications has risen relatively greatly worldwide. These counterfeits can be
pharmaceutically active drugs, but also agents with a placebo effect.
Therefore the attempt is made, to provide packaging materials for the

pharmaceutical industry with holograms. It has been found that even
holograms, although their production is relatively complicated, can be
counterfeited with increasing technical development. These counterfeits can
only be characterized or recognized as such by a specialist since it is difficult
for the user of a medication to ascertain whether the hologram is counterfeit or
not if he does not have the corresponding comparison specimen.
Regardless of this, the attempt is made to produce counterfeit-proof packaging
material in so far as the material surface is provided with a special coating
which has pigments which can be activated by radiation. Thus, for example, the
company logo of the manufacturer or the trademark of the medication can be
made visible or invisible by radiation, such as UV or IR rays.
EP1217091 relates to packaging with an integrated initial opening and/or
originality guarantee which is produced by a coating which reflects incident
light so that depending on the direction or angle of viewing different colors are
discerned.
EP0967091 describes a coating of several grid images which are matched to
one another and which, depending on the viewing angle, produce a different

optical perception. But it has been found that these coating systems can also be
added so that satisfactory counterfeit-proofness, especially with respect to
packaging materials for the pharmaceutical industry, could not be achieved in
this way.
Packaging industry utilizes aluminium foil individually or as a substrate in
multilayer laminates basically for its excellent barrier properties. Varied items
can be packed and the structure selected depending upon the stability and shelf
life requirement of the item to be packed.
A lot of research work happened in last few years to provide anti-counterfeit
aluminium foil need to be fulfilled for essentially healthcare products which is
clearly understood as priority area.
The patent document CN202021880 states an anti-counterfeiting drug
packaging aluminium foil sticked with fibers. A plurality of fibers is randomly
mixed between a protective layer and an aluminium foil substrate layer. A fiber
layer which is dispersed uniformly is formed by the fibers. An outer printing
layer comprises an identification number layer. Random distribution
characteristic information of the fibers is scanned and acquired, is stored in a
database of a computer anti-counterfeiting inquiring system accessing a
telephone network or/and the Internet and is used for the public to check truth

and falsity. After a patient takes the drug, the drug packaging aluminium foil is
necessarily damaged, so that the drug packaging aluminium foil can be avoided
being recycled by fake makers.
The other document CN201103077 discloses a composite aluminium-foil paper
combined aluminium and paper and used for cigarette packaging. The
composite aluminium-foil paper comprises a layer of lining paper and a layer of
aluminium foil, which are compounded as a whole; the upper local part of the
aluminium foil is overlapped with a laser layer. The three-dimensional laser
hologram aluminium-foil anti-counterfeiting paper provided by the utility
model not only has the advantages and characteristics of freshness preservation
and moisture resistance, but also has the functions of anti-counterfeiting with
stereoscopic impression; in addition, the design proposal of the structure that a
required part is partially or wholly overlapped with a three-dimensional laser
hologram layer results in effective control of production cost, resources
conservation and enhance anti-counterfeiting of products.
According to the document CN101069999, a laser anti-counterfeiting
aluminium foil and its preparation method has been described. The anti-
counterfeiting aluminium foil contains a delomorphic aluminium plating layer,
an adhesive layer and a metal aluminium foil layer overlapping successively.

The preparation method mainly contains washing, gluing, heating, pressing,
covering membrane, water or wind cooling and removing membrane etc. of the
aluminium foil. The invention transfers the laser anti-counterfeiting membrane
onto the aluminium foil by using new-type BOPP. The BOPP substrate
membrane has good temperature and age resistance, soft materials, without
coating transparent shape-separating layer and simple technology. Transferring
the anti-counterfeiting membrane onto the aluminium foil can avoid the laser
patterns disappearing or destroying. The whole membrane has good
temperature resistance and is uneasy to craze.
The invention of the document 2714/MUM/2009 provides a packaging material
comprising a plurality of layers, said material having discernible indicia for
authentication characterized by the presence of at least one predetermined anti-
counterfeit feature, at least one predetermined location in at least one
predetermined visible layer. Also, provided in accordance with the present
invention is a process for manufacturing said packaging material.
The document CN2718037 describes a safety line anti-fake aluminium foil
paper, comprising a layer of lining paper and a layer of aluminium foil. The
lining paper and the aluminium foil are compounded together, and part of the

lining paper is compounded with safety lines. The safety line anti-fake
aluminium foil paper not only keeps the features and characters of the original
aluminium foil liner papers, but also has anti-fake function with more beautiful
appearance, which is easy to be identified.
According to the invention CN2492493 electromagnetic induction composite
aluminium foil mat used for sealing the open of the bottles consists of a layer of
basic material and a layer of aluminium foil that are laminated with each other
through a layer of adhesion agent, which is crucial to coat a layer of sealing
film on the upper surface of the layer of the aluminium foil and to coat an
adhesion layer on the lower surface of the aluminium foil. Since the upper
surface of the layer of the aluminium foil is coated with a layer of sealing film,
the micro holes on the surface of the aluminium foil are blocked; therefore, the
mat has the superior advantages of anti-moisture, non-permeability, cleanliness,
beauty, theft resistance and fake resistance.
A production method is provided by which a copied volume hologram from a
multi-layer master is later customized by utilization of the color tuning
properties of the light-curable materials used for the application onto personal
documents. These holographic individual data, such as a passport photo, are
also separately detectable, without the holographic elements copied from the

master, that are visible under other viewing angles, impairing the visibility of
the individual data. The volume hologram overlay obtained by this method is
applied on personal and valuable documents to increase protection against
forgery, possesses superimposed optically variable items of information that are
separately visible under different viewing angles and give a defined color
change under different view angles, wherein at least one of these items of
optical information represents individual personal data, in particular a passport
photograph which has been stated in document of patent application
US8263292.
The document US8081359 states that the security object comprises a substrate,
a surface structure and a hologram layer. A volume hologram is arranged in the
hologram layer. The hologram layer is deformed in homogeneously by the
surface structure, which gives rise to readily detectable changes in the
reflections from the volume hologram. These changes can be used to verify the
authenticity of the object. The surface structure can e.g. be applied using
intaglio printing techniques or embossing. Alternatively or in addition to the
deformation of the hologram layer by means of the surface structure, the
hologram layer may also be deformed by embossing.

The invention stated in US7806343 discloses the invention which concerns the
prevention of counterfeiting labels for various products is addressed by
introducing counterfeit proof labels having optically concealed security safety
features and clues for consumer's self identification and verification. The
images of groups of questions and answers are printed in a precise serial
formation, parallel to the optical center of the micro lenticule at the focal plane
of a high resolution micro optic array of the label at the location in relation to
the optical centers of the micro lenticule and viewing angle, so that each of the
questions and answers can be read at a specific viewing angle. For
identification, gently tilling the label back and forth, at different angles, each
group of the question and answers will be displayed on the label. If the answers
correctly match with the questions, the label is proved to be authentic; if one or
more of the answers is wrong or not clear the label is a counterfeit. The label
can be read under visible light source without any viewing aid.
The other document US6490403 describes a process for manufacturing a panel
light-guiding element, including the step of rolling a metal body of one of
aluminium and an aluminium alloy in at least one pass between at least two
rolls to form a rolled product having at least one structured surface as a light
guiding structure having a rib pattern of height h and a tooth-like cross-section.

The tooth-like cross-section have a periodic structure of rows of triangles. The
triangles have bases which follow each other, a first side of each of the
triangles running at an angle .alpha., and a second side at an angle .beta, from
the base which has a length 1. At least one of the rolls exhibits an embossed
pattern that is structured to form the rib pattern in a rolling direction over a full
length of the rolled product and is tooth-like in cross-section so that the angle
.alpha, is in a range of 5 to 60.degree., the angle .beta, in a range of 10 to
90.degree., the length 1 in a range of 0.01 to 10 mm and the height h is 0.1 to 2
mm.
The other document JP2009116857 provide a low-cost and high-productivity
anti counterfeit measures difficult to fabricate by die picking that is difficult to
determine under a normal visible-light source, capable of obtaining verification
light of a variety of color variations, relative to light source types or the
verification light of vivid color changes in a particular verification method, and
further, producing a high anti counterfeit effects, using a proper pattern. An anti
counterfeit structure includes a particulate fixing layer, having spherical-shaped
particulates and a particulate fixation resin for retaining and fixing the above
spherical-shaped particulates. The particulate fixation resin includes one resin
type or more and is disposed so as not to bury the half height of or greater than

the spherical-shaped particulates. The spherical-shaped particulates are
disposed in a single planar shape over the entire plane, or in an arbitrary shape,
with an area filling rate of 30% or higher and have a mean particle diameter of
2.5 [mu]m or smaller, with 70% or higher of particles in number, included
within a range which is not smaller than 0.8-fold and not larger than 1.2-fold of
the mean particle diameter.
With the increasing skill of counterfeiters, a further improvement of such
security objects is desired. Also, it is desired that the security objects have
characteristics that makes them easy to be verified. The object of this invention
is to avoid these known defects of allegedly counterfeit-proof aluminium foils.
Due to its excellent barrier properties it is used extensively in Pharmaceutical,
Food and Packaging industry and Due to its critical nature of usage the
manufacturing process is very critical and there are various process controls
that need to be followed to ensure that the output is of the desired quality
requirements. It becomes very important to ensure that there is no pilferage in
