Abstract: ABSTRACT A PROCESS FOR SYNTHESIS OF Z-11-HEXADECENAL The present disclosure provides a process for preparation of Z-11-hexadecenal. The process includes steps of preparing phosphonium salt; carrying out Wittig reaction to convert the phosphonium salt to Z-11-hexadecenoic acid; preparing Z-11-hexadecenol using the Z-11-hexadecenoic acid; and finally preparing Z-11-hexadecenal by oxidising the Z-11-hexadecenol. The process so disclosed uses easily available raw materials/ingredients and at the same time it is easy to perform a large scale synthesis. Thereby making the preparation of Z-11-Hexadecenal economical. The Z-11-Hexadecenal could be used individually or in combination with other pheromones as a lure for attracting insects (of Lepidopteran species) in the insect traps. The use of pheromones to control insect and pest management is an eco-friendly way as compared to the present methods of using chemical pesticides. Figure 1
