TITLE

A PROCESS OF MANUFACTURING MULTI COLORED HOOK AND LOOP FASTENER TAPES.

The following Specification particularly describes and ascertains the nature of this invention and the manner in which it is to be performed : -


This invention relates to a process of manufacturing multicolored hook and loop fastener by using multicolored yarn instead of using the traditional single colored normal yarn.
The hook and loop fastener tapes were developed as an aid in fastening two items together. Under this hodk and loop fasteners tapes, actually, there are two tapes which are to be fastened together with the help of locking surfaces available on both the tapes. One of the two tapes is called as hook tape (referred as hook hereafter) and the other one is called as loop tape (referred as loop hereafter).
The hook tape is manufactured with the help of four types of yarns viz.
1. The warp yarn - to make the base of the hook tape.
2. The weft yarn - to make a weave and helps to hold all warps yarns.
3. The pile yarn - to make piles of the hook tape by a hard yarn (monofilament).
4. The catch yarn - used in selvedge to catch the weft yarn at one end .
The loop tape is manufactured with the help of four yarns viz.
1. The warp yarn - to make the base of the loop tape.
2. The weft yarn - to make a weave and helps to hold all warps yarns.
3. The pile yarn -to make the pile of the loop tape.
5. The catch yarn - used in selvedge to catch the weft yarn at one end .
The hook tape has the hooks which subsequently are cut, has the upper rough or toothy surface, which acts as the locking surface to the loop. On the other hand the loop tape, which is subsequently is brushed, has the upper cushion like surface, which again acts as the catching surface to the hook. When the rough surface of the hook comes in touch with the cushion surface of the loop, the rough surface of the hook gets an appropriate grip on the cushion surface of the loop, and hence the fastening of the two objects which are attached to the hook and loops happens.

The hook and loop fasteners is an advanced method of fastening two objects together. It has number of merits. First of all. the objects which are fastened together with the aid of the hook and loop fasteners will not get separated from each other unless the hook and loop fasteners are not separated from each other with the help of the required strength or force. Thus, the chances of automatic separation of the objects fastened are minimized. Secondly, when necessary, the objects fastened with the help of the hook and loop fasteners can be separated without the objects being spoilt or torn. Thirdly, the operation of hook & loop fastener tapes is smoother and there is a least possibility of any injury to the operator.
Considering the above basic advantages of the hook and loop fasteners, the same have number of industrial as well as domestic uses. The hook and loop fasteners have turned out to be the most common method of fastening these days. The hook and loop fasteners have varied uses mainly into the medical equipments and aids like the blood pressure measuring instruments i.e. sphegmo manometer, neck & back supporters, the children utilities like diapers, school bags, sports equipments, footwears, furnishings like sofa covers, table coverings, mosquito net fixings, garments like shirts, shorts, bands, gloves, to name a few.
The original art of and process of manufacturing the hook and loop fasteners begun ir» the early 1940's. When for the first time the hook and loop fasteners were manufactured. That time the hook & loop fastener tapes were manufactured with the help of a single color yarn i.e. natural yarn. Hence, the color of the yarn generally used to be natural or white. Hence, the hook and loop fasteners were of same single color i.e. white. Under this method of manufacturing the hook and loop fasteners were available only in the plain & dull shades of white.
The need of the market is generally not the white hook and loop fasteners, but the users of the hook and loop fasteners require them in colors depending on their likings

and requirements. To explain it further, the industrial use hook and loop fasteners may require the same under the dark shades, say. black or dark brown. The defense purpose fasteners, say used in the jeep covers may require the same under the dark green or black color or olive green. On the other hand, the domestic users may like the hook and loop fasteners in light shades or shades of their walls. Similarly, the hook and loop fasteners used in the articles used by the children and the teenagers may require them in the bright or the fluorescent colors. Thus, the typical white hook and loop fasteners could not serve the above purposes, where apart from the fastening character of the fasteners, the color of the fasteners is also important.
Considering, the above shortcomings of the white hook and loop fasteners, a need was felt to develop and manufacture the hook and loop fasteners in various colors. Keeping this in mind, a new process was developed for manufacture of the hook and loop fasteners in various colors. This process of manufacturing the hook and loop fasteners in colors is currently prevalent all over the world. Under this current process, the same natural or white yarn is used to manufacture the hook and loop fasteners. However, after the hook or loop tapes are woven from looms, the said hook and loop tapes are dyed with the color desired with the help of dyeing process. Because of this dyeing, one can get the hook and loop fasteners made of the desired colors and can be used for the above referred specific purposes.
However, there are three major disadvantages of this process of manufacturing the hook and loop fasteners. First of all. this process of manufacturing involves the use of natural or white yarn only as the basic raw material, so the question of using multicolored yarns does not arise. Secondly, this process involves an additional stage of dyeing the hook or loop spools to give them the desired colors. This adds to the manufacturing time in making of the hook & loop fastener tapes and hence to the cost of manufacturing. Lastly, it gives the hook & loop fastener tapes only under a single colour and that too under the flat colour. The need of the developing and ever expecting market may be something more than just flat & single colors.

The object of the invention is to devise a simple, easy to apply and novel method of manufacturing the multicolored hook and loop fastener tapes.
To understand the underlying principle of this invention is as follows, let us examine a conventionally/currently used methods of manufacturing the hook and loop fastener tapes.
Under the first of these methods, for manufacturing the hook and loop fasteners, only the natural or white yarns are used as the base material as well as the colour of all the other type of yarns is the same. Thus, in case of the hook tape all the yarns i.e. the weft yarn, the catch yarn , the pile yarn & the warp yarn are natural or white only. Similarly, for the loop tape all the yarns i.e. the weft yarn, the catch yam. the pile yarn & the warp yarn are again natural or white only. Subsequent to the warping & weaving of the yarns on the looms, the hook & loop tapes are sen: directly for further processing. Under this method, as only natural or white yarn is used for hook & loop tapes, the resultant item i. in natural or white or offwhite only Hence, one gets hook and loop fastener in single colour i.e. white only.
Under another method for manufacturing the hook and loop tape fasteners, which is the most popular method, again the natural or white yarns are used as the base material as well as the colour of all the other type of yarns used is the same. Thus, in case of the hook tape all the yarns i.e. the weft yarn , the catch yarn . the pile yam & the warp yarn are natural or white only. Similarly, for the loop tape all the yarns i.e. the weft yarn, the catch yarn, the pile yarn & the warp yarn are again natural or white only. The above yarns are then sent for warping & weaving and the fabric necessary for hook or loop tapes is made. Further, these tapes are dyed with the help of any-dyeing process and the hook & loop tapes are given the necessary & desired colours. However, under this method, the base material again is the natural or white yarn only and there is involvement of one more stage i.e. dyeing the hook or loop

tapes with the desired colours. This adds to the time taken in manufacturing of the hook and loop fastener tapes. Also, under this process of manufacturing hook & loop fastener tapes one can get the tapes only under a single colour and that too under the elat colour only. The need of the developing and ever expecting market may be something more than just flat & single colors.
In the invention under consideration, for manufacturing the multicolored hook and loop fastener tapes, with the help of multicolored yarns.
Under this method of manufacturing, to manufacture the hook tapes.
1. The weft yarn - is from the natural or white or multicolored yarn.
2. The catch yarn is from the natural or white or multicolored yarn.
3. The pile yarn - is from nylon monofilament and is of natural color.
4. The warp yarn - is from natural or white or multicolored yarn.
on the other hand to manufacture the loop tapes,
1. The weft yarn - is from the natural or white or multicolor yarn.
2. The catch yarn - is from the natural or white or multicolored yarn.
3. The pile yarn - is from the mu'ticolor yarn.
4. The warp yarn - is from natural or white or multicolored yarn.
Thus, with the use of the above multicoloured yarns an entirely a new and attractive look is created. Further, under a single hook and loop fastener one can get the feel of many colour shades at the same time. To add to this, the process or stage of dyeing the hook and loop tapes obtained from the weaving is eliminated under this method, hence a considerable time is saved in the total of the manufacturing process. Further, this process of manufacturing the hook & loop fastener tapes, has the combination of the benefits of both the traditional methods of manufacturing the

hook & loop fastener tapes. As this process avoids the dyeing stage, it has the benefit of the first process and on the other hand, as this process results in multicolored hook & loop fastener tapes, it has the benefit superior to the second method of hook & loop fastener tapes.
The Invention :
The method / process so invented is a simple and novel means used for manufacturing the multicolored hook and loop fastener tapes.
The process under consideration for manufacturing the multicolored hook and loop fastener tapes employs the certain yarns which are multicolored yarns.
As mentioned in the paragraph above by using the multicolored yarns at certain levels, the hook and loop fasteners giving entirely a new, novel and attractive look can be manufactured.
Under this process,
for manufacturing the hook fastener tapes
1. The weft yarn - is from the natural or white or multicolored yarn.
2. The catch yarn - is from the natural or white or multicolored yarn.
3. The pile yarn - is from nylon monofilament and is of natural or white or multicolored.
4 The warp yarn - is from natural or white or multicolored yarn.
are used. After warping the above yarns, with the help of the process of weaving the tape is woven. Further to this, without dyeing, these hook tapes are sent for

chemical treatment. Under this a resin treatment is done to the hook tape from the base side. this is necessary to give the required stiffness to the hook tape and avoid ravelling of yarns. Then, with the process of hook cutting the hooks are cut. This is necessary to allow the hooks to have an appropriate grip on the loop tape's smooth surface. Then the tapes arc slittcd into strips of required widths. Subsequently the normal process of inspection, winding, packing etc. takes place.
And on the other hand to manufacture the loop tapes.
1. The weft yarn - is from the natural or white or multicolor yarn.
2. The catch yarn - is from the natural or white or multicolored yarn.
3. The pile yarn - is from the multicolor yarn.
4. The warp yarn - is from natural or white or multicolored yarn.
are used. After warping the above yarns, with the help of the process of weaving, the tapes are woven. Further to this, without dyeing, these loop tapes are brushed to get the appropriate cushion. The distinctive novelty is that, this method / process, for manufacturing the multicolored hook and loop fastener tapes, a multicolored yarn is used at weaving stage and has all the beneficial features that are present in all the previous methods of manufacturing the hook and loop fastener tapes.
This system is superior to the current practices where, under the first process method for manufacturing hook and loop fastener tapes, only the natural or white

yarns are used as the base material for all the yarns used in the same. Thus, in this case all the yarns i.e. the warp yarn . the welt yarn . the pile yarn & the catch yarn are natural or white only. Subsequent to the process of weaving the tapes on the looms, the hook & loop tapes are sent directly for further processing. Under this method, as only one colour yam i.e. the natural or white yarn is used for hook & loop tapes, the resultant item also is in white or natural colour only. Hence one gets hook and loop fastener in single colour i.e. white or natural color only.
OR under the second method / process of manufacturing the hook and loop fastener tapes, which is currently, the most popular method, again the natural or white yarns are used as the base material for all the yarns used in the same. Thus, in this case all the yarns i.e. the warp yarn , weft yarn, the pile yarn & the catch yarn are natural or white only. The above yarns are then sent for weaving and the fabric necessary for hook or loop tapes is made. Further, these tapes are dyed with the help of the dyeing and the hook & loop tapes are given the necessary or desired colours. However, under this method, the base material again is the natural or white yarn only and there is involvement of one additional stage i.e. dyeing the hook & loop tapes with the desired colours. This adds to the time taken in manufacturing of the hook and loop fastener tapes. Also, under this process of manufacturing hook & loop fastener tapes one can get the tapes only under a single colour and that too under the flat colour only. The need of the developing and ever expecting market may be something more than just flat & single colors.
Whereas, under the method / process of manufacturing the multicolored hook and loop tape fasteners, all the above shortcomings of the existing or the current methods are taken care of. Also apart from obtaining the multicolored hook and loop fasteners, has all the beneficial features present in the current processes. Further, as the dyeing the hook or loop spools stage is eliminated time taken in the same is saved.

We claim : -
1. A process of manufacturing the multicolored hook fastener tapes, by using the greigh or natural or white or multicoloured warp yarn, the natural or white or multicoloured weft yarn, natural or white or multicoloured nylon multifilament pile yarn & natural or white or multicolored catch yarn, alter warping the above yarns or directly w ith the help of weaving, the tapes are woven on the looms, without dyeing, are further chemically treated from the bottom side of the hook tape with the help of resin treatment to get the desired stiffness to the same tape & to avoid ravelling of yarns and then hook cutting is done and then the tapes are silud into strips of required widths and lastly the normal processes of inspection, winding, packing etc.

A process of manufacturing the multicolored loop fastener tapes, by using the natural or white or multicolored warp yarn, natural or white or multicolored weft yarn, multicolored pile yarn & natural or white or multicolored catch yarn, after warping the above yarns or directly with the help of weaving, the tapes are woven on the looms, without dyeing, are brushed to get the appropriate cushion, further are chemically treated from the bottom side of the loop tape with the help of resin treatment to get the desired stiffness to the same tape & to avoid ravelling of yarns and then the tapes are slitted into strips of required widths and lastly the normal processes of inspection, winding, packing etc.
