Abstract: The present invention pertains to a protection cover 10 designed to protect electromagnetic (EM) log sensors during submarine towing operations. The protection cover 10 comprises a cage-shaped structure 1 formed by a plurality of rods 2 arranged both horizontally and vertically. The protection cover 10 is used to enclose the EM log sensor 20 and is securely attached to the surface of the submarine hull in front of a bollard.
DESC:FIELD OF INVENTION:
[001] The present invention relates to a protection cover for the electromagnetic (EM) log sensor. More specifically, the present invention relates to a protection cover that shields the electromagnetic log sensor during submarine towing operations.
BACKGROUND AND PRIOR ART:
[002] An electromagnetic (EM) Log sensor is generally used to measure the speed of the submarine or ship during navigation. The electromagnetic log sensor consists of a metal rod that protrudes from the hull of the submarine. The operating principle of the electromagnetic log sensor is based on the phenomenon of electromagnetic induction.
[003] In a diving condition, the submarine's speed is measured by an EM log sensor that is mounted on its exterior hull and in front of the bollard of the submarine. When the submarines are manoeuvred without their main engines operating, the ropes from the tug are transmitted to the bollard of the submarine. In such conditions, the sensor could get damaged if ropes are handled improperly. Once it gets damaged, calibrating the EM log sensor after installation becomes more difficult, as calibration can only be done in the submarine's diving state, which is a time-consuming process.
[004] In order to overcome the abovementioned problem, there is a need for a protection cover to protect the EM log sensor from potential damage.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION:
[005] The principal object of the present invention is to provide a protection cover that protects the Electromagnetic (EM) log sensor during any abnormal operations on the submarine.
[006] Another object of the present invention is to provide a protection cover that prevents damage to the EM log sensor during the cold-moving state of the submarine.
[007] One of the objects of the present invention is to provide a protection cover that can be modified to protect other sensitive equipment installed on the outer surface of the submarine.
[008] Another object of the present invention is to provide a protection cover that shields the sensor from potential damage caused by improper handling of ropes passing through the bollard when the submarine is in a cold move state or when the main engine is not in operation.
[009] Accordingly, the present invention discloses a protection cover adapted to protect EM log sensors during towing operations of the submarine.
[010] In an aspect of the present invention, a protection cover for the electromagnetic log sensor comprising a cage-shaped structure which is formed by a plurality of rods arranged both horizontally and vertically.
[011] In an aspect of the present invention, the protection cover is made of steel material.
[012] In an aspect of the present invention, the cage-shaped structure is configured to enclose the electromagnetic log sensor.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS:
[013] The invention has other advantages and features which will be more readily apparent from the following detailed description of the invention and the appended claims, when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 illustrates the protection cover for the EM Log sensor of the Present Invention.
Figure 2 illustrates the protection cover to protect the EM Log sensor while the rope passed to the bollard.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION:
[014] The invention is described herein in detail with the help of figures appended at the end of the specification. The figures illustrate the preferred embodiment as well as other embodiments that define the scope of the present invention. However, it may be understood that the figures presented herein are intended to exemplify the scope of the invention only. The person skilled in art may note that by no means the figures limit the scope of the invention. Any variation in the drawings by any other person will be falling in the scope of the present invention.
[015] Throughout the specification and claims, the following terms take the meanings explicitly associated herein unless the context clearly dictates otherwise. The meaning of "a", "an", and "the" include plural references. The meaning of "in" includes "in" and "on." Referring to the drawings, like numbers indicate like parts throughout the views. Additionally, a reference to the singular includes a reference to the plural unless otherwise stated or inconsistent with the disclosure herein.
[016] The present invention discloses a protection cover for the Electromagnetic log sensor which protects the EM log sensor during towing operations of the submarine. The protection cover prevents potential damage to the EM log sensor while the submarine is in a cold move state or when the submarine is moving without the main engine in operation. Any form of improper handling of rope that is passed through the bollard when the submarine is in the cold move state can damage the EM log sensor. Hence, the protection cover acts as a shield to protect the EM log sensor.
[017] Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 depict the protection cover 10 designed to protect the electromagnetic (EM) log sensor 20. The protection cover 10 comprises a cage-shaped structure 1 with a plurality of rods 2. The cage-shaped structure 1 is formed through a plurality of rods 2 that are arranged both horizontally and vertically. The protection cover 10 is attached to the surface of the hull in front of the bollard. The cage-shaped structure 1 encloses the EM log sensor 20 and provides a physical barrier against potential damage caused by improper handling of ropes during submarine movements.
[018] In a preferred embodiment, the protection cover 10 is made of steel material.
[019] In an embodiment of the present invention, the size of the protection cover 10 is 600x 300 x 300 mm.
[020] In an embodiment of the present invention, the protection cover 10 is attached to the surface of the submarine hull in front of a bollard.
[021] Although a particular exemplary embodiment of the invention has been disclosed in detail for illustrative purposes, it will be recognized by those skilled in the art that variations or modifications of the disclosed invention, including the rearrangement in the configurations of the parts, changes in steps and their sequences may be possible. Accordingly, the invention is intended to embrace all such alternatives, modifications, and variations as may fall within the spirit and scope of the present invention.
[022] The foregoing descriptions of specific embodiments of the present invention have been presented for purposes of illustration and description. They are not intended to be exhaustive or to limit the invention to the precise forms disclosed, and obviously many modifications and variations are possible in light of the above teaching.
ADVANTAGES OF THE INVENTION:
[023] The present invention provides a protection cover that serves as an effective shield for the EM log sensor during abnormal conditions.
[024] The present invention provides a protection cover that minimizes the risk of harm to the sensor from improper handling of ropes or other external factors.
[025] The present invention provides a protection cover that ensures longevity and reliability in the protection of the EM log sensor.
[026] The present invention provides a modified flexible cable that reduces the amount of damage to the EM log sensor so that it is less likely to need to be replaced or recalibrated, resulting in substantial cost and time savings.
