A Protective Wearable Gear Against Airborne Particles With Ultraviolet C Sanitization Case

Abstract: According to recent study, masks help reduce the spread of COVID-19, especially followed with other measures such as social distancing and rigorous hygiene practices. N95 masks are special protective masks used to protect people from airborne transmission of droplet-based virus or bacteria, dust, polluted air, fibre particles, and allergy causing pollen. As at present all masks fail to protect eyes from virus particles, a reusable protective gear is designed to protect nose, eyes and mouth as a whole. The protective gear includes an adjustable spectacle frame designed for detachable face masks which can be sanitized by UV radiation in a portable UV sanitation box (case). The material finalized for design of the frame is Polyamide 12-Nylon 12 (UV stabilized) which is UV resistant (not degradable by UV). The material selected for the lens is trivex which is used in safety glasses of industrial standard. In addition, a portable UV sanitation box is designed so that the assembly of protective gear can be sanitized and reused. This box is equipped with UV lamps which emit UV rays in the range of 100-280 nm where peak germicidal activity occurs at 258nm to neutralize the virus.

Specification

TECHNICAL FIELD OF INVENTION
[05] The protective gear is uniquely designed to suit the facial structure of any individual. The mask has a filtering mechanism to prevent any airborne particles from being inhaled. The mask is accompanied with an Ultraviolet (UV) based sanitization embedded system which helps in disinfecting the mask and making it reusable.
BACKGROUND AND PROBLEM WITH EXISTING ART
[10] According to Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other health organizations, the number of people currently affected due to Coronavirus is in large amounts. Most common way these infections spread is through air directly or indirectly. The Healthcare Professionals and all the governments around the world are putting maximum efforts to curb the scenario. One of the precautionary measures suggested by the health departments and medical experts around the world is wearing a face cover mask along with hand sanitization and social / physical distancing.

[15] The mask- used by the people varies from a normal 3-plated mask to masks with high levels of filtration like N95, K99, PI 00. As the demand for higher grade masks is increasing among people, various manufacturing industries are struggling to meet the demand. One of the statistics as per the World Health Organization estimates that 89 million masks will be required every month, which can be met only by a 40% increase in the manufacturing. As per Centre for Disease Control (CDC), the higher grade masks and respirators are critical supplies and in such a scenario of shortage of masks, one of the available options is to reuse the mask specific number of times before it can be replaced.
[20] So, to ensure a germ free mask for every use, the sanitization of the mask is equally important. To acknowledge the above issues, we have developed a complete protective wearable gear which can be sanitized for reuse.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
In this invention, a unique mechanical protective wearable has been designed and developed to address the shortage of critical supplies (the masks) around the world. The device can be worn like how an individual wears spectacles.
[25] The spectacle provides protection to the user's eyes and at the same time, it has a shield-like structure which covers the nose and the mouth area on the face. The shield has a filtration unit that helps in filtering the air one breathes and helps in preventing any airborne threats like dust particles, bacteria and viruses. The wearable is designed such that it can be folded and kept inside a case. At the same time, the mask shield is designed such that it can be detached from the main frame. After every use, the wearable can be placed inside the case which is UV based and helps in sanitizing the frame and the mask.
LIST OF PREFERRED AND OPTIONAL FEATURES
1. An adjustable mechanical frame to fit the user's face
2. Detachable filtration mask unit.
3. UV sanitization case to disinfect the wearable.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
[30] The proposed adjustable protective wearable comprises the mechanical spectacle frame, the mask filtration unit attached to the frame and a UV based sanitization case. Materials like Polyamide-12 (Nylon-12), Zylonite and Stainless Steel were analyzed for designing the body of the gear. The material finalized for design of frame is Polyamide 12-Nylon 12 (UV stabilized) which is UV resistant (not degradable by UV), light weight (density: 1.04 g/cc), has good strength and can withstand up to 70-degree Celsius temperature.
[35] The material selected for the lens is trivex which is used in industry standard safety glasses. Trivex blocks UV radiation, is scratch resistant and has good strength. The filtration unit present in the gear is made up of N95 material to provide sufficient protection against minute particles including bacteria and viruses. The N95 material is detachable and can be replaced with a new one, once its lifetime has reached. The third unit is the UV sanitization case which is used to disinfect the overall gear. Studies have shown that UVGI at 258nm and exposures of 1 J/cm2 are capable of decontaminating influenza virus on N95 FFRs and exposures as low as of 2-5 mJ/cm2 are capable inactivating coronaviruses on surfaces (1-2) and requires an exposure of 300 mJ/cm2 for decontamination.
[40] Hence the entire case is calibrated to the prescribed range to ensure complete disinfection of the N95 Filtering Facepiece unit and spectacles. Once the sanitization process is completed, the gear is ready to be reused for the next 10-20 cycles.
