Abstract: ABSTRACT A DISINFECTANT DELIVERY DEVICE This invention provides a delivery device, which upon applying external pressure, like pushing releases the disinfectant to cover all the pain points including the regions of contact points. This surface mountable device is cost effective and can be refilled using replaceable refill of disinfectant(s).
We Claim
1. A disinfectant delivery device to effectively disinfect the user’s hand involuntary, comprising a fixed cassette (a), and a removable and replaceable refill (b), wherein the replaceable refill layer(b) is housed within the fixed cassette(a), optionally, the device is fitted with an absorbent pad (f) at the bottom of the surface layer that allows resting and positioning of the hand, and a reservoir (g) at the bottom of the replaceable refill (b).
2. The device as claimed in claim 1, wherein said fixed cassette (a) has two layers, a surface layer (c) for releasing the disinfectants from the refill through inbuilt slits (e) and a backing layer (d) to hold the cassette firmly to the desired substrate.
3. The device as claimed in claim 1, wherein said cassette is polymer based (of thickness ranging from 0.1 to 5 mm) and is liquid permeable via slits (e) which open when subjected to pressure, like touching or pushing its surface.
4. The device as claimed in claim 3, wherein said cassette is made up of polymers characterized with elasticity and stretchable materials selected from a group comprising of silicone, rubber or from stretchable fabrics like lycra, spandex.
5. The device as claimed in claim 4, wherein said fabric can be optionally coated with a hydrophobic material.
6. The device as claimed in claim 2, wherein said surface layer (c) can be additionally coated or impregnated with anti-fouling property eliciting nanoparticles like ZnO2, TiO2 or Ag doped TiO2.
7. The device as claimed in claim 2, wherein said slits are either horizontally or vertically positioned.
8. The device as claimed in claim 2, wherein said slit position is a combination of both horizontal and vertical positions.
9. The device as claimed in claim 1, wherein said replaceable refill (b) is made up of biodegradable materials selected from a group comprising of cellulose or non -degradable
materials like polyurethane, upholstery foam, cellulose foam, microfiber sponge, melamine foam, polyvinyl alcohol foam.
10. The device as claimed in claim 9, wherein said biodegradable material is characterized with porous structure and provide faster capillary action.
11. The device as claimed in claim 9, wherein said replaceable refill (b) the gravity effect in the refill units are nullified by dividing the reservoir into multiple chambers.
12. The device as claimed in claim 11, wherein said replaceable refill (b) is divided into four chambers.
13. The device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the replaceable refill(b) is fully loaded with the disinfectant.
14. The device as claimed in claim 1, wherein said reservoir (g) at the bottom of the device is loaded with disinfectant for feeding the attached refill through capillary action and to extend the refill use.
15. The device as claimed in claim 1, wherein said cassette is fitted with an optional electrode or a suitable sensor at a desired/strategic location to signal the presence of disinfectant to the backing layer (d).
16. The device as claimed in claim 15, wherein said backing layer (d) also contains the detector like moisture sensor, which is connected to the battery backed LED light that glows and signal the need for replacing the refill.
17. The device as claimed in claim 15, wherein said backing layer (d) forms part of the fixed cassette and include an attaching means for attaching the fixed cassette on the point of use surface, like two-sided adhesive tape, Velcro tape, etc.,
18. The device as claimed in claim 15, wherein said device can be used on door knobs, push plates and door handles with appropiate modification in size .
19. The device as claimed in claim 15, wherein said disinfectants are selected from a group comprising of 80% ethanol, sterilium, 70% isopropanol + 2% chlorohexidine and WHO recommended formulation-I (80% ethanol, v/v), glycerol 1.45%, v/v), hydrogen peroxide,
0.125%,v/v), WHO recommended formulation-II (75% isopropanol (v/v), glycerol (1.45%,v/v), hydrogen peroxide (0.125%,v/v) formulations.
20. The device as claimed in claim 1, effectively cover all the pain points and contact points of the user`s hands and is 100% efficient against common microorganisms like Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and other microbi al cultures with the bio-burden of 105CFU/ml.
21. The device as claimed in claim 15, wherein said devicealso renders the surface the device clean and devoid if microbes even after consecutive push to mitigate germ transfer.
