Specification

The present invention relates to a roller bed system for smooth loading/unloading of
skid or components from automated guided vehicle (AGV). Particularly, the roller bed system
consist of a series of rollers connected to each other by timing pulley belt and motor.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[002] In large industrial buildings/factories/warehouses, automated guided vehicles (AGVs)
are used in a wide variety of applications such as loading/unloading, transporting different
15 types of materials or moving and stacking of goods without human intervention. To transfer
the goods, motorized rollers or conveyors are used in the warehouses. Further, a separate
equipment/device is required in between AGV & roller bed for loading/unloading, transporting
or moving and stacking of goods on either sides.
20 [003] US7931431B2 discloses a material handling system for use in storing and moving
goods within multi-level storage warehouses, ocean going vessels and the like wherein storage
areas are provided on at least one of the levels and wherein goods are automatically transferred
to and from the storage areas and between the various levels by self-propelled load transfer
vehicles.
25
[004] CN210126852 discloses a roller-type AGV (automatic guided vehicle) which
comprises a vehicle body, a driving device and a roller-way device. The disclosed AGV dolly
has a roller way device arranged over AGV body which is used for bearing materials and
conveying the materials borne by the vehicle body to a specified position. Hence, the present
30 invention discloses the AGV which is equipped with Rollers on the AGV itself.
[005] Thus, there are various systems available for loading/unloading, transporting or moving
and stacking of goods. However, none of the earlier approaches discusses about roller bed
system which doesn’t require a separate equipment between AGV & roller bed for transfer of
35 goods. Further, the prior art also demands high maintenance.
3
5 [006] Therefore, keeping in view of the problems associated with the state of the art, there is
a requirement of roller bed system which provides smooth loading/unloading of Skid from AGV
without requirement of separate equipment between AGV and roller bed for transfer of goods.
OBJECTIVE OF THE INVENTION
10
[007] The primary objective of the present invention is to provide a roller bed system for
smooth loading/unloading of a skid from AGV in conveyor line.
[008] Another objective of the present invention is to provide a roller bed system which
15 enables the AGV to transfer skid without any separate transferring equipment.
[009] Other objects and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the
following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein, by way
of illustration and example, the aspects of the present invention are disclosed.
20
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0010] The present invention relates to a roller bed system which allows AGV movement
between the rollers in conveyor direction of AGV for smooth loading/unloading of skid or
25 components from AGV to roller bed and vice versa at various working stations in
factories/warehouses. The roller bed system consist comprises of of two equidistant frames, a
single driving motor and a rod wherein each frame is configured with a series of rollers
connected to each other by timing pulley belt. The driving motor drives the series of rollers of
the rolling bed system which enables movement of AGV for loading and unloading of the skid
30 without any separate transferring equipment.

purpose only and not for the purpose of limiting the invention.
[0018] It is to be understood that the singular forms “a,” “an,” and “the” include plural referents
unless the context clearly dictates otherwise.
35
[0019] It should be emphasized that the term “comprises/comprising” when used in this
specification is taken to specify the presence of stated features, integers, steps or components
but does not preclude the presence or addition of one or more other features, integers, steps,
5
5 components or groups thereof. The equations used in the specification are only for computation
purpose.
[0020] The present invention relates to a roller bed system for smooth loading and unloading
of skid (8) or components from automated guided vehicle (AGV) in conveyor lines placed in
10 large industrial buildings/factories/warehouses. The roller system allows AGVs (7) to pass
through them hence eliminates the requirement of a separate transferring equipment to reach
over the roller bed (6) working line for placing or receiving the skid (8).
[0021] The main embodiment of the present invention is shown in figure 1 which depicts the
15 arrangement of the roller bed system. The roller bed system consist of two equidistant frame
(1) configured with a series of rollers (2). The first roller of each frame is connected to each
other through a driving motor shaft (9). The roller assembly mounting frame (1) are made of a
strong metal or alloys such as steel. For instance, the roller assembly mounting frame may be
made up of mild steel sheet. The rollers (2) on individual frame (1) is connected to each other
20 through a timing pulley belt (3) which is further connected to a timing pulley. The timing pulley
is also made up of a strong metal or alloy such as steel, for instance, the timing pulley may be
made up of material selected from but not limited to mild steel. The timing pulley (5) is
mounted on the shaft of a single driving motor, the said shaft is connected to the first roller of
each frames (1). The driving motor used herein is an AC inline helical geared motor of 0.4
25 KW. Therefore, the driving motor (4) drives the series of rollers (2) of the rolling bed system
and allows movement of automated guided vehicle (AGV) for loading and unloading of the
skid (8). In a preferred embodiment, the skid is a fixture on which the CAB/Car or any
material/goods is rested. The skid comprises of two runner frames which are structural
members and travel on roller bed.
30
[0022] Figure 2a and 2b shows the movement of AGV (7) inside the roller bed system. The
roller bed system facilitates smooth loading and unloading of the skid (8) by allowing the AGV
(7) to enter the roller bed (6) area thereby loading and unloading the skid (8) with optimum accuracy
from AGV (7) to roller system and vice versa. The proposed roller system is preferable for a
35 specific type of AGVs (7) which has a vertical lifting arrangement.
[0023] In a preferred embodiment, an AGV (7) with the screw jack arrangement is considered
for the loading and unloading of the skid (8). The AGV (7) carries the skid (8) and travel to
6
5 different stations in the factories/warehouses for specific tasks. Each station has roller bed
system for loading and unloading of skid (8). At working stations, the AGV (7) enters inside
the rolling system to drop the skid (8) on the roller bed (6). The AGV’s screw jack moves
vertically down to smoothly place or unload the skid (8) over the roller bed (6). Once the skid
is placed over the roller bed (6), the motor (4) starts and the skid (8) is rolled towards the
10 working line of the station.
[0024] After unloading the skid (8) at the working station for the specific task, the AGV (7)
will move reverse and will move to get next skid (8). Further, utilizing the AGVs with Screw
Jack or vertical motion arrangement in Roller Bed system, makes the operation flexible, smooth
15 and demands less maintenance and cost. Hence, no separate transferring equipment is required
for transferring of skid (8) from the roller bed system to AGV (7) and vice versa.
[0025] While the present invention has been described with reference to one or more preferred
aspects, which aspects have been set forth in considerable detail for the purposes of making a
20 complete disclosure of the invention, such aspects are merely exemplary and are not intended
to be limiting or represent an exhaustive enumeration of all aspects of the invention. The scope
of the invention, therefore, shall be defined solely by the following claims. Further, it will be
apparent to those of skill in the art that numerous changes may be made in such details without
departing from the spirit and the principles of the invention.
