A Rotor For A Synchronous Machine

The invention relates to a rotor (14) for a synchronous machine (10), comprising a rotor core d(22) having an axis and a conduit (46) extending through the core (22) and perpendicular to the axis, wherein the conduit (46) has openings on opposite sides of the cores (22); comprising a super-conducting coil winding (34) extending around at least a protion of the rotor (14), said coil winding (34) having a side section (40) adjacent each of the opposite sides of the rotor core (22); at least one tension rod (42) extending through the conduit (46) in said rotor core (22), wherein said rod (42) extends through the openings on the opposite sides of the core (22) and opposite ends of the rod (42) are each adjacent a side section of the coil winding (34); and a housing (44) attached to each of the opposite end of the tension rod and connected to the side section of the coil winding, wherein the housing comprises a pair of side panels (124).
