Abstract: The present invention relates to a saddle type vehicle 100. The saddle type vehicle 100 comprising a head tube 208, a down tube 206, a rear frame assembly 204, and one or more electronic security device 300. The down tube 206 extending rearwardly from the head tube 208. The rear frame assembly 204 includes a pair of rear frames (204a, 204b), the rear frame assembly 204 extends rearwardly from the down tube 206. The one or more electronic security device 300 is mounted on one of the pair of rear frames (204a, 204b) such that the one or more electronic security device 300 is disposed on an outer side of the pair of rear frames (204a, 204b) in a vehicle width direction.
Description:FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0001] The present invention generally relates to a saddle type vehicle. More particularly, the present invention relates to disposition of an electronic security device in a saddle type vehicle.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0002] A conventional saddle type vehicle generally comprises of an internal combustion engine, and various electronic components including an electronic security device. Various components are mounted at different locations in the vehicle. The placement of those components like the electronic security device plays an important role, especially in saddle type vehicle where space utilization is of vital significance. Placing the electronic security device at a secured location so that the electronic security device is not being tampered by unauthorized personnel. The vehicle can be accessed and stolen if the electronic security device is visibly placed in the vehicle layout.
[0003] Making arrangements for cooling of the electronic security device is necessary and thus, it is desired that the electronic security device is placed in such a location which ensures that the air at ambient temperature flows towards the electronic security device. Further, it is vital that the electronic security device is positioned such that its performance is not affected by hot air released by the internal combustion engine which operates at relatively higher temperature and dissipates more heat. Exposure of the electronic security device to high heat may lead to exposure of internal circuit of the electronic security device to high heat and improper cooling will lead to degradation and poor performance of the electronic security device.
[0004] Further, the electronic security device can be exposed to dust, dirt, and water ingress, and prone to stagnant issues resulting in malfunctioning of the electronic security device. Apart from this, the electronic security device should be placed in a location which is easily serviceable, accessible to a user, and easy to assemble. Apart from this, there is a need to mount the electronic security device compactly at a secured location.
[0005] In addition, the conventional positioning of the electronic security device on an inner side of one or more seat rails and below a seat affects the serviceability of the electronic security device as access to the electronic security device by the user becomes difficult.
[0006] Thus, there is a need in the art for a saddle type vehicle which can address at least the aforementioned problems.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0007] In one aspect, the present invention discloses a saddle type vehicle comprising a head tube, a down tube, a rear frame assembly, and one or more electronic security device. The down tube extending rearwardly from the head tube. The rear frame assembly includes a pair of rear frames, the rear frame assembly extends rearwardly from the main tube. The one or more electronic security device is mounted on one of the pair of rear frames such that the one or more electronic security device is disposed on an outer side of the pair of rear frames in a vehicle width direction.
[0008] In an embodiment of the invention, the the pair of rear frames includes a left rear frame and a right rear frame extending rearwardly from the main tube. A left side cover covering along the left rear frame in a vehicle front rear direction, and a right side cover extending along the right rear frame in the vehicle front rear direction.
[0009] In an embodiment of the invention, the one or more electronic security device is mounted on the left rear frame and the one or more electronic security device is disposed between the left rear frame and the left side cover in the vehicle width direction.
[0010] In an embodiment of the invention, the electronic security device is mounted on the left seat rail and the electronic security device is disposed between the left seat rail and the left side cover in the vehicle width direction.
[0011] In another embodiment of the invention, the one or more electronic security device is mounted on the right rear frame and the one or more electronic security device is disposed between the right rear frame and the right side cover in the vehicle width direction.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0001] Various features and embodiments of the present invention here will be discernible from the following further description thereof, set out hereunder.
[0002] The present invention generally relates to a saddle type vehicle and particularly relates to disposition of an electronic component in a saddle type vehicle. In the ensuing exemplary embodiments, the saddle type vehicle 100 is a step through vehicle. However, it is contemplated that the disclosure in the present invention may be applied to any automobile like a motorcycle or any other saddle type vehicle capable of accommodating the present subject matter without defeating the scope of the present invention. The term ‘vehicle’ has been used below for referring to the term ‘step through vehicle’ in favour of brevity.
[0003] Fig. 1 illustrates a left side view of an exemplary two wheeled vehicle 100, in accordance with an embodiment of the invention. The vehicle 100 comprises a front wheel 112, a rear wheel 108, a frame structure (not shown) and a rider seat 102. The frame structure includes a head tube 208 (shown in fig.2a), a down tube 206 (shown in fig.2a), and rear frame assembly 204 (shown in fig.2a). A headlamp 118 and an instrument cluster 202 are arranged on an upper portion of the head tube 208. A front suspension 120 coupled to a steering shaft (not shown) which is provided at a front of the vehicle 100, and the front wheel 112 is supported by the front suspension 120. An upper portion of the front wheel 112 is covered by a front fender 122 mounted to a lower portion of the front suspension 120. A handlebar 116 is operatively coupled to the steering shaft and can rotate about the head tube 208 for steering the vehicle 100.
[0004] The vehicle 100 includes a prime mover 110 that is adapted to provide motive force for movement of the vehicle 100. In an embodiment, the prime mover 110 is an internal combustion engine. The down tube 206 (shown in fig.2a) extends downward from the head tube 208 in a slanting manner. The rear frame assembly 204 is positioned in front of the prime mover 110. A swingarm is connected to the frame structure to swing vertically, and a rear wheel 108 is connected to a rear end (not shown) of the swingarm. The swingarm 214 is coupled to the vehicle 100 by a rear suspension 216 at a position rearwardly of a pivot point (not shown) of the swingarm 214 on the frame structure of the vehicle 100. A taillight 126 is disposed at a rear of the rider seat 102. A grab rail 104 is also provided to a seat rails at a rear of the seat 102. The rear wheel 108 arranged below the rider seat 102 rotates by motive force generated by the prime mover 110 transmitted through a transmission 218. A rear fender 124 is disposed above the rear wheel 108.
[0005] Fig. 2(a) illustrates a side view of a saddle type frame structure, in accordance with an embodiment of the invention, with few parts shown. Fig. 2(b) illustrates a side perspective view of the saddle type frame structure, in accordance with an embodiment of the invention. Fig.2(a) and fig.2(b) shall be discussed together. As illustrated, one or more electronic security device 300 is mounted on one of the pair of the rear frames 204. The one or more electronic security device 300 is disposed on an outer side of the pair of rear frames 204 in a vehicle width direction.
[0006] In an embodiment, the electronic component 300 is an electronic security device. In an embodiment, the electronic security device 300 being an immobilizer unit which is configured for immobilizing the saddle type vehicle 100.
[0007] In the present embodiment, a left side cover 128 extends along the left rear frame 204a, covering the left rear frame 204a in a vehicle front rear direction. A right side cover (not shown) extends along the right rear frame 204b (shown in fig.3) covering the right rear frame 204b in the vehicle front rear direction.
[0008] In the present embodiment, the one or more electronic security device 300 is mounted on the right rear frame 204b and the one or more electronic security device 300 is disposed between the right rear frame 204b and the right side cover in the vehicle width direction.
[0009] In an alternate embodiment, the one or more electronic security device 300 is mounted on the left rear frame 204a and the one or more electronic security device 300 is disposed between the left rear frame 204a and the left side cover 128 in the vehicle width direction.
[0010] In an alternative embodiment, the electronic security device 300 is mounted on the left rear frame 204a and is disposed between the left rear frame 204a and the left side cover 128 in the vehicle width direction. In present embodiment, the electronic security device 300 is mounted on the right rear frame 204b and is disposed between the right rear frame 204b and the right side cover in the vehicle width direction. The mounting of the electronic security device 300 between the left rear frame 204a and the left side cover 128, or the right rear frame 204b and the right side cover ensures that the electronic security device 300 is disposed in a secure location and is protected from dust and water ingress. Further, such a disposition ensures that the electronic security device 300, more specifically the electronic security device 300, can be accessed simply by removing the left side cover 128 or the right side cover, ensuring easy access and better serviceability of the electronic security device 300.
[0011] In a further embodiment, the saddle type vehicle 100 has a rider seat 102 that is supported on the pair of rear frame assembly 204 and the electronic security device 300 is disposed under the rider seat 102. As shown in Fig. 2(a) and 2(b), the electronic security device 300 is disposed rearwardly and upwardly of the internal combustion engine 110. The electronic security device 300 is disposed under the rider seat 102 to ensure that the air at ambient temperature flows towards electronic security device 300. Further, the disposition of the electronic security device 300 ensures that performance of the electronic security device 300 is not affected by hot air released by the internal combustion engine 110 which operates at relatively higher temperatures and dissipates more heat.
[0012] In an embodiment, the electronic security device 300 is tilted at a predefined angle with respect to the pair of rear frames 204 in the saddle type vehicle 100. In an exemplary embodiment, the electronic security device 300 is tilted towards a front of the vehicle 100 with respect to the pair of rear frames 204 and the predefined angle ranges between 2 degrees to 179 degrees. The titling of the electronic security device 300 ensures that water or dust does not get accumulated in one or more connector of the electronic security device 300, preventing the electronic security device 300 from degradation. Such a tilt also allows for easier connection of the electronic security device 300 to main harness (not shown). Furthermore, the tilting of the electronic security device 300 towards the front of the vehicle 100 with respect to the pair of rear frames 204 ensures better airflow and thus helps in cooling of the electronic security device 300 for better performance.
[0013] In an embodiment, the one or more electronic security device 300 is mounted on the pair of rear frames 204, perpendicular to ground.
[0014] Fig. 3 illustrates a right side perspective view of a frame assembly of the two wheeled vehicle 100, in accordance with an embodiment of the invention. The electronic security device 300 being the immobilizer unit, comprises at least a rubber element 302 for holding the electronic security device 300 on to the left rear frame 204a or the right rear frame 204b. The rubber element 302 absorbs the vibrations thus protecting the electronic security device 300 from the vibration of the saddle type vehicle 100. The electronic security device 300 further includes one or more connectors 304 and wires for connecting the electronic security device 300 to the main harness.
[0015] To allow for such a tilted mounting of the electronic security device 300 on the vehicle 100, in an embodiment, a mounting bracket 306 is provided for mounting the electronic security device 300 on at least one of the pair of rear frames 204. The mounting bracket 306 is mounted on at least one of the pair of rear frames 204 by any fastening means known in the art. The mounting bracket 306 is configured to receive and hold the electronic security device 300, thereby securely mounting the electronic security device 300 to the left rear frame 204a or the right rear frame 204b. The one or more mounting bracket 306 being a V-shaped bracket for mounting the one or more electronic security device 300 on the pair of rear frames 204. The V-shaped bracket 306 is configured to mount the rubber element 302 holding the one or more electronic security device 300 at one end and another end of the one or more electronic security device 300 configured to mount the one or more electronic security device 300 on the pair of rear frames 204. However, the shape of the one or more mounting bracket 306 may change based on the change in requirement and design of the one or more electronic security device 300. The one or more mounting bracket 306 is configured to route the one or more wires (not shown) of the one or more electronic security device 300.
[0016] Advantageously, the present invention provides a saddle type vehicle 100 in which the electronic security device 300 is disposed on an outer side of the pair of rear frames 204 in a vehicle width direction. As the present invention provides a location for mounting the electronic security device 300 which protects it from water and dust ingress. The present invention also ensures the minimum impact on nearby parts style panels as it doesn’t hinder the serviceability requirements. The disposition of the electronic security device 300 under the rider seat 102 ensures that the air at ambient temperature flows towards electronic security device 300 and its performance is not affected by hot air released by the internal combustion engine 110.
[0017] Fig. 4 illustrates a side view of one or more electronic security device 300, in accordance with an embodiment of the invention. The one or more electronic security device 300 is provided with the one or more connector 304 to connect the one or more security device 300 with the main harness (not shown). The one or more connector 304 emerges from a rear end of the one or more electronic security device 300, when the one or more electronic security device 300 being mounted on the rear frames 204, in perpendicular direction with respect to the ground.
[0018] The disposition of the electronic security device 300 in the abovementioned location ensures that it reduces the complexity of wire routing from a main branch of wiring harness and hence, also reduces the cost. Further, the present invention ensures that the electronic security device 300 or the immobilizer unit can be accessed simply by removing the left side cover 128 or the right side cover, ensuring easy access and better serviceability of the immobilizer unit.
[0019] The tilted orientation also ensures the minimum impact on nearby parts style panels, while protecting the electronic security device 300 from any dust and water ingress. The location of the electronic security device 300 ensures that there is no hinderance to the other serviceability requirements such as cylinder head cover removability, spark plug servicing, Ignition coil placement, deflector placement, tappet adjusting etc. of the internal combustion engine.

1. A saddle type vehicle (100), the saddle type vehicle (100) comprising:
a head tube (208);
a down tube (206) extending rearwardly from the head tube (208);
a rear frame assembly (204), the rear frame assembly (204) includes a pair of rear frames, wherein the rear frame assembly (204) extends rearwardly from the down tube (206); and
one or more electronic security device (300) being mounted on one of the pair of rear frames (204a, 204b), wherein the one or more electronic security device (300) being disposed on an outer side of the pair of rear frames (204a, 204b) in a vehicle width direction.
2. The saddle type vehicle (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the pair of rear frames (204a, 204b) includes a left rear frame (204a) and a right rear frame (204b) extending rearwardly from the down tube (206).
3. The saddle type vehicle (100) as claimed in claim 2, comprising a left side cover (128) covering along the left rear frame (204a) in a vehicle front rear direction, and a right side cover extending along the right rear frame (204b) in the vehicle front rear direction.

The saddle type vehicle (100) as claimed in claim 3, wherein the one or more electronic security device (300) is mounted on the left rear frame (204a) and the one or more electronic security device (300) is disposed between the left rear frame (204a) and the left side cover (128) in the vehicle width direction.

The saddle type vehicle (100) as claimed in claim 3, wherein the one or more electronic security device (300) is mounted on the right rear frame (204b) and the one or more electronic security device (300) is disposed between the right rear frame (204b) and the right side cover in the vehicle width direction.
6. The saddle type vehicle (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the one or more electronic security device (300) is provided with a rubber element (302), the rubber element (302) is holding the one or more electronic security device (300).
7. The saddle type vehicle (100) as claimed in claim 1, comprising one or more mounting bracket (306) for mounting the one or more electronic security device (300) on the pair of rear frames (204a, 204b).

The saddle type vehicle (100) as claimed in claim 7, wherein the one or more mounting bracket (306) being a V-shaped bracket for mounting the one or more electronic security device (300) on the pair of rear frames (204a, 204b), the V-shaped bracket (306) configured to mount the rubber element (302) holding the one or more electronic security device (300) at one end and another end of the one or more electronic security device (300) configured to mount the one or more electronic security device (300) on the pair of rear frames (204a, 204b).
9. The saddle type vehicle (100) as claimed in claim 8, wherein the one or more mounting bracket (306) being configured to route one or more wires of the one or more electronic security device (300).
10. The saddle type vehicle (100) as claimed in the claim 1, comprising a rider seat (102) supported on the pair of rear frames (204a, 204b), wherein the one or more electronic security device (300) is disposed under the rider seat (102).
11. The saddle type vehicle (100) as claimed in the claim 1, wherein the one or more electronic security device (300) is disposed rearwardly and upwardly of the internal combustion engine (110).
12. The saddle type vehicle (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the one or more electronic security device (300) is tilted at a predefined angle with respect to the pair of rear frames (204a, 204b) in the saddle type vehicle (100).
13. The saddle type vehicle (100) as claimed in claim 12, wherein the one or more electronic security device (300) is tilted towards a front of the saddle type vehicle (100) with respect to the pair of rear frames (204a, 204b) and the predefined angle ranges between 2o to 179o.
14. The saddle type vehicle (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the one or more electronic security device (300) is an immobilizer unit for immobilizing the saddle type vehicle (100).
15. The saddle type vehicle (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the one or more electronic security device (300) is mounted on the pair of rear frames (204a, 204b), perpendicular to ground.
16. The saddle type vehicle (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the one or more electronic security device (300) includes one or more connector (304), the one or more connector (304) emerges from a rear end of the one or more electronic security device (300).
