A Scooter Type Motorcycle

Abstract: The present subject matter relates to a dashboard (207) for a scooter type motorcycle. The scooter type motorcycle comprises a dashboard (207) disposed in between a handlebar assembly (108) and an instrument cluster (201). The dashboard (207) includes at least one slot (203) elongated in a vehicle transverse direction (PQ) and extending up to a length (207aa) equivalent to at least one side length (201a, 201b) of the instrument cluster (201). The at least one slot (203) is configured to receive one or more connecting wires (204) from a dock holder capable of holding a docking member. The dock holder is disposed at a close proximity to the at least one slot (203). The at least one slot (203) is disposed in a plane (mn) situated lower than another plane (lr) including the instrument cluster (201) and the handlebar assembly (108).

DESC:TECHNICAL FIELD
[0001] The present subject matter relates generally to a scooter type motorcycle, more particularly but not exclusively, the present invention relates to a dashboard of the scooter type motorcycle.
BACKGROUND
[0002] Generally, in a two-wheeled vehicle, a handlebar assembly is provided at a front end of the vehicle. The rider to handle the vehicle on road during vehicle riding condition and during vehicle idling condition uses the handlebar assembly. The handlebar assembly also houses a number of various other buttons/switches required by the user to control the vehicle. The switches for accessing the headlamp, turn signal lamps, and other essential parts are disposed on various locations on the handlebar assembly. Further, a dashboard also houses an instrument cluster displaying various vehicular data. Hence, the dashboard is present at proximity to the rider and in front of the rider for the rider to be visible. Further, any other instruments displaying any vehicular data for reference by the rider is placed on the dashboard.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0008] In recent days, with the advent of technology, display devices have become prominent, for example, communication devices have become an indispensable part of human life. The essential vehicular data for reference by the user is displayed by the communication device used by the rider. There has been a raise in the number of accidents caused due to rider’s diversion of attention for answering an incoming call in the communication device. Hence, there is a necessity to provide an appropriate docking location and arrangement for the communication device on the vehicle, which will allow the rider to access the communication device without his attention being diverted from the road. Further, various wires to connect one or more electrical components are used and it is always desirable to hide the wires that are used to connect the electrical components. The body panels enclose most of the connecting wires. However, the dashboard, in particular cases may contain various other electrical components with one or more connecting wires. Hence, in order to cover these connecting wires, a routing slot has to be provided in proximity of the dashboard.
[0009] According to an embodiment, the present invention provides a dashboard, which includes a slidable docking station for the placement of the communication device. In an embodiment, the dashboard of the present invention also enables wire routing through a slot provided approximately on the dashboard that enables routing from the instrument cluster.
[00010] Further, according to an embodiment, to provide a theft proof feature to the vehicle, the present invention also provides a feature on the dashboard for the user interface to communicate with the smart key at the user end.
[00011] Fig. 1 illustrates a side view of the scooter type motorcycle according to an embodiment of the present invention. The vehicle has a body frame assembly made up of several tubes welded together, which usually supports the body of the said vehicle. The vehicle has a steerable front wheel 101 and a driven rear wheel 102. The body frame assembly of the vehicle is an elongated structure, which typically extends from a forward end to a rearward end of the vehicle. The frame assembly includes a head tube (not shown), a main frame and may have a sub-frame. The frame assembly is covered by a plurality of vehicle body covers including a front panel 103, a rear cover 104, and one or more side panel(s).
[00012] A handlebar assembly 108 and a seat assembly 109 are supported at opposite ends of the frame assembly and a generally open area is defined there between known as floorboard 110 that functions as a step through space. The seat assembly 109 for a driver and a pillion is placed rear side of a floorboard 110. A docking station 116 is provided at one end of the handlebar assembly 108. A storage compartment (not seen) is disposed below the seat assembly 109 for the user to store any articles/ any vehicular accessories can be mounted in the storage compartment. A front fender 111 is provided above the front wheel 101 to avoid the said vehicle and its occupants from being splashed with mud. Likewise, a rear fender 112 is placed behind the rear wheel 102, and to the outer side in the radial direction of the rear wheel 102. The rear fender 102 inhibits rainwater or the like from being thrown up by the rear wheel 102.
[00013] Suspensions are provided for comfortable riding of the vehicle on the road. A front suspension assembly 113 including a pair of front forks is disposed on either side of the front wheel 101. The rear suspension assembly comprises of at least one rear shock absorber 105 preferably on the left side of the vehicle. However, a vehicle with two rear suspensions, namely on the left side and the right side is also possible. For the safety of the user and in conformance with the traffic rules, a headlight 114 in the front portion of the vehicle and a tail light 115 in the rear portion of the vehicle is also provided.
[00014] Fig. 2 illustrates a top view of a portion of front end of the scooter type motorcycle featuring a dashboard. According to an embodiment of the present invention, a handlebar assembly 108 is disposed behind the dashboard. The handlebar assembly 108 includes a number of switches 202 to control various peripheral devices including the headlamp 114, one or more turn signal lamps, and horn. The dashboard also houses an instrument cluster 201 to display various vehicular data as required by the user. Further, according to an embodiment of the present invention, at least one slot 203 is situated behind the instrument cluster 201. The at least one 203 is provided at proximity to the instrument cluster 201, such that easy routing of the plurality of connecting wires 204 is enabled.
[00015] According to an embodiment of the present invention, the connecting wires 204 emerging out of the switches 202 are routed through the at least one slot 203. Hence, the at least one slot 203 facilitates easy routing of the connecting wires 204.
[00016] Further, according to another embodiment of the present invention, the dashboard also comprises of an interfacing device to facilitating to communicate with the user end. The interfacing device, for example comprises of a receiver constantly scanning for incoming signals from a smart key at the user end. The smart key includes a transmitter transmitting signals to the receiver at the vehicle end. The interfacing device is located just below the handlebar assembly 108 and at the center above the glove box 206.
[00017] According to another embodiment, the interfacing device is located on the rear cover 104. The interfacing device is disposed behind the rear cover 104. Further, according to an embodiment, the rear cover 104 comprises of a push button 205. The push button 205 is used in the vehicle as a safety measure while accessing the vehicle. For example, the smart key at the user end is preloaded with a predetermined code that is transmitted to the interfacing device at the vehicle end. The predetermined code is received and identified by the interfacing device only. The interfacing device identifies the predetermined code received and if the received predetermined code matches with the code preloaded at the vehicle end, further processing takes place. Further, after the code matches, the vehicle can be accessed by the user. Hence, only the rider with the smart key including a matching code can access the vehicle. Further, according to the present invention, accessing the vehicle is easier as compared to the conventional vehicles. In the present invention, the rider need not insert the key inside the steering lock to access the vehicle. The smart key remains with the user and it is possible to access the vehicle by pressing the push button by the rider. Further, by pressing the push button, the engine of the vehicle is started. Hence, the usage of the vehicle is made convenient to the rider by the present invention.
[00018] According to another embodiment of the present invention, the at least one slot 203 is disposed in a plane mn situated below another plane lr comprising the handlebar assembly 108 and the instrument cluster 201. Therefore, the at least one slot 203 is situated in between the handlebar assembly 108 and the instrument cluster 201, but at a lower plane mn. Because of which, the at least one slot 203 will not obstruct the view of the instrument cluster 201 when viewed by the rider.
[00019] Furthermore, according to another embodiment of the present invention, the at least one slot 203 extends to almost a length 207aa equivalent to at least a side length 201a, 201b of the instrument cluster 201. Further, the at least one slot 203 is disposed at a close proximity to the dock holder, which facilitates easier routing of the one or more connecting wires 204.
[00020] Further, according to yet another embodiment of the present invention, the at least one slot 203 is disposed in at least said third position is a middle portion 207a of the dashboard 207 and said fourth position is any one of a right dashboard portion 207b and a left dashboard portion 207c.
[00021] Fig. 3 illustrates a front perspective view of a portion of the scooter type motorcycle. The handlebar assembly 108 is disposed in the front portion of the vehicle. The handlebar assembly 108 comprises of one or more switches 202 for controlling other peripheral devices provided for the safety of the vehicle. The safety devices include headlamp unit, one or more turn signal lamps. Further, an instrument cluster 201 displaying the essential vehicular data is disposed in front of the handlebar assembly 108 at the vicinity of the rider. In particular, for the purpose of rider’s convenience, it may also be possible that the vehicular data is made available in the communication device used by the rider. Hence, it is essential that a display device or any other communicating devices be provided at proximity to the rider. The rider can get the vehicular data for his/her reference on the communication device itself. Hence, a provision for holding the communication device is to be provided in the vehicle itself.
[00022] According to an embodiment of the present invention, a dock holder 301 is mounted on the handlebar assembly 108. The dock holder 301 is mounted on the handlebar assembly 108 such that the dock holder 301 is at proximity to the rider. Further, the dock holder 301 holds a docking member 302 capable of holding a communication device used by the rider.
[00023] According to another embodiment of the present invention, the dock holder 301 is disposed in at least one of a first position, second position and a third position. The first position 108a, 108b includes at least one of a right side portion 108a and a left side portion 108b of the handlebar assembly 108 and said second position 108c includes a central portion of the handlebar assembly 108.
[00024] Fig. 4 illustrates a rear perspective view of the handlebar assembly. The handlebar assembly 108 is mounted to a vehicle frame assembly at. The docking member 302 is mounted near the mounting end of the handlebar assembly. According to the present embodiment, the docking member 302 is mounted on the right hand side of the handlebar assembly 108. However, the docking member 302 could also be mounted on the left hand side of the handlebar assembly 108 according to another embodiment. The objective of the present invention is to display the essential vehicular data on the communication device used by the user and the communication device is situated at a proximity to the rider as per rider’s convenience.

[00026] Although the subject matter has been described in considerable detail with reference to certain embodiments thereof, other embodiments are possible. It is to be understood that the aspects of the embodiments are not necessarily limited to the features described herein.
,CLAIMS:I/We claim:
1. A scooter type motorcycle (100) comprising:
a front portion (F) and a rear portion (R);
a handlebar assembly (108) disposed in said front portion (F) of said scooter type motorcycle (100);
an instrument cluster (201) disposed forwardly and at a close proximity to said handlebar assembly (108); and
one or more switches (202) disposed on said handlebar assembly (108),
wherein,
a dashboard (207) is disposed between said handlebar assembly (108) and said instrument cluster (201), said dashboard (207) includes at least one slot (203) elongated in a vehicle transverse direction (PQ) and extending up to a length (207aa) equivalent to at least one side length (201a, 201b) of said instrument cluster (201), said at least one slot (203) is disposed at a plane (mn) situated below another plane (lr) including said instrument cluster (201) and said handlebar assembly (108).
2. The scooter type motorcycle (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein said handlebar assembly (108) is configured to support a dock holder (301) in at least one of a first position (108a, 108b) and a second position (108c), said dock holder (301) is capable of holding a docking member (302), and wherein said at least one slot (203) is capable of receiving one or more connecting wires (204) from said instrument cluster (201), said dock holder (301) and said docking member (302).
3. The scooter type motorcycle (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein said at least one slot (203) is disposed at a proximity to said dock holder (301).
4. The scooter type motorcycle (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein said first position (108a, 108b) includes at least one of a right side portion (108a) and a left side portion (108b) of the handlebar assembly (108) and said second position (108c) includes a central portion of the handlebar assembly (108).
5. The scooter type motorcycle (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein said dock holder (301) is fixedly attached to a docking member (302).
6. The scooter type motorcycle (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein said dock holder (301) is detachably attached to a docking member (302).
7. The scooter type motorcycle (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein said docking member (302) is capable of receiving at least one communication device including a hand held device, a mobile phone, a GPS.
8. The scooter type motorcycle (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein said at least one slot (203) is disposed on said dashboard (207) in any one of a third position and a fourth position.
9. The scooter type motorcycle (100) as claimed in claim 8, wherein said third position is a middle portion (207a) of the dashboard (207) and said fourth position is any one of a right dashboard portion (207b) and a left dashboard portion (207c).
10. The scooter type motorcycle (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein said one or more switches (202) include controls for safety devices like a headlamp unit and one or more turn signal lamps.
