A Screwless Cover Mechanized With A Lock

Abstract: The invention involves a housing structure mainly intended for the use in electrical enclosures. The novelty of this housing facility resides in the use of a screwless cover 1 to which a lock 2 is mechanically integrated thus forming a unit which provides a convenient and cost effective approach to assemble covers onto enclosures. The exclusive mechanism of the lock 2 makes the need of a handle unnecessary. A combination of all these features provides a ground breaking product which is processed in a unique method thus presenting a cutting edge facility to the modern industry.

Specification

We Claim:
1. A cover 1 intended to be used for enclosing any side of an electrical housing
structure, comprising:
a. hexagonal cut-outs 3 at least on top and bottom inward vertical bends of the
cover;
b. insert brackets with hexagonal heads to receive the hexagonal cut-outs 3 of the
cover;
c. a lock 2 with a locking disk 5 of which the center axis has an oflF-set with
reference to the center axis of the lock;
d. a fastening nut 6 that is used to fix the lock to the cover 1;
e. a locking bracket 7 inside which the locking disk 5 rotates and facilitates locking
and unlocking operation of the cover 1;
f and a key used to rotate the locking disk 5 to lock and unlock the cover.
2. The cover 1 intended to be used for enclosing any side of an electrical housing
structure is mechanized with a lock 2 comprising:
a. a locking disk 5 of which the center axis has an off-set with reference to the
center axis of the lock;
b. a fastening nut 6 that is used to fix the lock to the cover 1;
c. a locking bracket 7 inside which the locking disk 5 rotates and facilitates locking
and unlocking operation of the cover 1;
d. and a key used to rotate the locking disk 5 to lock and unlock the cover.
3. The cover in accordance to claim 1 is characterized in which the screwless cover
1 has an inward bend on all its sides where irregular hexagonal cut-outs 3 have been
cut through on the vertical inward bends.
4. The cover in accordance to the previous claims is characterized in which insert
brackets with hexagonal heads to receive the irregular hexagonal cut-outs 3 of the
cover to provide rigid mounting on to frame members of an electrical housing
structure.
5. The cover 1 in accordance to claim 1 is characterized that the lock 2 of which the
7
centre axis of the locking disc 5 has an offset with reference to the centre axis of the
lock 2 when they are fixed together.
6. The cover in accordance to claim 1 is characterized in which the height of the
screwless cover 1 ranges from around the minimum to the maximum height of an
electrical housing structure to which the screwless cover 1 is intended to be assembled,
thus allowing a minimum of one screwless cover 1 to be assembled to one side of the
electrical housing structure.
7. The cover in accordance to claim 1 is characterized in which the width of the
screwless cover 1 is approximately equal to the width of an electrical housing
structure to which the screwless cover 1 is intended to be assembled.
8. The cover in accordance to claims 2 and 5 is characterized with a lock in which
when unlocking the screwless cover 1 with the use of a key, the locking disc 5 rotates
and due to the offset it strikes the bottom of the locking bracket 7, thus pushing the
screwless cover 1 upwards and allowing for rotational space for the locking disc 5;
where at this instance the irregular hexagonal cut-outs 3 disengage from the insert
brackets which are attached to an electrical housing structure, allowing the screwless
cover 1 to be dis-assembled from the electrical housing structure.
9. The cover in accordance to the previous claim is characterized in which when the
locking disc 5 unlocks, behind the locking bracket 7 a clicking sound is emitted as a
result of the locking disc 5 clipping the top or bottom surface of the locking bracket 7,
thus ensuring that the screwless cover 1 is ready to be dismantled.
10. The cover in accordance to the previous claim is characterized in which during
dismantling of the screwless cover 1, the key which is used to rotate the lock 2 is used
to lift the screwless cover 1 out of an electrical housing structure at the instance when
the irregular hexagonal cut-outs 3 have been disengaged from the insert brackets
which are attached to the electrical housing structure.
11. The cover in accordance to claim 1 is characterized in which during assembling
of the screwless cover 1 the locking disc 5 is rotated and locks behind the locking
bracket 7 only if the irregular hexagonal cut-outs 3 are rigidly engaged on to the insert
brackets which are attached to an electrical housing structure.
8
12. The cover in accordance to the previous claim is characterized in which when the
locking disc 5 locks behind the locking bracket 7 a clicking sound is emitted as a
result of the locking disc 5 clipping the top or bottom surface of the locking bracket 7,
thus ensuring that the screwless cover 1 is being properly assembled.
13. The cover in accordance to claims 6 to 10 is characterized in which the lock 2 is
locked or unlocked by using the key to rotate the lock 2 in either a clockwise or
anticlockwise direction and no restriction in the direction of which the lock 2 should
function.
14. A method of making a cover 1 intended to be used for enclosing any side of an
electrical housing structure, comprising:
a. hexagonal cut-outs 3 at least on top and bottom inward vertical bends of the
cover;
b. insert brackets with hexagonal heads to receive the hexagonal cut-outs 3 of the
cover;
c. a lock 2 of which a locking disk 5 having an off-set with reference to center of its
axis;
d. a fastening nut 6 that is used to fix the lock 2 to the cover 1;
e. a locking bracket 7 inside which the locking disk 5 rotates and facilitates locking
and unlocking operation of the cover 1;
f and a key used to rotate the locking disk 5 to lock and unlock the cover 1.
15. A method of making a cover in accordance to the claim 2 is characterized in
which the locking disc 5 is assembled to the lock 2 so that the centre axis of the
locking disc 5 has an offset with reference to the centre axis of the lock 2.
