Abstract: ABSTRACT A seal for covering holes of a vehicle frame The present invention relates to a seal (100) for covering holes in a vehicle frame, and is useful for sound dampening/insulation and water, air and dust insulation. The seal comprises: a first overlay layer (110) of coated glass fabric; and a second overlay layer (120) of rubber-based polymeric material having a top side and a bottom side. The top side of the second overlay layer is bonded with the first overlay layer and the bottom side is adaptable/applied to the vehicle frame. The first overlay layer and the second overlay layer are configurable to overlay the hole and area surrounding the hole. The glass fabric is preferably knitted, and coated with PTFE or acrylic. The seal of the present invention exceeds the performance of the existing products, is more durable, cost effective and user friendly. Selected drawing: Figure 1

Description:FORM 2 THE PATENTS ACT, 1970 As amended by the Patents (Amendment) Act, 2002 and The Patents Rules, 2003 As amended by the Patents (Amendment) Rules 2016 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION (Section 10 and Rule 13) TITLE OF THE INVENTION A seal for covering holes of a vehicle frame APPLICANT MAHINDRA & MAHINDRA LIMITED, an Indian company, having its address at Mahindra Research Valley, Mahindra World City, Plot No:41/1, Anjur P.O., Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu – 603004, India PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION The following specification particularly describes the invention and the manner in which it is to be performed FIELD OF THE INVENTION [001] The invention relates to a seal to cover holes of a vehicle frames. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION [002] During production of a vehicle frame multiple holes are provided at different parts of the vehicle frame. The holes serve multiple purposes during production such as a drain for cathodic electro-deposition paint for application of an anti-corrosive coating, provision of accessibility during assembly, and provision of cables. Though the holes are very essential during the production, it is equally imperative to seal these holes properly with suitable grommets or plugs in the subsequent processes so as to avoid entry of dust or leakage of air or water in cabin. Sealing is also necessary to reduce/prevent outside noise and engine noise from entering the cabin. In order to solve the aforementioned problem, rubber or plastic grommets are being used to close the holes in the vehicle frame. However, the rubber or plastic grommets presently being used are not suitable for the production stages of the vehicle such as high temperature/pressure processes, pre-treatment processes resulting in undesirable reactions to alkali and acid solutions, cathodic electro deposition, and corrosion prevention. Further, these rubber or plastic grommets provide improper sealing at contour surfaces which allows entry of air, water, and noise leading to customer dissatisfaction. In other words, the rubber or plastic grommets being currently used fail to provide external element insulation, noise dampening, vibration and harshness (NVH) insulation and optimum acoustic performance which is undesirable. Further, these conventionally used grommets/plugs require special sheet metal dies for making different geometries, complex technical construction for different dimensions and high investment costs for new molding tools. [003] Thus, there is a need to overcome at least the aforementioned problems of the prior art. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION [004] In one aspect, the present invention relates to a seal for covering a hole in vehicle frame, the seal comprising a first overlay layer of coated glass fabric; and a second overlay layer of rubber-based polymeric material having a top side and a bottom side, the top side bonded with the first overlay layer and the bottom side adaptable/applied to the vehicle frame, the first overlay layer and the second overlay layer configurable to overlay the hole and area surrounding the hole. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS [005] Reference will be made to embodiments of the invention, examples of which may be illustrated in accompanying figures. These figures are intended to be illustrative, not limiting. Although the invention is generally described in context of these embodiments, it should be understood that it is not intended to limit the scope of the invention to these particular embodiments. Figure 1 shows a sectional view of a seal in accordance with an embodiment of the invention. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION [006] The present invention is directed towards a seal for covering holes in a vehicle frame, whereby the seal is conformable to different shapes and sizes of the holes as per requirement. The seal is designed to cover the holes while leaving a flush finish. [007] Figure 1 shows a seal (100) in accordance with an embodiment of the invention. The seal is configurable to overlay a hole and area surrounding the hole of a vehicle frame, thereby covering the hole. The seal comprises a first overlay layer (110) and a second overlay layer (120). The second overlay layer has a top side and a bottom side. The top side is bonded with the first overlay layer and the bottom side adaptable/applied to the vehicle frame. Accordingly, the first overlay layer forms the outer layer on the vehicle frame and the second overlay layer is disposed between the first overlay layer and the vehicle frame. [008] In an embodiment, the first overlay layer is of glass fabric. The glass fabric is preferably knitted and comprises of a coating of poly tetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) or acrylic.
