A Sealing Pin Integrated Within A Screw Plug Of A High Pressure Fuel Pump

Abstract: A high pressure fuel pump 10 is described. The high pressure fuel pump 10 comprises a housing 12, and a governor 14 positioned within the housing 12. An opening 16 is defined at a top portion of the housing 12, the opening 16 adapted to receive lubrication oil. A screw plug 18 is inserted through the opening 16 and adapted to close the opening 16 by screwing the screw plug 18 within a threaded portion that is defined within the opening 16. A sealing pin 20 is inserted within a bore 22 that is defined within the screw plug 18, the sealing pin 20 adapted to close the bore 22 by screwing a plurality of external screw threads that are defined on a shank portion of the sealing pin 20 against a plurality of internal screw threads that are defined within the bore 22 of the screw plug 18.

Specification

1. A high pressure fuel pump (10), said high pressure fuel pump (10) comprising:
a housing (12), and a governor (14) positioned within said housing (12), said
governor (14) adapted to regulate a quantity of fuel delivered from said high
pressure fuel pump (10);
an opening (16) defined at a top portion of said housing (12), the opening (16)
adapted to receive lubrication oil to lubricate said governor (14) that is
positioned within said housing (12);
a screw plug (18) that is inserted through the opening (16) and adapted to close
the opening (16) by screwing said screw plug (18) within a threaded portion
that is defined within the opening (16); characterized in that
a sealing pin (20) that is inserted within a bore (22) that is defined within said
screw plug (18), said sealing pin (20) adapted to close the bore (22) by
screwing a plurality of external screw threads that are defined on a shank
portion of said sealing pin (20) against a plurality of internal screw threads that
are defined within the bore (22) of said screw plug (18).
2. The high pressure fuel pump (10) in accordance with Claim 1 wherein said
sealing pin (20) comprises a hexagon shaped bore (24) defined at a top portion
of said sealing pin (20), said sealing pin (20) adapted to be screwed within the
bore (22) that is defined within said screw plug (18) by inserting a hexagon
shaped allen key within the hexagon shaped bore (24) and rotating said sealing
pin (20) such that the plurality of external screw threads that are defined on
said sealing pin (20) mesh against the plurality of internal screw threads that

are defined within the bore (22) of said screw plug (18) to integrate said sealing pin (20) and said screw plug (18).

The high pressure fuel pump (10) in accordance with Claim 2 wherein said sealing pin (20) is adapted to be withdrawn from within the bore (22) that is defined within said screw plug (18) by inserting said hexagon shaped allen key within the hexagon shaped bore (24) and rotating said sealing pin (20) such that the plurality of external screw threads that are defined on said sealing pin (20) unscrew against the plurality of internal screw threads that are defined within the bore (22) of said screw plug (18) to facilitate adding lubrication oil to said governor (14) that is positioned within said housing (12).

A screw plug (18) for a high pressure fuel pump (10), said screw plug (18) inserted through an opening (16) defined at a top portion of a housing 12 of said high pressure fuel pump (10), said screw plug (18) adapted to close the opening (16) by screwing said screw plug (18) within a threaded portion that is defined within the opening (16); characterized in that
a sealing pin (20) that is inserted within a bore (22) that is defined within said screw plug (18), said sealing pin (20) adapted to close the bore (22) by screwing a plurality of external screw threads that are defined on a shank portion of said sealing pin (20) against a plurality of internal screw threads that are defined within the bore (22) of said screw plug (18).
5. The screw plug (18) for the high pressure fuel pump (10) in accordance with
Claim 4 wherein said sealing pin (20) comprises a hexagon shaped bore (24)
defined at a top portion of said sealing pin (20), said sealing pin (20) adapted
to be screwed within the bore (22) that is defined within said screw plug (18)
by inserting a hexagon shaped allen key within the hexagon shaped bore (24)

and rotating said sealing pin (20) such that the plurality of external screw threads that are defined on a shank portion of said sealing pin (20) mesh against the plurality of internal screw threads that are defined within the bore (22) of said screw plug (18) to integrate said sealing pin (20) and said screw plug (18).
6. The screw plug (18) for the high pressure fuel pump (10) in accordance with Claim 5 wherein said sealing pin (20) is adapted to be withdrawn from within the bore (22) that is defined within said screw plug (18) by inserting said hexagon shaped allen key within the hexagon shaped bore (24) and rotating said sealing pin (20) such that the plurality of external screw threads that are defined on a shank portion of said sealing pin (20) unscrew against the plurality of internal screw threads that are defined within the bore (22) of said screw plug (18) to facilitate adding lubrication oil to said governor (14) that is positioned within said housing (12).
