A Shim Plate Profile For A Fluid Deposition System

Abstract: ABSTRACT A SHIM PLATE PROFILE FOR A FLUID DEPOSITION SYSTEM Examples for a shim plate are described, wherein the shim plate may be disposed between an upper and a lower portion of a fluid deposition system onto a substrate. The shim plate comprises an inner edge slot positioned to face towards a discharge port of the fluid deposition system to guide a fluid composition to the substrate. In one example, the inner edge slot comprises of a longitudinal edge having a first end and a second end. The inner edge slot further comprises a first transverse edge along the first end and a second transverse edge along the second end. The first transverse edge and the second transverse edge have a concave profile concaved at a plane of the first transverse edge and the second transverse edge, respectively at a pre-specified radius of curvature.

1. A shim plate (100) to be disposed between an upper portion (302)
and a lower portion (304) of a fluid deposition system (300) onto a substrate,
5 the shim plate (100) comprises:
an inner edge slot (102), wherein the inner edge slot (102) is
positioned to face towards a discharge port of the fluid deposition
system (300) to guide a fluid composition to the substrate, the inner
edge slot comprises:
10 a longitudinal edge (104) having a first end (106) and a
second end (108);
a first transverse edge (110) along the first end (106)
and a second transverse edge (112) along the second end
(108), wherein the first transverse edge (110) and the second
15 transverse edge (112) have a concave profile (202), concaved
at a plane of the first transverse edge (110) and second
transverse edge (112), respectively, and wherein a width of a
circular arc of the first transverse edge (110) and the second
transverse edge (112) has a pre-specified radius of curvature.

2. The shim plate as claimed in claim 1, wherein the width of the circular
arc of the first transverse edge (110) and the second transverse edge (112)
is in a range of 1 millimeters to 2 millimeters.
25 3. The shim plate (100) as claimed in claim 2, wherein when the width
of the circular arc of the first transverse edge (110) and the second
transverse edge (112) is 1 millimeter, the pre-defined radius of curvature of
the concave profile (202) is 402 millimeters.
30 4. The shim plate (100) as claimed in claim 2, wherein when the width
of the circular arc of the first transverse edge (110) and the second

transverse edge (112) is 2 millimeters, the pre-defined radius of curvature
of the concave profile (202) is 202 millimeters.
5. The shim plate (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein thickness of the
5 shim plate (100) is in a range of 300 microns to 400 microns.
6. The shim plate (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the longitudinal
edge (104) has a length in the range of 140 millimeters to 200 millimeters.
10 7. A method for applying a fluid composition to a substrate, the method
comprises:
feeding the fluid composition at at least one inlet of an upper
portion (302) and a lower portion (304) of a fluid deposition system
(300);
15 guiding (504) the fluid composition flow between the upper
portion (302) and the lower portion (304) of the fluid deposition
system (300) based on the fluid composition being passed through a
shim plate (100) disposed between the upper portion (302) and the
lower portion (304) of fluid deposition system (300) onto a substrate,
20 the shim plate (100) comprises:
an inner edge slot, wherein the inner edge slot (102) is
positioned to face towards a discharge port of the fluid deposition
system (300) to guide a fluid composition to the substrate,
wherein the inner edge slot (102) comprises:
25 a longitudinal edge (104) having a first end (106) and a
second end (108);
a first transverse edge (110) along the first end (106)
and a second transverse edge (112) along the second end (108),
wherein the first transverse edge (110) and the second
30 transverse edge (112) have a concave profile (202), concaved
at a plane of the first transverse edge (110) and second

transverse edge (112), respectively, and wherein a width of a
circular arc of the first transverse edge (110) and the second
transverse edge (112) has a pre-specified radius of curvature;
and
5 dispensing (506) the fluid composition onto the substrate
from the fluid deposition system (300).
8. The method as claimed in claim 7, wherein the concave profile (202)
at the inner edge slot (102) is to enable a uniform rate of deposition
10 of the fluid composition on to the substrate by way of the at least one
inlet present at the lower portion of the fluid deposition system
configured for guiding the fluid composition flow between the upper
portion and the lower portion to the substate.
15 9. The method as claimed in claim 7, wherein the uniform rate of
deposition of the fluid composition on the substrate is based on an
increased surface area of the inner edge slot (102) of the shim (100)
corresponding to the concave profile (202) of the first transverse
edge (110) and the second transverse edge (112) of the inner edge
20 slot (102), respectively.
10.The method as claimed in claim 7, wherein the fluid composition
pertains to one of an anode and a cathode.
