Specification

FIELD OF INVENTION
The present invention relates to a single tool holder deployed for
edge preparation of tubes of various sizes. More particularly the invention relates
to an improved edge preparation tool holder which is capable of machining tubes
of different sizes without changing the tool holder.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
In any machining operation, the tool is the weakest link. It is so
designed that in case of any eventuality, the tool should break and the Machine
tool and Job to be protected. Having stated so the tool has to perform well given
the recommended cutting parameters for the cutting tool and the mechanical
properties of the job material to be machined. The total quality and productivity
of the job depends on the type of tooling used, rigidity of the machine tool, the
machining parameters and the job clamping. For machining, carbide inserts are
used. For edge preparation of tubes in the special purpose machine, the tooling
consists of three cartridges with carbide insert mounted on a tool holder which is
mounted with the machine. For edge preparation of each tube size the three
cartridges can be adjusted along the slot in the tool holder. The M6 screw which
clamps the cartridge with the tool holder often breaks. For edge preparation of
each tube size a separate tool holder is to be changed. Due to heavy weight of
the tool holder crane facility is required for mounting and removing the tool
holder. All the above factors affects the productivity of the machine and the
operator.

OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
It is therefore an object of the invention to propose a single tool
holder deployed for edge preparation of tubes of various sizes, which eliminates
frequent changing of tool holder for different sizes of tubes.
Another object of the invention is to propose a single tool holder
deployed for edge preparation of tubes which is capable of increasing the
productivity.

DETAILED DESCRIPTIONS OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE
INVENTION
According to the invention, the tool holder (1) is provided with
three slots (2, 3,4) at 120 degree apart. These slots accommodate the existing 3
tool blocks (2, 3, 4) which have provisions to accommodate existing boring,
chamfering and facing tools. The tool holder is mounted with the machine by
means of 2 X M12 hex socket headed screws and a locator. The purpose of the
locator is to mount the tool holder in a particular position. There is a hole in the
machine to accommodate the locator. The tools are held in the tool holder with
the help of M10 grub screws which eliminates the chance of breakage of screws.
The existing tool holders call for frequent change of the tool holder
for edge preparation of tubes of various sizes. More over for changing the tool
holder every time there is a need of a crane for removing the used tool holder as
well as for mounting a new one. This is a very time consuming process.
The invented single tool holder eliminates frequent changing of tool
holder thereby saves time and increase productivity. This single tool holder for
edge preparation of all sizes of tubes is used for a range of tube dia 31.8 cm to
dia 76.1 cm.
Three cartridges are disposed in the tool blocks which are capable
of being adjusted in the slots in the tool holder. The cartridges with carbide
insert are mounted on a tool holder being clamped with M10 grub screw instead
of M6 screw used earlier. Three carbide inserts (5, 6 and 7) are the facing tool,
boring tool and chamfering tool respectively.

WE CLAIM
1. A single tool holder deployed for edge preparation of tubes of various
sizes comprising;
a tool holder (1) having three slots (2, 3,4) at 120 degrees apart
Characterized in that,
three tool blocks are accommodated in the three slots with provision of
adjustability wherein the cartridges with carbide inserts firmly clamped in
the tool block are disposed as facing tool (5), boring tool (6) and
chamfering tool (7) for edge preparation of tubes of various sizes.
2. A single tool holder as claimed in claim 1, wherein the tools (5, 6, 7) are
held by M10 grub screw
3. A single tool holder as claimed in claim 1, wherein the holder is deployed
for tubes of sizes ranging from 31.8 cm to 76.1 cm dia.
